Chapter 511: Chapter 123 The Taste is Okay_1
So, the two girls turned around and left.
Lady Diyong saw this, grimaced with a bitter smile at Black and White Impermanence, and gave a cupped fist salute to bid farewell.
Black and White Impermanence followed suit with bitter smiles, "Please do not blame us, Lady. Our King Zhuanlun has been...um, not in the best of moods recently."
All three of them had been through similar experiences; they understood what the two girls were competing over. However, sometimes it was best to feign ignorance.
But they could also see that the quarrel between the two girls wasn’t born out of jealousy over romance, but a natural animosity that made them subconsciously compete for everything. Of course, they also believed, unless blind, that neither girl would ever fancy a rabbit...
The group went their separate ways, and just a few steps later, they heard Kui San shout, "Stop right there!"
Yishui and Li Zhenying turned around to see Kui San, who confidently said, "The rabbit told you to wait here for him."
The two women pursed their lips, flipped their hair, and strode away, leaving behind a baffled Kui San standing on the street, hugging a bronze dragon...
Qin Shou chased after the stranger, and before he knew it, he had run out of Fengdu City.
His mind was in turmoil, with no mood to ponder the thoughts of the young girls. Besides, he had seen his share of women over the years but never managed to truly understand any of them.
In Qin Shou’s own words, he wasn’t born with that skill, so he didn’t bother guessing or thinking. He was even less willing to resolve the inexplicable conflicts between the two women!
With that time, he would rather consider whether or not to go to the Nether River.
With these thoughts, he walked on, unaware of how long or which direction he was going.
When Qin Shou snapped back to reality, he was startled to find himself in a desolate wilderness covered in yellow soil. There were no villages ahead or shops behind, and stretching on tiptoes to look around, he could neither discern east from west nor identify left from right.
Just as Qin Shou looked up at the sky, utterly confused, a voice suddenly asked, "Who’s there?"
Qin Shou jumped, quickly scanning the surroundings, but saw no one!
Qin Shou called out, "Who’s there? Who?!"
"Who are you?" came the voice again, somewhat hoarse and eerily familiar.
This time Qin Shou heard it clearly; the voice was coming from underground! He was instantly overcome with a chilling sensation, but then he realized he was someone who could fight Earthly Immortal, so what was he afraid of? Moreover, this was the Netherworld, where ghosts were common, so he had nothing to fear.
Thus, Qin Shou challenged, "If you dare, why not come out?"
A resentful voice from underneath replied, "Could you stop stepping on my door, please?"
Qin Shou paused, looked down, and realized he was standing on top of a yellow stone with an iron ring attached, presumably to pull open the stone.
Embarrassed, Qin Shou stepped back, and the stone slab was pushed open, allowing an old woman to emerge.
Upon seeing her, Qin Shou exclaimed in astonishment, "Mengpo?!"
Mengpo rolled her eyes at Qin Shou and said, "So the Daynight Wandering God is too big to come when called just once."
Qin Shou’s face flushed with embarrassment, thinking to himself, "If I say I got lost and ended up here, I wonder if I’ll be turned into a rabbit-flavored Mengpo’s Soup."
Mengpo waved her hand, and the yellow soil rose up to form a clay chair. She said, "Take a seat. The smell down below is strong, not suitable for you to descend."
Qin Shou looked at the dark hole, and he had no intention of going down. Now he kind of understood why Mengpo didn’t let the Yama Kings of Ten Halls come in for a visit—it was too shabby...
Sitting properly, Qin Shou asked, "Is this where you live, ma’am?"
Mengpo nodded and said, "Yes... But this is the back door. Hey, why didn’t you come through the front door?"
Qin Shou was left speechless; he had stumbled upon the back door by chance, so what front door? He was thinking too much... If he knew this was Mengpo’s home, he wouldn’t have come.
So, Qin Shou asked, "Granny, didn’t you say you live in Muddy Manor? This is..."
Mengpo chuckled and said, "This indeed is my manor, just underground. Rabbit, do you know why I asked you to come here?"
Qin Shou shook his head; he was also pondering over this question.
Mengpo continued, "This old lady doesn’t have many skills. All I’ve learned in my life is in this bowl of Mengpo’s Soup. All beings in the world, be they Heavenly Gods, Immortals, or demon devils, once they climb Naihe Bridge and drink a bowl of Mengpo’s Soup, all connections with their past and present lives are severed."
Qin Shou thought: The old lady can’t be seeking revenge because I drank her Mengpo’s Soup without effect, smashing her reputation, and now she wants to vent her anger by killing, can she?
Thinking this way, Qin Shou found it quite reasonable; after all, if she killed him, the Mengpo’s Soup would still be the infallible elixir it was known to be.
Unaware of Qin Shou’s thoughts, Mengpo continued, "Just never expected, there are actually two people in the world who can drink my Mengpo’s Soup, yet forget nothing at all."
Qin Shou coughed and said with a forced laugh, "Granny, actually... about your soup... well... the soup, uhm..."
Qin Shou very much wanted to flatter Mengpo, but to his dismay, he realized he didn’t know what to say. After all, the soup’s main purpose was to erase memories, and if that didn’t work, there was no use in saying anything else.
Qin Shou hesitated for a long time, and whether intentionally or not, Mengpo didn’t pick up the conversation, just smilingly watching him, waiting for him to continue.
Qin Shou’s face turned beet red with the effort, and finally, he blurted out, "The soup tastes quite good. Give me another vat of it later."
After saying that, Qin Shou felt it was a bit too much.
To his surprise, Mengpo burst out laughing, and upon that wrinkled face blooming with a smile, Qin Shou was momentarily dazzled by an illusion of radiance! But after a closer look, all desire fizzled out, however, he was certain about one thing—Mengpo must have been a great beauty in her youth!
After her laughter, Mengpo asked, "Aren’t you curious about the two people I mentioned, who they are?"
Qin Shou thought, I haven’t even gotten over my awkwardness, how could I be in the mood to care who they are? But he still asked, "Who are they?"
Mengpo shook her head and said, "You really are... just humoring me."
Qin Shou gave a sheepish laugh and replied, "Not at all; I’m quite serious."
Mengpo gave Qin Shou a mischievous smile and said, "All right, then guess who the other person is?"
If any other woman asked Qin Shou this question, he would just play dumb and refuse to guess, as he knew he could never fathom a woman’s heart.
But seeing Mengpo’s smug smile, he instantly understood and said without hesitation, "It has to be you, Granny!"
Mengpo exclaimed in surprise, "How did you know?"
Without saying a word, Qin Shou took out the bronze cauldron, pretended to boil a pot of soup, and mimicking Mengpo, hunched over and approached the cauldron. After stirring and tasting a spoonful, he said, "The taste is not bad."
Then Qin Shou fell silent, grinning at Mengpo.
