Chapter 840: Chapter 836 This is not a Weed
When Li Han finished sharing, it was no surprise to Chen Yang that Yang Ruoxi burst out laughing.
"Hahaha, Chen Yang, your classmates are way too much! Even more shallow than mine..."
Yang Ruoxi laughed heartily.
Her laugh made Chen Yang feel a little awkward, but it wasn’t a big deal. Even though it was a bit embarrassing, Yang Ruoxi wasn’t an outsider. He just laughed it off and moved on.
"I’m never going to those class reunions again; they’re really pointless." Chen Yang said helplessly as he shook his head, driving.
Yang Ruoxi’s laughter diminished slightly upon hearing this.
"Mm-hmm, I completely agree. If anyone invites me to a class reunion in the future, I’ll flat-out refuse." Yang Ruoxi said seriously.
She had her fair share of experiences with class reunions too.
Originally, she’d attended for the sake of reconnecting, but who would’ve thought it would all end up so unpleasant?
A gathering drenched in the stench of materialism was utterly meaningless, and in the end, it only left everyone feeling miserable. Going to such reunions was a waste.
Li Han noticed Yang Ruoxi’s expression souring and chimed in to console the two: "Alright, now that you both understand, don’t dwell on it anymore. Don’t let it ruin the mood of our gathering."
"Mm-hmm, Sis, you’re absolutely right. Besides, they weren’t even close friends; thinking about them serves no purpose." Yang Ruoxi nodded in agreement, then turned to Chen Yang and said, "Chen Yang, don’t let it bother you either. Don’t let it ruin our mood for the hotpot this afternoon!"
Chen Yang grinned at those words: "I haven’t even thought about it; just a bunch of irrelevant people—what’s there to get worked up about?"
Chen Yang brushed it off easily. Earlier, he’d only felt annoyed about the audacity of those people, nothing more.
Seeing Chen Yang laugh, Yang Ruoxi and Li Han’s moods instantly improved, and they stopped discussing class reunions altogether.
At this point, Chen Yang had driven them to the marketplace.
After finding a suitable parking spot and securing the car, he started walking around the market with the two sisters to shop for small vegetables, sides, and other essentials.
And of course, they couldn’t forget condiments. Condiments were absolutely essential—the soul of a hotpot.
Chen Yang led the two women with purpose, and in no time at all, they had bought almost everything.
"Looks like we’re about done. Let’s go. We can grab drinks and stuff from Uncle Niu’s shop." Chen Yang took stock of their haul and, after confirming they had everything, prepared to take the two women back to Liuhua Village.
"Sounds good, let’s go,"
The two women had no objections; they nodded and followed Chen Yang out of the market, back to the car.
Chen Yang loaded all their groceries into the trunk, climbed into the driver’s seat, and began the drive back to Liuhua Village.
On the way back, the two sisters called Wu Kexin to let her know about the hotpot that evening.
Since the sisters had come all the way to the village, Wu Kexin wasn’t about to refuse.
Though she agreed, she explained that she couldn’t come over until dinner time that evening because she still had work to finish.
Li Han and Yang Ruoxi didn’t have much to say about this.
"Alright then, we’ll just get the hotpot ready at Chen Yang’s place and wait for you,"
"Mm-hmm, thank you all for taking care of things."
Wu Kexin said with a laugh, then hung up the phone.
After the call ended, Chen Yang’s car entered Liuhua Village and arrived at the front of the clinic.
"We’re here. Let’s get out."
Chen Yang parked the car, unbuckled his seatbelt, and jumped out. He then went directly to the trunk, grabbed all the groceries, and carried them into the house.
The two women followed closely behind, entering the house together.
When they arrived home, it was still early, so Chen Yang didn’t immediately head to the kitchen to start preparing the ingredients.
Instead, he went to the backyard to call for Brother Eagle and hoped it’d go to the mountains and bring back a few wild rabbits.
After all, tonight’s dinner was for four people—they’d need at least five rabbits, especially with Wangcai in the mix.
"Brother Eagle, are you in the nest?"
Chen Yang stood in the backyard and shouted toward the bird’s nest.
Brother Eagle usually didn’t leave the house, but it wasn’t around today. Despite Chen Yang’s repeated calls, the nest remained silent.
"Looks like Brother Eagle isn’t home. Now what? We don’t have the main dish for tonight." Yang Ruoxi commented from behind Chen Yang, surprised.
Yang Ruoxi knew that Brother Eagle was impressive. On the way back, she’d heard that the main dish was in Brother Eagle’s capable claws. Now that Brother Eagle wasn’t visible, she couldn’t help but assume there’d be no rabbit meat tonight.
"It’s fine. The guy will probably be back soon. It’s still early, so it should have time to hunt later." Chen Yang replied.
Hearing this, Yang Ruoxi and Li Han’s worries dispersed immediately.
"That’s good. For a moment, I thought I’d come all this way for nothing and wouldn’t be able to eat properly." Yang Ruoxi giggled, flashing her teeth.
Noticing Brother Eagle wasn’t home and with nothing to do, Yang Ruoxi and Li Han turned back toward the house and pulled out two chairs to lie down in the backyard for a bit of sunbathing.
Chen Yang didn’t rest but instead grabbed a small mortar and pestle, opened the fence, and started loosening the soil around the herbs in the yard.
Over the past few days, the herb patch had been growing exceptionally well. The lush greenery aside, standing in the yard even brought a faint herbal fragrance that wafted through the air.
This made Chen Yang take these herbs more seriously, no longer treating them as ordinary plants.
"If these little guys share a patch with the treasured ginseng, maybe they’ll absorb a hint of its essence too."
This was the thought crossing Chen Yang’s mind, so naturally, he devoted even more care to this herb garden, regularly watering and loosening the soil like an old farmer.
Yang Ruoxi had already settled into her sunbathing spot but, noticing two new herbal patches in the yard, immediately hopped up to investigate, brimming with curiosity.
"Chen Yang, what are you up to? Why are you growing weeds in the yard? Are you planning to feed small animals?" Yang Ruoxi leaned over the fence, laughing and asking Chen Yang.
Chen Yang glanced back at her and sneered, "What weeds? These are highly valuable herbs, okay?"
"Valuable herbs? No way, they look like weeds to me." Yang Ruoxi squinted at them incredulously, her eyes filled with surprise.
Chen Yang couldn’t help but laugh at her bewildered expression.
"Alright, alright, it’s no use explaining; you wouldn’t understand. Just go lie back down; I’ll loosen the soil myself." Chen Yang waved her off with a chuckle, not wanting to continue the discussion.
But Yang Ruoxi grinned mischievously, getting more animated as she spoke.
"Chen Yang, if these are really valuable herbs, why would you plant them here? Aren’t you worried someone might steal them?" Yang Ruoxi leaned further over the fence, blinking her eyes innocently like a curious child.
"Nobody would dare come into my yard to steal things. And even if someone did, Brother Eagle would be here to teach them a lesson."
"But Brother Eagle isn’t always around, like today, for example. What if a thief sneaks in while you’re gone?" Yang Ruoxi retorted quickly.
Chen Yang felt a hint of exasperation at her words.
"Why are you worrying so much over this?" he couldn’t help thinking to himself.
"Even if Brother Eagle’s out, Wangcai is here. Don’t worry. My herb garden’s safe from thieves!" Chen Yang replied with certainty.
"Wangcai? Who’s Wangcai?"
Yang Ruoxi’s face lit up with curiosity upon hearing the unfamiliar name.
