Chapter 145: Chapter 147 Wine Tasting Conference
A group of people entered the cave amidst the cheers of the monkeys.
Little Red suddenly changed from her previous arrogant demeanor, her head hanging so low it almost reached between her legs, appearing very downhearted and seemingly scared of what her future held.
Mu Can found it amusing and didn’t bother interacting with the scheming Little Red.
"Kids, bring out the wine that I’ve treasured," the old Monkey King shouted as soon as he entered the cave.
This Monkey King was not only reckless in his actions but his voice also sounded indistinctly like a rough man.
Unexpectedly, as soon as the old Monkey King spoke, it turned quiet all around; the monkeys looked at each other, none of them moved or spoke, all excitement had vanished.
"Chitter chitter," the leader quickly ran to the Monkey King’s side, calling out anxiously.
Mu Can glanced at Little Red, who hurriedly translated for Mu Can with a look of grievances as if she was a troubled daughter-in-law.
"This monkey told the old Monkey King that they had stolen and drunk his treasured wine."
Mu Can shook his head—it seemed the monkey leader was not a reliable monkey either.
Sure enough, upon hearing the monkey leader’s words, the old Monkey King instantly started beating him without saying another word.
"Letting you steal my wine to drink."
"Did you think I was going to die soon, treating my wine like inheritance?"
"I’ll beat you to death, you wastrel."
As the old Monkey King cursed and beat him, it was lucky that the monkey leader had the strength of a peak Martial King; otherwise, even without the old Monkey King using Divine Ability, he would probably have been knocked unconscious.
Even so, the monkey leader’s face was swollen from being hit by the old Monkey King, his head puffing up like a pig’s.
The surrounding monkeys couldn’t bear to watch, and several of them quietly stepped back, hiding behind other monkeys—probably those who had stolen and drunk the wine with their leader.
"I say, you monkey, can you be reliable? Didn’t you say you were bringing me here to taste the wine?" Poor Tiger saw that the old Monkey King not only did not bring out the wine immediately but started beating his son, and immediately expressed his displeasure.
Poor Tiger came here to drink wine, not to watch him discipline his son.
"Enough, enough, my life’s treasured collection. This time, I’ll bring out your wine to treat our guests," having beaten enough, the old Monkey King tiredly stopped and glared at the monkey leader.
Seeing the monkey leader’s face swollen like a pig’s head, the old Monkey King’s anger had almost dissipated, but though his anger subsided, the old Monkey King was not going to forget that there was still a lethal tiger present.
If he couldn’t bring out wine satisfactory to Poor Tiger, even if the monkeys in the cave weren’t in mortal danger, a good number of them would probably end up being severely beaten.
"Chitter chitter," the monkey leader, who hadn’t made a sound while receiving the beating, suddenly cried out excitedly at the mention of his own wine.
"What are you crying for? Even if you drank it all, it’s not pitiful; it’s your fault for drinking all my wine," seeing the monkey leader getting agitated and crying out.
"Chitter chitter," the monkey leader wore a resentful expression.
The old Monkey King excused himself to Poor Tiger and Mu Can, then pulled the leader into a secret chamber in the cave.
"Brother Tiger, please be patient," Mu Can spotted the impatient look on Poor Tiger’s face and hurriedly comforted him.
Poor Tiger glanced at Purple Cloud and did not speak again.
Sounds of intense fighting and the pitiful cries of the monkey leader emanated from the secret chamber inside the cave.
Within a few minutes, the elderly Monkey King emerged from the secret chamber, looking refreshingly spirited, followed by a limping monkey leader.
"I’ve had a friendly negotiation with my ungrateful son, and he agreed to let us taste his treasured collection," the old monkey announced cheerfully, apparently very pleased by the beating he had just administered.
It seems that even the recklessly appearing old monkey knows what a friendly negotiation entails.
"Chitter chitter chitter." The monkey leader called out with a face full of grievance.
"He says he was compelled," Xiao Hong translated, though Mu Can could have guessed as much without her help.
The wine tasting event went ahead as desired, with everyone but the sullen monkey leader thoroughly enjoying themselves.
The monkeys brought out their self-made tables and chairs and served up the Spirit Fruit they usually stored, and thus began a lively and bustling wine party.
Mu Can looked around at the slightly dim cave, took out several fist-sized Luminous Pearls from his Storage Magical Treasure, and embedded them at the top of the cave, instantly illuminating the whole cave as if it were daylight.
"How’s the wine, Brother Tiger?" the elderly Monkey King asked, beaming with pride as he watched the penniless tiger tasting wine with closed eyes.
"Excellent wine, excellent wine," the penniless tiger, who initially thought little of Monkey Wine, opened his eyes and couldn’t stop praising it.
"This wine is soft at first sip, rich yet gentle and elegant aroma; though intense it doesn’t hurt the throat, a warm stream flows into the belly, and it even contains pure Spiritual Energy," remarked the penniless tiger, savouring the taste.
"Among all the wines I’ve had, this might not be the first, but it’s certainly not far off, truly a supreme brew," the penniless tiger praised lavishly.
Hearing this, Mu Can actually took a newfound interest in the big man; he hadn’t expected someone who seemed as bullish as the Monkey King to have such a deep appreciation for wine.
Though Mu Can was not particularly passionate about wine, placing almost all his energy into cultivation, famously known at the Immortal Ancient Academy as a cultivation fanatic, even he fell in love with this Monkey Wine after carefully tasting it.
"Brother Tiger truly understands wine; had this lad not drunk my treasures, I could have let you taste even better wine," hearing the penniless tiger’s lavish praise of his wine made the Monkey King’s fluffy face beam with happiness, praising his wine made him even happier than praising himself.
"Chitter chitter chitter, chitter chitter chitter," the monkey leader gulped down the wine in his cup in front of him, whining pitifully.
This wine party, every monkey got a cup of Monkey Wine, the scene was as festive as celebrating New Year’s—it was such a treatment that these monkeys only received during the New Year festivities.
"He says his wine isn’t as good as the Monkey King’s because of the raw materials."
The penniless tiger could understand the monkey leader, "You say the raw materials are the issue, then tell me, how can you brew better wine?"
"Chitter chitter chitter, chitter chitter chitter," the monkey leader cautiously glanced at the Monkey King as he spoke.
"You say you need a lot of Spirit Fruit? That’s easy to handle. I have many acquaintances in this Maze; getting various types of Spirit Fruit for you isn’t an issue. But after making the wine, could you share some with me?" the penniless tiger immediately took up the matter enthusiastically, confident in his ability to freely come and go in this Death Space and obtain the Spirit Fruit unavailable in this secret chamber.
"Chitter chitter chitter," hearing that the penniless tiger could procure the Spirit Fruit he couldn’t find, the monkey leader immediately called out excitedly.
"Rest assured, why would I cheat you? If you can use the Spirit Fruit I provide to make wine and ensure to share a portion with me annually, I’ve got your safety covered," the penniless tiger boldly declared.
It should be noted, the chambers in the Death Space are not absolutely safe, as outsiders often appear here. Lucky this time to meet Mu Can, otherwise encountering a powerful and evil Cultivator could mean that all monkeys are looted or even killed.
"Chitter chitter chitter," the monkey leader thumped his chest firmly and said.
During his tenure as leader, the wine he brewed apart from what was distributed to the monkeys, the rest was his retirement collection, and the monkey leader was not foolish. If he could get the Spirit Fruit from the penniless tiger, he would surely be able to brew the best Monkey Wine in their history.
"Listening to Brother Tiger, do you have a special understanding of the Death Maze?" After three rounds of drinks, Mu Can looked at the slightly tipsy penniless tiger and asked.
"Of course, I have spent countless years in this Death Maze, of course, I know this place like the back of my hand," the penniless tiger declared proudly.
Seeing the expression on the face of the penniless tiger, Mu Can knew his guess was right; leaving this Death Maze might really rely on this good-wine tiger.
