Chapter 146: Chapter 148: Setting Out Again
After the wine tasting event, the hosts and guests were all merry, the wild tiger’s eyes slightly glazed from drink, slinging an arm around the Monkey King, with none of the previous hostility that had led to a fierce fight.
Midway through the drinking, the leader of the monkeys suddenly clung to his gourd of wine, refusing to pour for anyone. Even after the Monkey King attempted to snatch it away and was beaten once more, it was of no use. Finally, it took the wild tiger’s chest-thumping pledge to procure even better Spirit Fruits for the leader before he, with tears in his eyes, handed over the wine gourd to the wild tiger.
The leader’s Monkey Wine was so enjoyed at the tasting event that only droplets remained at the bottom of the gourd. Drunkenly embracing the wine gourd, the leader collapsed into a slumber with tears streaking down, a pitiful sight.
For the first time, Purple Cloud shared a couple of drinks with Mu Can, neither using their powers to counteract the effect of the alcohol. A flush of red appeared on Purple Cloud’s cheeks.
Mu Can couldn’t help but be captivated by her.
At this moment, Purple Cloud’s hair was loosely tied up, her simple and elegant white clothes revealing a section of an arm as white and tender as jade, and the hint of a blush on her face, her every smile and frown seeming to capture Mu Can’s soul. She seemed as if she had stepped right out of a painting, unparalleled in beauty.
"Cloud Sister." Mu Can gazed dazedly at Purple Cloud, feeling that today’s Monkey Wine was even more fragrant than before, as if he had ascended to a higher plane, his body feeling lighter.
"Hmm?" Purple Cloud looked at Mu Can, puzzled, feeling a sense of restlessness warming her body.
Mu Can could only feel a fragrant scent mixed with the aroma of the wine hitting him, his eyes growing even more confused.
"What are you two doing?" Little Red, finding the two deeply gazing into each other’s eyes, yelled out and collapsed in a drunken stupor.
Today, Little Red was the biggest winner, Mu Can generously pouring bowl after bowl of Monkey Wine into its belly; Little Red couldn’t even stand steady, let alone fly.
Little Red tilted and fell from Purple Cloud’s shoulder to the ground with a thud, startling both Purple Cloud and Mu Can.
They instantly sobered up, their hearts thumping uncontrollably.
"It’s nothing." Mu Can quickly drained the remaining Monkey Wine from his cup and awkwardly said.
As soon as he finished, Mu Can wanted to slap himself hard, as what he truly wanted to say was "I like you," but instead, all that came out was "it’s nothing."
The next day, as the sun climbed high, everyone awoke from their drunkenness.
To his surprise, Mu Can found that his Cultivation had improved slightly; the Monkey Wine he had drunk the day before had turned into pure Spiritual Energy, strengthening his Cultivation.
The wonderful thing about Monkey Wine is that even though everyone was drunk to the point of passing out, they woke without feeling the slightest discomfort. Instead, they felt refreshed, as if they had just taken a cool bath on a hot summer’s day.
"Brother Tiger, Brother Tiger." The monkey leader awoke and nudged the wild tiger, who was sleeping like a dead pig next to him.
The day before, in high spirits, the two of them had reverted to their True Bodies and wrestled with each other.
Both sides suppressed their true strength and started to galavant and fight across the field, while a crowd of monkeys cheered them on enthusiastically, creating a fervent atmosphere.
"What’s the matter?" The impoverished tiger, nudged awake by the old Monkey King, rubbed his eyes, looking puzzlingly at the monkey leader.
The monkey leader picked up the wine gourd and shook it vigorously, producing a hollow sound. Clearly, there wasn’t much Monkey Wine left inside. While shaking the gourd, he looked at the impoverished tiger with a flattering gaze.
"I’m on it, you little monkey. You’re not nearly as good as your old man. Look at how anxious you get over just some wine," the impoverished tiger teased with a smile.
"Chatter chatter chatter!" The monkey leader couldn’t care less about the impoverished tiger’s teasing. His treasured Monkey Wine was nearly finished, even though the gourd was a specially made space container with a much larger interior than it appeared to be. Even so, it could hardly withstand an all-out celebration. This morning, when the monkey leader shook the gourd, he felt as if his heart was about to shatter.
"Don’t worry, I’ll take the lad out for a spin and collect some Spirit Fruit for you, but you promised me half of the Monkey Wine brew," the impoverished tiger yawned lazily as he spoke.
Mu Can had already woken up and was cultivating outside the cave. Now Mu Can was cultivating almost every second, preparing to unite the Three Realms and complete his mentor’s challenge.
"Let’s go. There’s no need for you all to send us off." The impoverished tiger walked out of the cave and called for Mu Can to leave with him, keeping his promise to help Mu Can find an exit, not allowing his enjoyment of last night’s wine to cause him to forget his commitment.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon." The impoverished tiger reassured the monkey leader, who seemed worried, then pulled the old Monkey King aside to give him instructions.
"Old monkey, this time I’ll go help your son find Spirit Fruit, and I’ll prepare an extra portion for you. When it’s time to brew the wine, you can show me your skills. How about that?" The impoverished tiger’s eyes lit up at the mention of Monkey Wine.
Originally, the old Monkey King had been dozing off listlessly, but as soon as he heard the impoverished tiger’s offer to prepare a portion of Spirit Fruit for him, he perked up. They hatched plans together while smiling cunningly, making the monkey leader so uneasy he felt chills all over, fearing that his unreliable old dad might concoct something that would backfire on him.
"Let’s go, where’s that woman?" The impoverished tiger called out to Mu Can to leave, wondering why he hadn’t seen the frighteningly abnormal woman from yesterday.
"She’s hiding." After finishing her drink yesterday, Purple Cloud had gone to sleep inside the Reincarnation Pearl, as she couldn’t sleep in the cave like the others.
Seeing that Mu Can didn’t seem inclined to talk more, the impoverished tiger didn’t press the issue.
"Little brother, this is too slow. I’ll transform and carry you," said the impoverished tiger as Mu Can was struggling to keep up with his Martial Venerate strength.
Seeing Mu Can gasping for breath, the impoverished tiger transformed, and a tiger as large as an elephant appeared in front of Mu Can.
With a gentle flick of his tail, the tiger motioned for Mu Can to mount, and Mu Can, without hesitation, climbed onto the tiger’s back.
The impoverished tiger moved with ultimate speed, giving Mu Can a glimpse of a Martial Venerate’s true power.
Soon, they arrived in front of a vast portal. Mu Can knew this was the teleportation door of the chambers.
Entering the door, they proceeded to the next chamber without any pause. The impoverished tiger maintained his velocity, swiftly passing through a chamber in three minutes. Any creatures that noticed them simply had no chance to react to the tiger’s incredible speed.
The experience of each unique chamber broadened Mu Can’s horizons and heightened his respect for the Great Power who created the Death Maze.
