Overlord Tamer: All My Pet Monsters Have God Potential -
Chapter 199: Demons: Survival of Fittest
Chapter 199: Demons: Survival of Fittest
After announcing the competition to all Sovereign-rank Tamers, John went to visit the demons.
He had already revealed himself as John, so when they saw him, all of them had various reactions.
Mostly negative.
"Mr. Sirius..." Sovitra said as she arrived at the edge from the back, looking at John with a complicated expression.
"You are all alive. Great, right?" John smiled.
"But if I want to kill you..." John’s eyes turned icy as he showed them his hand, forming a gesture as if he was about to snap his finger. "I only need to do this, and you all will meet your end."
Everyone felt their heart turning cold as they saw not even a little bit of sympathy in his eyes.
"But I am going to give you a chance."
"What chance?" Sovitra asked.
John smiled. "You have two days to have a complete change of heart. You must think of your Pet Monsters as a family. No more sacrificing them. You all have more monsters thanks to your Beast Pouch ability, so all of those must also be considered your family. After two days, I will put every one of you through the Trial Gate. If you managed to pass through, it means you are a new leaf now. But if you can’t...you’re dead. This is no different from survival of the fittest in my world."
After saying that, John vanished.
Arriving at the Resource Island, John grabbed the fruits of Feralsteel.
Feralsteel was a new attribute he had found on the special dimensional island.
It was the strongest variant of Metal he had seen so far because its main characteristic is adaptation. It can adapt to any environment and transform.
Teleporting to the Garden of Meditation, John began eating fruits.
After just eating three, he entered the state of enlightenment, his conciousness entering the dimension of Feralsteel.
Soon, a day passed by, and everyone woke up from their enlightenment.
John was already at Metal Mastery at level 4, so after this enlightenment, he reached level 5 in Feralsteel.
The others also leveled up their respective mastery by one, except for Azelis, who didn’t level up in her mastery.
After reaching level 5, it was hard to increase their level via the fruits. A single enlightenment wasn’t enough.
John went outside to take a look at the state of the world.
The official calamity hadn’t started yet, so there wasn’t much impact.
The world was barely engulfed by frenzied monsters by 15%.
But once the calamity starts, the frenzied monsters would start affecting other monsters, turning them frenzied as well.
John went to take a look at the calamity region.
At the center was a massive crack with overflowing, crazed energy. It was spewing out frenzied monsters periodically, but not in large quantities.
A single Sovereign-rank frenzied monster every now and then.
But suddenly, John saw the crack turning fifty times bigger, turning into a massive 10-kilometer radius crack.
’What? Is it starting?’ John was startled.
In the next second, tens of frenzied Sovereign-rank monsters spewed out, almost a hundred of them, alongside tons of Emperor-rank and lower-ranked monsters.
John went back.
It would still take a day or two for the entire world to be engulfed by the Monsters.
The Sovereign-rank Tamers of the human domain were training hard. Some meditating to increase their mastery, some sparring to increase their combat assets’ proficiency.
The demons were uncertain, but many were already trying because of survival.
If they could live, they didn’t want to die.
...
Everyone had another enlightenment trip as they ate the fruits.
This time, John picked Voidspace fruits, wanting to increase his mastery to level 5 from level 4.
Naturally, he succeeded, increasing his combat power.
During these two days, he also gained 160 million Molding Essence.
But he had almost spent 200 million Molding Essence, so he still needed more before going to the Abyss Labyrinth.
In case something happened that required Molding Essence, and he didn’t have it, things could be troublesome.
So John needed at least two more days of gathering Molding Essence before entering the Abyss Labyrinth.
"Alright, it’s time to go outside and fight." John smiled. "I’ll go and gather the Sovereign-rank Tamers. The demons have enough time until we return from this training session. After that, I’ll put them through the Trial Gate."
"Sounds good." Azelis nodded.
...
A surge of wind blasted through the treetops as dozens of Sovereign-rank Tamers shot into the sky, leaving the sanctuary of the island behind. They moved as one—some riding beasts, some floating on light platforms, some tearing through the air with wings of raw magic.
John led them.
Within minutes, a distant shimmer revealed itself—no, many—tens, then hundreds of shadows slicing across the clouds.
"Brace," John said.
The next second, the storm hit.
A swarm of flying Sovereign-rank monsters descended from the upper skies like a living tidal wave. Wings beat like war drums. Sonic booms cracked the air as talons slashed down.
Roars filled the heavens.
There were a few thousand Sovereign-rank Monsters.
At first, they were fighting amongst themselves, but when the humans appeared, their instinctive orders activated.
Kill the Tamers.
Chaos erupted the moment the swarm turned its focus.
The sky rippled with shockwaves as hundreds of Sovereign-rank Tamers unleashed their power all at once. Magic flared, soul beasts roared, and the battlefield was instantly engulfed in a dome of war—a spherical theater of destruction stretching for kilometers.
It wasn’t elegant. It was raw, thunderous, and relentless.
Dozens of flying monsters dove from every angle, talons outstretched and mouths glowing with elemental venom. Tamers retaliated—great serpents of lava coiling through the sky, wide barrages of razor-like petals, and beasts wielding energy like hammers striking against wings of bone and steel.
The battlefield became layered.
John remained at the center, eyes cold, aura blazing. He didn’t want anyone killed, so he created a domain of Voidspace and Chronolight.
He also wanted to practice his third Geno Ability, which he had started training, and this was a perfect chance.
He focused on transporting monsters and tamers just when they were about to get struck, saving them sending them to Monster Paradise and positioning frenzied monsters to take their place.
Naturally, he took them out of Monster Paradise right after that, as they continued the battle.
It was intense. Bloody. And most importantly, life-threatening.
Everyone had to remain focused because of the sheer number of frenzied Monsters surrounding them in the large area.
If not for John, many would have fallen already.
The air shimmered around him as a wide field of distortion stabilized—repelling frenzied monsters who dared to charge directly. Any that pierced through were crushed midair by invisible waves of kinetic force or vaporized with light-warping beams.
John did not just use his soul technique and Geno Abilities to crush monsters. He used the physics of this world, the law of the world, to control space and delete monsters.
Because if he removed a chunk of space, the world would automatically begin to mend it.
So if he teleported a bunch of Monsters there, they would get deleted.
So whenever things got troublesome at a spot, he would teleport the tamers and pet monsters from there, and delete the space by combining Gravitalon and Voidspace, creating a big hole in the space by collapsing a point.
His maximum radius was 1 kilometer radius of collapse.
John had already surpassed the level of this world in terms of pure power despite still being at Sovereign-rank.
The frenzied monsters surged with unnatural coordination, their madness guided by something higher.
For every beast killed, another came screaming.
The huge battles and their ripples also attracted more and more Monsters.
The speed of killing could not keep up with the speed of incoming monsters.
It was too much.
Still, John tried his best to keep everyone alive while they fought by giving their all in this battle of unprecedented intensity.
But a bit over an hour was enough to mentally exhaust him and everyone else because of the intensity of the fight.
There was not even a moment of a break, and if they continued, John wasn’t confident of saving everyone.
It was time to retreat.
John made everyone disappear as they arrived back in Monster Paradise.
The frenzied monsters, having lost their targets, started fighting against one another.
Meanwhile, everyone went to rest in Monster Paradise.
John also went to sleep directly, deciding to make the demons go through the Trial Gate after waking up.
Five hours later, he woke up and teleported to the giant prison.
"Are you all ready?"
Waving his hand, John summoned the Trial Gate in front of the prison.
And after that, he expanded the size of the prison to include the trial gate inside.
The prison had effects of restricting their soul energy usage, but not outside.
He also modified the Trial Gate a bit.
Those who fail would be teleported to a spot in the wilderness where he had stationed 2000 Sovereign-rank Monsters, and he also added the function that would sever their soul contract with their Pet monsters, summoning them outside, both from their soul space and Beast Pocket.
He told the two thousand Sovereign-rank Monsters that if any demon appeared there, they would focus fire and obliterate them.
"Start walking."
As John ordered the demons, he began shrinking the prison.
Those who succeeded in passing the trial would appear on the Forge Island.
Sovitra was the first one to go.
She wanted to live.
When she entered, she disappeared and arrived in...Forge Island.
John saw that and smiled.
Other demons soon followed.
Tens of demons went through the gate every second, their fate in their own hands, or rather, their hearts.
John watched indifferently as the number of demons gradually lowered.
When the last of the demons vanished, he appeared on the Forge Island, looking at approximately three thousand demons.
"Congratulations. You are now part of John Wicked’s Kingdom. As for the majority of your fellow demons, they are dead. Their pet Monsters are freed."
Sovitra had a complicated expression, but the resolve deep in her eyes was firm.
They were about to have a new beginning, and they were going to embrace it.
