Chapter 839: Chapter 835: The Ultimate Level of Shamelessness
Li Han called Yang Ruoxi and invited her to join the hotpot party at Chen Yang’s place.
Yang Ruoxi, being the easygoing person she was, agreed immediately without even thinking about it.
"Sure! Where are you guys now, sis? Should I come to your office now, or head straight to Liuhe Village?" Yang Ruoxi asked excitedly.
Li Han chuckled and replied, "Come to my office first. Chen Yang is here too. In a bit, we’ll shop for some ingredients together, then head over to Liuhe Village."
"Alright, I’ll be there soon."
After agreeing, Yang Ruoxi hung up the phone.
About twenty minutes later, Yang Ruoxi arrived.
"What’s with the sudden plan to eat hotpot together today? Is there something to celebrate?" Yang Ruoxi beamed as she walked in.
Chen Yang and Li Han turned to glance at her when they heard her voice.
"There’s no big event or anything. Can’t we have hotpot just for fun? It’s just a normal gathering, nothing more than that," Chen Yang explained.
"Psh, I don’t believe it’s just a casual gathering. Something must have happened." Yang Ruoxi plopped herself onto the sofa, clearly skeptical.
After all, they had just hung out a few days ago. To be meeting again so soon, how could it not be because of something?
That thought crossed her mind, and she suddenly noticed—why was Chen Yang here?
"By the way, Chen Yang, why are you here? Are you here to see my sister about something?" Yang Ruoxi asked curiously.
"Uh..." Chen Yang paused, momentarily at a loss for words, unsure how to respond to Yang Ruoxi.
If he said it was a classmate reunion, his cover would be blown, wouldn’t it? A barrage of follow-up questions would lead to her finding out and inevitably mocking him. So, Chen Yang started scrambling for an excuse.
Before he could say anything, Li Han jumped in with a response.
"Oh, he attended a classmate reunion at my hotel earlier. Since there wasn’t anything else going on today, I figured we could have some hotpot together," Li Han quickly answered both of Yang Ruoxi’s questions.
Yang Ruoxi nodded, understanding now.
"See? I knew it. There’s no such thing as gathering for no reason—it always means something happened." Yang Ruoxi gave a triumphant smile, as if her hunch was just proven right, and immediately followed up with more questions.
"So this classmate reunion—did anything interesting happen, Chen Yang?"
Yang Ruoxi stared at Chen Yang with bright, inquisitive eyes, as if certain that something amusing must’ve occurred during his reunion.
"Nothing... nothing happened. It was just a bunch of old classmates meeting up to chat, catching up on how everyone’s doing. That’s all—nothing else happened," Chen Yang hurriedly explained, trying desperately to stop Yang Ruoxi from suspecting anything.
Pffft.
As soon as Chen Yang finished his explanation, Li Han couldn’t help but snicker, even before Yang Ruoxi had a chance to reply.
Originally, Yang Ruoxi had believed Chen Yang. But upon seeing Li Han’s reaction, she immediately thought something wasn’t quite right.
"Sis, is Chen Yang lying? Did something funny happen, and he just doesn’t want to tell me because he’s scared I’ll make fun of him?" Yang Ruoxi turned toward Li Han with a questioning look.
Chen Yang instantly shot Li Han an imploring look, signaling her to drop the subject.
Li Han noticed Chen Yang’s desperate expression, smiled slightly, and decided to help him out.
"Oh, I wouldn’t know either—his classmate reunion is his business; I wasn’t there," Li Han said innocently with a smile.
Yang Ruoxi frowned slightly. "Then why did you laugh just now?"
"I just thought your conversation was amusing, that’s all," Li Han explained.
With that comment, Yang Ruoxi dropped her suspicions and chose not to question further.
"Alright, fine. So what are we doing next? Just sitting around in the office being bored?" Yang Ruoxi rested her face in her hands, looking bored.
"Of course not! Now that you’re here, let’s go buy some things. Might as well make good use of the time—browse around and see what we need," said Chen Yang as he stood up.
He didn’t want to sit in the office either; it was far too dull.
No point wasting such a good day indoors—it was better to go out and stroll around.
"Sounds good! Let’s go!" As soon as Yang Ruoxi heard they wouldn’t be idling, her energy visibly returned. She jumped up eagerly and grabbed Li Han by the arm, heading straight for the door.
Chen Yang led the two women downstairs to the hotel entrance, ready to fetch his van.
But as soon as they reached outside, he noticed some classmates who had been in the private room earlier still hadn’t left; they were loitering at the hotel entrance and chatting about something.
Chen Yang glanced over at them but didn’t think much of it—after all, they were just acquaintances who didn’t concern him.
Without a second thought, he walked past them with the women, got into the van, and pulled the door shut.
His van was parked right at the hotel entrance, in a pretty conspicuous spot. So, when he started the engine, it naturally drew attention from those standing nearby.
As soon as those classmates spotted Chen Yang driving, they immediately swarmed toward him.
"Oh hey, Chen Yang! Where are you heading off to? Remember me? I was your desk-mate back in the day. Didn’t I lend you money once?"
"Haha, Chen Yang! Surely you still know me, right? It’s me, Chun Jiao! We used to take turns being class monitors—we were super close back then!"
...
They crowded around the windows, each of them eagerly trying to strike a conversation with him.
Seeing their shameless grins, Chen Yang’s face soured.
He couldn’t believe it—were these people seriously shameless enough to come smiling at him after everything?
"Get lost! I don’t know any of you!"
Earlier, Chen Yang might’ve held back, but once they showed they didn’t care about boundaries, he felt no need to show any courtesy. He coldly told them off without hesitation.
The group was dumbfounded by his outburst and instinctively stepped back a few paces.
Ensuring they had backed off a safe distance, Chen Yang ignored them entirely, stepping on the gas and driving away from the hotel entrance.
He truly had never seen such shameless behavior; "thick-skinned" wouldn’t even begin to describe them.
Chen Yang drove for several minutes before Li Han and Yang Ruoxi, sitting in the back, finally processed what had happened.
"Chen Yang, were those people just now... your classmates? Why were you so harsh with them? Did something unpleasant happen?" Yang Ruoxi asked, stunned.
"..."
Chen Yang felt utterly defeated. He had originally been trying to avoid ridicule, but it seemed completely inevitable at this point.
"Yeah, they’re classmates. And yes, there were some disagreements," Chen Yang admitted with a nod.
"Huh? But didn’t you say everything went smoothly during the reunion? What actually happened? I feel like you’re hiding something from me," Yang Ruoxi genuinely felt there was more to the story.
Li Han watched Yang Ruoxi’s suspicion and Chen Yang’s frustrated expression from the side, secretly amused.
"..."
Chen Yang sighed again, speechless.
"Sis, I’m sure you know what’s going on, right? Just tell me already—what happened?" Yang Ruoxi’s curiosity peaked as she clung to Li Han’s arm, playfully begging her to spill the details.
Li Han was thrilled at the drama but remembered she had promised Chen Yang to keep quiet. She turned to him and said, "Chen Yang, should I tell her or not?"
Chen Yang gloomily stared out the window.
He knew there was no avoiding it, so he decided to let her satisfy Yang Ruoxi’s curiosity.
"Fine... go ahead and tell her."
"Hahaha, alright!" Li Han beamed, wasting no time in sharing the story with Yang Ruoxi, treating it as though it were an amusing joke.
