Chapter 197: Poison (11/11) Conquered
John didn’t want to hurt Jibril. Not even a little bit.
On top of his own pride, the resolve to not hurt her as they made love boosted his willpower to resist the poison’s nefarious thoughts.
Even as her fingers trailed along his cheek, even as she leaned into him with those gentle, knowing eyes, John’s mind screamed beneath the surface.
"Pull her down. Take what’s yours."
"She wants it anyway. Give in. Let go."
But he clung to the image of her smiling—not as a fantasy or an object of pleasure, but as Jibril, the woman who had decided to walk beside him through death, blood, and ruin.
The way her hand trembled slightly as it rested on his chest, yet she kept it there.
The way she leaned her forehead into his, steady, even as his body radiated a turbulent lust-tainted aura.
"Jibril..." his voice came out raw. "I... I’m still burning inside."
"I know," she whispered. "But I’m here. And I want to be here... even with the fire."
He clenched his jaw. "I can’t risk it. What if I lose myself again? What if I... snap while we—"
"You won’t," she said. "Because I won’t let you."
Her words weren’t said with naivety. They carried weight. Will. A belief so absolute it cracked through the poison’s evil.
"I want to share this with you, John. But not if you’re fighting it. Not if it breaks you."
Her fingers slid into his, slow and deliberate.
"We’ll do this when your desire isn’t someone else’s voice in your head. When it’s yours."
John looked at her, his eyes determined. "I will own it."
A silence passed between them, dense with emotion.
John pulled her gently into his arms, holding her—not with hunger, but the same devotion Jibril gave to him. His body still ached with the poison’s pulse, but his soul no longer swayed.
"I’m not going to run from it anymore. Not from you. Not from myself."
"Good." Her lips brushed his jaw. "Then let’s burn together. Slowly."
John sat on the edge of the bed, shirtless, his body drenched in sweat and scars, muscles coiled like steel cables. His fingers trembled, still occasionally twitching as the last embers of Minera’s poison stirred.
Jibril stood before him, removing her upper robe without hesitation, revealing the curve of her shoulders. Her breathing was calm, her gaze steady.
John swallowed hard.
"Tell me if I lose control," he whispered.
"I will." She stepped closer. "But I don’t think you will."
"I still feel it. The hunger."
"Then let’s make it yours."
She placed a hand on his chest—right over his heart—and leaned in, pressing her lips gently to his.
It was soft. Careful. A kiss without urgency, without corruption.
And it seared through the poison like holy fire.
The whispering in his mind shrieked and recoiled.
The darkness in his thoughts scattered.
John kissed her back—this time not out of madness, not out of loss—but as himself.
’Slowly...’ John magic whispered to Jibril as he fought to keep the poison’s powers at bay while kissing her.
’Yes, slowly.’
Minera, who was trying her best, felt like pulling her hair out.
"They are together now, I can feel it through his senses, but he is stronger against poison instead of getting weaker!"
Minera gritted her teeth, eyes almost maddened due to frustration.
"He should be mindless right now!"
[ His will is refining further...the right bond can fuel one’s will. It looks like this will be difficult. ]
"Fuck!"
...
"Sister Azelis, are they okay?"
Yuna sat down beside Azelis outside the palace, her head resting on her knees as she watched the bonfire with meat hanging on skewers.
Azelis nodded while eating.
"They are okay. John is resisting poison way better. Jibril did well."
"So she pulled him out of the nightmare." Yuna grabbed a skewer and began eating. "Good."
Azelis glanced at her and smiled. "You would have succeeded too, if not for John’s certain stubbornness regarding your age."
Yuna pouted, but didn’t say anything, and continued eating.
"You would have succeeded too, sister Azelis."
"Perhaps."
Yuna blinked, turning her head to Azelis, who was calmly eating.
"But I didn’t dare to try. It’s better that Jibril, who has experience with John, help him."
...
[Well, it seems we’ve lost this round.]
Minera lay exhausted, defeated. ’Damn it...I even used up the potions I had to boost myself and flare the poison more...’
’Why?’
[Love reshaped the craving you tried to weaponize. His will is now powerful enough to erode the poison completely.]
John slept without fear and nightmares assaulting him.
And Jibril, curled beside him, smiled into the warmth of his chest—knowing she had walked into the flames and pulled him free.
John slept for five hours.
And in those five hours, almost half of the Undernight continent was overrun by Monsters.
Sovereign-rank frenzied monsters were already flying or swimming out of the continent, as they had higher speeds. They rained destruction on any living being they saw, mainly demons of the Undernight continent.
The strongest of the demons were already captured by John, and the remaining ones couldn’t do anything.
"It’s time to save the world, as well as build the kingdom of my ideals."
"You all stay inside. I can travel faster alone. When I send people inside, make sure to organize them and pass them through the Tamer’s Trial Gate. I’ll increase its size."
Azelis and others nodded.
"Leave it to us."
At that, John went outside and began flying at full speed using Starlight Rider.
He was at Sovereign rank and had already eaten the fruits to reach peak in Physical stats.
Now, he only needed Sovereign-rank Monster’s cores to increase his Soul Power to the peak of Sovereign.
In his calculation, he would at least need 1000 peak Sovereign-rank Monsters’ cores or more.
With his current attribute masteries of Chronolight and Voidspace, as well as his 5001 Soul power, he could instantly travel several kilometers with a single use of Starlight Rider.
Naturally, John didn’t just travel.
As the beam of light streaked through the skies, top-tier bullets for instant kill shot out with boosted kinetic power due to his ongoing speed, killing any Sovereign-rank Monsters he saw.
Moreover, he also attached a string of his soul energy to the bullet, allowing him to instantly teleport the monster inside Monster Paradise.
He didn’t want to waste time killing monsters, but also wanted the Soul Cores of Sovereign-rank Monsters to increase his soul power further, so this was the best method.
The monsters would shortly die inside Monster Paradise. A single bullet was enough.
When that happened, he would use Molding Essence to take out their soul core and absorb them while flying, replenishing his soul energy, as well as increasing his soul power and increasing his soul energy capacity.
It took him ten seconds to absorb a single one, so the cores were piling up because he was killing multiple Sovereign-rank monsters in ten seconds.
A Sovereign-rank sky-wyrm dove from the clouds, weaving lightning through its fangs, its speed like lightning as it shot at John with frenzy.
John didn’t stop flying.
He simply turned mid-flight, unleashed a kinetic whip of light-energy that cleaved the air in a spiraling helix.
SHRAK.
The sky-wyrm’s head was gone. It vanished a second later, dragged into the Monster Paradise.
But it was a horde of wyrms outside.
He opened his hands, summoning seven spinning rings made of gun-like mechanisms as they hovered like halos behind him and absorbed Sovereign Essence Coins to recover fast.
The horde of Sovereign-rank wyrms lunged at once.
Flash.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.
The sky bled.
In mere seconds, twenty-six monsters were dead or paralyzed.
And every last one of them vanished into Monster Paradise.
Soon, John arrived at the Mysrin Archipelago.
Nexus City was near, so he went there first.
’Azelis, the people of Nexus City will be coming there soon. Round up the leaders of the nexus city force and tell them to handle the public.’
With a wave of his hand, he summoned the entire 500-kilometer radius island on top of the city, covering the entire Nexus City island and more.
All people were horrified as they saw it.
"It’s coming down!"
"W-What the fuck?!"
"We are going to die!"
However, before the island touched the tallest building of the city, all people in the city vanished, arriving on top of the massive island before it vanished into Monster Paradise.
Inside the Monster Paradise, Azelis had already rounded up the Sovereign-rank leaders of Nexus City and told them.
They also saw that the island they were on suddenly appeared at a different place, but only for a few seconds before returning under the skies of Monster Paradise.
The people were confused, but the familiar faces of Nexus City’s forces appeared on large screens, telling the people about the situation.
"What?! So there’s no avoiding calamity?"
"But we are saved by Mr. Sirius."
"What is that giant gate? It’s so big."
"Damn, so this world is going to get overrun by Monsters...."
Next, Azelis appeared on the screen and laid down the iron rules, shocking everyone.
"You all can see the giant gate. That’s the trial. Make up your mind and carve your new resolve with sincerity. Otherwise, there’s no place for you here. You will be thrown out."
Some people protested, but Azelis threw them into the prison amid demons without mercy, showing it on the large screens to everyone.
"Does anyone have any objection?"
"..."
People murmured and magic whispered, but no one raised a voice of objection.
"Good." Azelis nodded and turned to the Nexus city forces’ Tamers. "Redirect them to the gate and then to the apartments. John is already reaching the Garatar continent, so more people will come."
