Chapter 198: Before Ascending

[ Let’s leave now. We will go to the upper world connected to this one first and start preparation. There should be some easy-to-trap Mythical-rank powerhouses with our powers. Not everyone is like John, who can resist Lust and Greed for that long. If we go early and get a Calamity-rank powerhouse under us, once John arrives in the upper world, we can deal with him."

"We can’t keep him alive as our slave anymore, I guess." Minera had a gloomy expression.

[ We can’t. But he will come to eliminate you, given the animosity that formed, so it’s better that you eliminate him first. We can also get his Cosmic Rune after killing him, though how much we can use it will depend on how much of its power I can forcefully cut and transfer into your rune before it is taken away by the God supporting him. ]

"Can’t you stop that god from taking away the rune?" Minera asked.

[ I cannot. Even if his god was weaker than mine, I cannot. Cosmic Rune is not attuned to me, but the one who created it, so that God can disperse the rune and take it, but I can still try to contain its power as much as possible and use it to enhance our rune. You might get some new exotic powers combined from that rune and our rune once that happens. ]

Minera’s eyes glinted. "That sounds good. Alright, let’s fucking go."

[Yes. So, focus on creating a Calamity-rank devil for possession. We can target a force that only has a single Calamity-rank powerhouse as the head. That way, the entire force consisting of however many Mythical-rank and Legendary-rank Tamers they have will be under us. We’ll make quick work of that, John Wicked.]

"Alright."

She exited from her Hell Paradise Realm and quickly left.

Meanwhile, John was collecting people all around the world.

In three hours, he had completely cleaned everyone and also reached the peak of Sovereign-rank in Soul Power.

...

"Alright, now we can leave this world anytime, but we don’t need to rush." John smiled.

"What’s the plan?" Yuna curiously asked.

"We get strong."

"I got the Talent Stones, so we use them. I have three pre-determined soul talents and five random soul talents."

Everyone used the Talent Stones by infusing a bit of their soul energy into them.

"Holy shit," Max exclaimed. "I got a great Soul Talent."

He quickly shared it with others.

[Obsidian Furnace]: When your attacks physically connect to the target, your physical and magic defense is increased by 5%, up to 50%. When at full stack, your physical attacks deal an additional 50% of aftershock-type damage of flame-attribute.

"That’s...pretty powerful."

"Yeah, it’s good."

"Requires build up of five strikes for full effect, but given Max’s combat style, this will be useful."

Max grinned. "Well, this made me decide what I want as my next Geno Ability from my Monster Geno Art. I am going to pick a defense-type ability. The tougher I am, the stronger I will become and last longer in battle."

"Good." John nodded and smiled. "I’ll share my soul talent next."

Waving his hand, John printed it in a makeshift screen using soul energy.

[Nature’s Soul Engine]: Whenever you use a soul technique, you recover 30% of the soul energy consumed. If you are in an especially rich area with spirit energy, you recover 50% of the soul energy consumed instead. Every time you recover soul energy via this talent, your next soul techniques get a random percentage of boost from 5% to 30% depending on the richness of spirit energy in the atmosphere.

"Holy. This is broken!" Max exclaimed.

"This is very powerful," Azelis muttered and wryly smiled. "Well, I wasn’t expecting anything weak anyway."

"True, it’s John Wicked’s talent." Yuna snickered. "Of course, gonna get a wicked soul talent."

"Right." Jibril chuckled. "Well, my turn next."

Jibril also shared her talent, her smile only increasing.

[Absolute Spirit Blessing]: When your health drops below 50%, a blessing is stored, which can be used any time to become impervious to all damage for five seconds and recover all of your soul energy. Can only activate once per day.]

"Holy shit..." Max exclaimed. "This is like ultimate protection-type Soul Talent."

"Yeah, this is crazy good in terms of self-defense," Yuna said with an envious smile.

"Congrats." Azelis smiled.

Jibril rubbed her nose with a cheeky smile.

"My turn now," Yuna said with a snort. "It’s perfect for me, to be honest."

[Blazing Overdrive]: When surrounded by 2 or more enemies within a 500-meter radius with attack intention aimed at you, your soul potency and soul recovery increase by 25%. Additionally, your fire-element attacks ignore 20% of the defense.

Yuna’s talent was also powerful.

Although it required the condition of having two or more enemies targeting her, it wasn’t hard. The thing was, she must keep this Soul Talent an absolute secret so as not to reveal the condition of using it.

But as long as it was activated, with Yuna’s combat style, she could just one-shot anyone of the same rank, except for someone like John.

Because Yuna had Fire Mastery, or more specifically, Ruinblaze Mastery, which was the variant she learned via the custom fruits to match the attribute with her Monster Geno Art.

Ruinblaze was a pure destructive flame-type variant, and on its own, it shredded defenses of all types easily as one of its characteristics. Ruinblaze’s attack automatically increases to 150% when it strikes defenses or barriers, so pairing that with the 20% defense ignore meant it was over for the enemy.

"Well, my turn now, I guess." Azelis smiled.

She waved her hand, sharing her new Soul Talent.

[Mirrorborne Bloodspike]: Whenever the user takes fatal damage or gets fatally poisoned, they can sacrifice one limb or organ to reflect the deathblow entirely and heal the rest of the wounds, twice per day.

"This is not worse than Jibril’s Soul Talent in terms of protection." Max blinked.

"Sister Azelis, you already have a Pet Monster with powerful healing. Regenerating a minor organ or a limb should be a piece of cake." Yuna grinned.

"And it’s twice per day, compared to my once per day." Jibril chuckled. "I think it’s better than mine in that sense."

"Well, we all gained superb soul talents." John grinned. "Next, we will tame new monsters for us, and then I will maximize their potential and evolve them using the Monster Mutation Evolab’s functions."

"But we need to increase our forces." John’s eyes glinted as he waved his hand, showing a screen where the Sovereign-rank Tamers were resting or meditating on the mountains at the edge of the 500-kilometer island.

Those mountains were specifically for them.

"Since I am going to build my own organization, my kingdom, we need some good subordinates." John smiled.

"That’s true," Azelis said as she nodded thoughtfully. "We can hold a competition for them."

"But before that, they will go outside to fight in this frenzied world." John grinned. "Naturally, we will also go outside."

"Once the calamity sweeps over the world, I want to see the scenery where only monsters remain in the world," John said. "We can also train in the monster-ridden world. There will be no lack of Monsters thanks to the calamity."

Yuna blinked. "Then it will also be a bloodbath among monsters due to territorial disputes and other things. With so many monsters, they will also need food, so it will be an intense survival of the fittest period for the monsters."

"I’ll go and tell them about the competition." John smiled. "If I tell them beforehand, they will work harder when we go out. Once they hear the reward, they’ll go bonkers."

"What are you planning to reward them with?" Jibril curiously asked.

"New Monster Geno Arts of high-rank, and custom attribute fruits to increase the mastery of new attributes they will gain from Monster Geno Arts." John grinned. "I want everyone in my main force to be strong, so I’ll cultivate them well. I’ll also give them the benefit of Monster Mutation Evolab."

"Bro, if we rise with your benefits, we will be strongest in the higher-ranked world fast," Max said while grinning. "Oh yeah, what position am I getting?"

He asked with shining eyes.

"What position do you want?" John asked, amused.

"Well...." Max rubbed his chin and thought for a couple of seconds before grinning. "Executive or Commander, someone who is below you four, I guess."

"You’ll have to earn that position," John said with a chuckle. "If you are weaker than people under you, it won’t look good."

Max’s eyes fiercely lit up as he clenched his fist. "I am working hard, and I won’t be behind. I may have lost against Yuna, but I won’t lose against anyone else."

"I also need to work hard in my combat..." Jibril muttered, her resolve silent but firm.

"Well, you all grab the fruits first and enter twenty-four-hour enlightenment. I’ll go and inform those Tamers about the competition before doing the same."

"It will still take a few days for the calamity to sweep over the entire world."
