Chapter 147: Chapter 149: Spirit Fruit Banquet
The reason why Poor Tiger could thrive in the Death Maze like a fish in water is quite simple; he never provokes creatures that are stronger than him, nor does he choose to linger in those dangerous secret chambers.
The secret chambers he frequents are those that either house relatively weaker entities or are home to hospitable species. Within these chamber spaces, the most common sight are various kinds of Spirit Fruits. After all, Poor Tiger himself is quite the foodie; otherwise, he would not be so familiar with the Death Maze in just a hundred years.
"Through this chamber, the next one produces Spiritual Fragrance Fruits. I’m quite familiar with it. Let’s rest there for a bit. The journey ahead will not be so easy." Despite carrying Mu Can, Poor Tiger did not slow down at all. Moreover, during the swift journey, Mu Can didn’t feel any jolting whatsoever, not even a breath of wind, which gave him a new level of respect for the terrifying power of a Martial Venerate.
"Alright, Brother Tiger, I’ll follow your lead." After spending some time together, Mu Can had come to trust Poor Tiger greatly. Poor Tiger seemed to be a herbivorous animal with strength but no schemes, making it unimaginable to Mu Can how he survived in the perilous Death Maze.
"Hehe, the taste of the Spiritual Fragrance Fruits there is really quite good." Poor Tiger licked his lips, looking back with relish.
In less than half a day, Poor Tiger carried Mu Can through no fewer than a dozen secret chambers, each hosting different species in varied environments. However, Poor Tiger did not take Mu Can to appreciate the different sceneries, crossing them quickly instead.
Pushing open the hidden teleportation gate tucked in the corner, Poor Tiger leapt through with Mu Can, entering the Treeman’s secret chamber.
The Treeman’s chamber seemed much larger than any of the chambers they had encountered before. A towering Mother Tree stood at the chamber’s center, with a vast expanse of massive trees filling the space. A breeze wafted by, rustling the leaves like green waves rising and falling, presenting an invigorating scene.
"Ooaoaoaoa." As soon as Poor Tiger passed through the teleportation gate, he began to howl loudly. The roar traveled far through the dense forest.
Mu Can, curious about Poor Tiger, suddenly heard a huge hooting sound in response, as if answering Poor Tiger. Massive figures hurried over from the distance—it turned out to be a number of Treemen.
This was Mu Can’s first encounter with the Treemen, a species nonexistent in the Mortal World. Huge trees stood erect on the ground, moving their roots like feet, stepping forward slowly. The leading Treeman was even larger and held a torch that radiated tremendous heat, seemingly not an ordinary torch.
"Hahaha, Luo Ding, it’s good to see you again." Poor Tiger laughed heartily at the sight of the Treeman, obviously in a very good mood to be reunited.
"I should have known it was you, little tiger. Did someone bully you outside?" Luo Ding asked with a resonant, echoing voice, shaking his head.
Poor Tiger leapt next to Luo Ding, completely unaffected by the torch in Luo Ding’s hand. He gently rubbed his big head against Luo Ding’s trunk, eyes revealing a special kind of affection.
"I just missed you guys a bit," Poor Tiger said somewhat bashfully.
"Oh, and this is my friend Mu Can. I’m taking him to Sea Corner Pavilion to leave this place. It’s a good opportunity for me to come back home and visit."
"Hello, little human, welcome to the Treeman Forest; I am Luo Ding, the Treeman chief." Upon hearing that Mu Can was Poor Tiger’s friend, Luo Ding greeted him, and a branch quickly grew out toward Mu Can.
"Hello, Luo Ding, I am Mu Can." Mu Can gently shook Luo Ding’s branch and returned the greeting softly.
"Luo Ding, big boss, do you still have any Spiritual Fragrance Fruits at home? I want to take some with me this time I return." Poor Tiger looked at Luo Ding with an eager face, an important reason for his return was to take some Spiritual Fragrance Fruits back for the monkeys to brew wine.
Luo Ding smiled honestly, "You little tiger, you just love eating fruits."
As everyone walked toward the towering giant tree in the middle of the secret chamber, chatting along the way, Mu Can learned some things about Poor Tiger.
Poor Tiger had gained Spiritual Wisdom and the first secret chamber space he entered in the Death Maze was the Tree People’s space. It was these kind-hearted beastmen who took him in, looking after him for a very long time, and Poor Tiger always considered this place his home.
This tribe of Tree People here is famously peace-loving, gentle and kind in nature. Although peace-loving, the Tree People possess powerful combat abilities, with their huge stature and formidable plant-based attacks being their forte. Those outsiders who enter the Death Maze would receive the Tree People’s goodwill; however, those evil Cultivators attempting to harm the Tree People would ultimately become nourishment for the forest.
Within the thousands of acres of the huge space in the secret chamber, there live more than a hundred Tree People of varying sizes, with the biggest tree in the center being revered by the Tree People as the Mother Tree. The Mother Tree, devoid of Spiritual Wisdom, can bear a special kind of fruit.
The Spiritual Fragrance Fruit Poor Tiger mentioned is a peculiar spirit fruit borne by the Mother Tree which nourishes the Tribe of Tree People, providing enough energy for the growth of the Tree People. As a vegetarian tiger, Poor Tiger’s absolute favorite are these Spiritual Fragrance Fruits that are filled with unprocessed Spiritual Energy.
"Send an order to prepare a Spirit Fruit Banquet to welcome the new friends."
It is a Tree People tradition, whenever they meet outsiders, to definitely treat them with kindness, and since these friends were brought by Poor Tiger, they must be welcomed even more grandly.
"You’re in for a treat." Poor Tiger looked at Mu Can mysteriously, and after saying this, no matter how Mu Can inquired, Poor Tiger remained tight-lipped.
"Whoa, keeping it so mysterious." Since Poor Tiger didn’t want to say anything, Mu Can did not ask any further.
On top of the canopy of the Mother Tree exist enormous platforms, where tree houses of the Tree People are set up. Tree People live above the Mother Tree on normal days, and they can rest at night by anchoring their roots into the Mother Tree.
Mu Can and Poor Tiger were in the Tree People’s reception hall waiting for the Spirit Fruit Banquet to start, chatting while eating dessert.
Poor Tiger put a piece of the neatly sliced cake into his mouth, it melted upon entry, swallowed it down, emitting a sound filled with satisfaction.
"This Loose Mud Cake is simply the most delicious cake in the world."
"Uh-huh, it’s really tasty." Mu Can swallowed the Loose Mud Cake in his mouth and said contentedly.
"Chirp chirp chirp chirp." Little Red was also let out by Mu Can, joining in eating the cake, chirping happily.
Mu Can was even more looking forward to the upcoming Spirit Fruit Banquet.
