Chapter 849: Chapter 845: Buying Cattle

As soon as they stepped closer, a few workers dressed in factory attire immediately came out of the building.

When these workers saw Chen Yang and Niu Ming, their expressions initially showed a hint of hostility, but when they noticed the vendor, the hostility faded away.

"Boss, why are you back so early today?" one worker asked the vendor with a smile.

"Oh, these two gentlemen are here to buy calves, so I came back a bit earlier," the vendor murmured in acknowledgment and then turned to Chen Yang with a smile, saying, "So, guys, would you prefer to go inside and inspect the cattle, or shall we bring them out for you to take a look?"

"Bring them out. It’s dim inside, not easy to get a clear view," Chen Yang said casually after glancing into the building.

"Alright, no problem." The vendor readily agreed and spoke a few words to his workers, instructing them to bring all the calves out.

"Got it, boss."

The workers nodded and immediately turned back inside to lead the calves out.

Meanwhile, the vendor stood outside the factory building with Chen Yang and Niu Ming, striking up a conversation.

"You two look quite young. Are you planning to open a farm like mine, or are you raising them to sell when they grow up?" It wasn’t clear whether the vendor deliberately asked this or was simply making small talk.

It didn’t really matter, though. It wasn’t as if raising cattle meant they couldn’t sell them later.

"Planning to open a beef-themed restaurant. We’re raising them to serve as ingredients for the restaurant," Chen Yang replied honestly.

Upon hearing that they planned to open a restaurant, the vendor looked slightly astonished.

After all, Chen Yang and Niu Ming appeared quite young, yet they were already buying cattle and starting a restaurant. In the eyes of ordinary folks, it wouldn’t be unfair to call them "promising young men."

"Haha, alright then, young and ambitious fellows!" the vendor chuckled heartily, choosing not to continue the conversation because, by then, the workers had led out most of the calves.

A total of twenty calves. Neither too many nor too few.

"Come over and take a look, you two. These calves are top-notch—none of that sickly stuff other sellers might try to pawn off. No headaches with my stock," he said eagerly, leading Chen Yang and Niu Ming toward the calves.

As he walked, he kept boasting about the quality of his calves.

But Chen Yang and Niu Ming had already locked their attention on the calves, hardly acknowledging the vendor’s words.

The calves were all yellow cattle.

They were a good fit for being raised into free-range mountain cattle, and their overall appearance showed promise—all seemed lively and bright-eyed.

It looked like the vendor wasn’t exaggerating; they indeed seemed to be good stock.

Still, buying cattle wasn’t the kind of transaction you could wrap up in a quick glance. You had to carefully examine them, or you might end up hauling back a sick cow and regret it later.

"Mind if we inspect them one by one?" Chen Yang asked as he finished surveying the calves, turning back to address the vendor.

"Of course, absolutely. You’re the buyer, feel free to inspect however you like," the vendor replied confidently, immediately giving his workers a signal.

The workers then began leading each calf over for Chen Yang to examine carefully before moving on to the next one.

In this manner, Chen Yang spent the better part of an hour meticulously inspecting all twenty calves.

Though he wasn’t a veterinarian, his medical expertise allowed him to discern quite a bit.

Indeed, the calves were all healthy, with no major issues.

"Hmm, good. These calves are all excellent," Chen Yang nodded approvingly.

The vendor’s face lit up with a smile when he saw Chen Yang’s satisfaction.

"What did I tell you, young man? When you do business with me, you’ve got nothing to worry about. These are all premium cattle—buy them, and you won’t have any trouble!" The vendor patted his chest confidently as he spoke.

Chen Yang nodded slightly, expressing his agreement.

Now that the calves checked out, Chen Yang didn’t drag things out. He promptly brought up the topic of pricing.

"Alright, the cattle are good, so let’s talk about the price. How much are you asking for each?"

Chen Yang got straight to the point, while the vendor’s smile shifted to a more thoughtful expression. After giving the matter a moment’s consideration, he replied, "Uh... let’s say three thousand yuan each. How’s that? If you’re okay with it, I’ll arrange for the truck right away and deliver them to your place."

The vendor sounded candid with his offer.

Chen Yang didn’t show any visible reaction to the price. It wasn’t particularly high, but it wasn’t exactly cheap either.

Besides, when did anyone ever accept the asking price in one shot? Even though Chen Yang had money, he still preferred to save where he could.

So, he countered with his own offer.

"Three thousand’s a bit steep—how about twenty-five hundred? I’ll take them off your hands right now," Chen Yang said as he shaved off five hundred yuan from the asking price.

The vendor couldn’t hold back a bitter smile upon hearing twenty-five hundred.

"Young man, you really know how to bargain. Cutting five hundred off the bat—I’m not even making much at three thousand!"

"Haha, boss, I know there’s definitely profit to be made. I’ve checked market prices outside—twenty-five hundred’s about right," Chen Yang chuckled as he stood firm, intent on knocking off five hundred.

But the vendor was a seasoned businessman, and he had his own tricks to counter Chen Yang’s bargaining tactics.

The two went back and forth for nearly half an hour before finally settling the deal, agreeing to a price discount of two hundred yuan per calf. In the end, they closed it at twenty-seven hundred yuan apiece.

"How many do you need? All twenty?" The vendor finally remembered they hadn’t even specified the quantity yet.

When Chen Yang heard this, he turned to look at Niu Ming, wanting to know his thoughts on the matter.

Niu Ming, who had been silent throughout, simply watching Chen Yang and the vendor negotiate, immediately understood that Chen Yang was asking for his input.

After considering for a moment, he replied, "We’ll take the twenty, but it’s a bit too few. Let’s add ten more if possible."

With ten thousand yuan on hand, he had calculated it all. Buying thirty calves seemed just about right, provided the vendor had them in stock.

The vendor’s face lit up with surprise and delight upon hearing they wanted thirty calves.

It was clear he hadn’t expected Chen Yang and Niu Ming to order so many.

"Definitely have them, no problem." The vendor nodded quickly, turning to instruct his workers to bring out ten more calves from the barn.

"Actually, boss, we’d prefer to choose them ourselves this time. It’ll give us a chance to inspect the barn’s conditions and maybe learn a thing or two," Chen Yang said suddenly, having thought of something.

The vendor had no objections to this, of course.

"Sure, why not? Let’s go in together," he agreed readily, leading them into the barn.

Inside the barn, Chen Yang and Niu Ming examined the surroundings.

They discovered there was a central walkway about one and a half meters wide, flanked on both sides by brick-built stalls of varying sizes.

Each stall housed an average of two cows, all fully grown and of similar size.

It wasn’t until they approached the end of the barn that Chen Yang finally saw the calves.

"So, you two, these are all the young calves on both sides. Feel free to pick whichever ones catch your eye—just let the workers know. In the meantime, I’ll head out and book the truck so I can have them delivered to you once you’re done," the vendor said as they reached their destination, getting ready to step outside for a phone call.

"Thanks for that," Chen Yang nodded, having no objections. The sooner the transport was sorted, the better—less hassle for them.

With Chen Yang’s approval, the vendor left to make the arrangements, while Chen Yang and Niu Ming began to carefully select calves from the barn.
