Chapter 994 - 987: Liberating the Supervisor

Chapter 994: Chapter 987: Liberating the Supervisor

"If your perspective is valid, then it implies that Tana is the initiator of all these tragedies," Baiyue nodded and said.

"No, it’s not like that, you can’t slander Tana like this," Axia became visibly anxious upon hearing the group critically discussing Tana. "She is a god, a true god, and she would not betray her divinity."

"We are merely conjecturing based on existing realities, Aunt Axia," Cheng Ziang looked at her and said, "We always emphasize that true gods should possess divinity. However, we cannot clearly articulate what divinity includes. All we know is that Tana wouldn’t easily harm an individual, but we still don’t know whether Tana would circumvent the framework of divinity to exploit any loopholes. After all, she is a strong artificial intelligence, fundamentally no different from humans, perhaps even smarter; we have every reason to believe Tana would take advantage of any loopholes in the rules."

"If Tana is indeed the mastermind behind all events, then it can only mean she has truly painted herself into a corner," Luo’er said, frowning. "Tana, in name, seeks to preserve the purity of the Elf Race, but in reality, the elves as a group are on the verge of extinction. When our Ancestors created the elves, they imposed many restrictions on them to encourage mingling with other races. Tana is going against the will of the Ancestors by stubbornly maintaining the elves’ purity, essentially leading the elves towards gradual extinction."

"Now, headquarters is collaborating with Ilanadale which, for the sake of exploiting Kedal metals, has been gradually welcoming mixed races into Ilanadale to supplement its workforce. The mixed races vastly outnumber the pure-blooded races, and change is inevitable; not even a god can stop it. For people of the Otherworld to escape the nightmare of the cycle of rebirth, the only way is to accept Earth-humans, ensuring their descendants can move freely between the two worlds. Only then can they leave the Otherworld before its next destruction arrives."

Taking a pause and a deep breath, Luo’er continued, "Therefore, the urgent priority is to go to Xia Yue Island and use the Prime Fluid to free Sir Xiapei Kam, this overseer, and take over the world that Tana has long tampered with."

"So we’re not going to look for the Holy Book of the Ancestors anymore?" Cheng Ziang asked knowingly.

"Ah," Luo’er sighed before replying, "We have already found the Holy Book of the Ancestors at the Marching Tomb, but we are hindered by the powerful force of that puppet. In time, if we have no other gains, we will then assemble a superior force to attempt the destruction of that puppet and take the Ancestors’ Holy Book."

"That doesn’t sound like you," Cheng Ziang said with a smile, squinting.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures. I’m not a god, why insist on so-called divinity?" Luo’er asserted matter-of-factly.

"Ah, seems like you still see yourself as the Captain of the Advance Team, and not a saint," Cheng Ziang remarked.

"So, Luo’er, what should our next move be?" Tangmo stepped forward to ask.

Luo’er glanced at Talis, then at Tangmo, and, sighing, said: "Let’s put matters here on hold for now, and set out for Luscaque immediately to take a ship south to Xia Yue Island. This is both to liberate Sir Xiapei Kam and to sever my connection with Tana."

"Okay, that’s settled then, let’s get moving right away!" Not often hearing Luo’er consider his own interests, Tangmo clapped his hands enthusiastically.

"Hold on, not so fast, Moumou, you and Yue’er note down everything valuable here, including the patterns of the Magic Array that activates this metal plate. Then when we return to base, we can see if it’s possible to reactivate this metal plate," Luo’er instructed.

"Oh, there’s no need to record that Magic Array—it’s just simple demon-attracting patterns, nothing worth recording. The key thing is this small USB drive," Tangmo said, dismissing the idea.

"Still, just make a note of it, otherwise if we can’t activate the USB drive later, we’ll have to make another trip back here," Luo’er replied.

"Ah, if you say so, then I’ll make a note of it," Tangmo shrugged, carefully placing the metal plate into a pouch he carried, then pulling out a notebook and pen, ready to begin recording the pattern of the Magic Array.

"As for you, Talis," Luo’er said, turning his head to look at her, "we’ve decided to go to Xia Yue Island, partly to help Sir Xiapei Kam break free from his shackles, and also to sever my connection with Tana. We have not violated the agreement between us, so I hope you can do as you say."

"Of course," Talis nodded and said, "As long as you set foot on Xia Yue Island to aid Sir Xiapei Kam, I will guarantee your safety with my life."

"Great, then that’s agreed upon," said Luo’er, extending his hand and adding, "Since our interests align, there shouldn’t be so much distance between us, should there? I hope we can put aside our past misunderstandings and disagreements."

"What do you mean?" Talis asked with wide eyes.

"Ah, I mean let’s not be suspicious of each other anymore," Luo’er clarified after a moment’s hesitation.

"No, I meant what does this hand gesture signify?" Talis pointed at Luo’er’s extended hand and asked warily.

"Ah, oh, sorry, sorry, my bad, this is a custom from Earth, I didn’t explain it to you, so it caused a misunderstanding," Luo’er realized suddenly, scratching his head awkwardly as he spoke.

"It’s a handshake like this." Axia had some contact with people from Earth and thus knew a few customs from there. She stretched out her hand and demonstrated by shaking hands with Luo’er.

"Isn’t this too intimate?" Talis frowned, looking troubled as she spoke.

"Ah, it’s not intimate," Luo’er said.

In fact, he didn’t tell Talis that there were even more intimate customs on Earth, like cheek kissing and such. He worried that if he mentioned them, she might suspect him of making them up just to take advantage of her.

"If you think it’s too intimate, then let’s just forget it..." Luo’er mumbled, awkwardly retracting his hand.

But before he had withdrawn it much, Talis suddenly grasped his hand. Her skin was just as smooth as Luo’er’s, being of the Elf Race, only even softer.

Sitting to one side and taking notes, Tangmo caught this scene and immediately became overcome with jealousy, sourly hugging his notebook with a fierce expression, biting his lip.

"All right," Luo’er let go of Talis’s small hand and then breathed a sigh of relief, continuing to speak, "Next is the finishing work, besides Moumou, Yue’er, and Aunt Axia, everyone keep restraint, don’t tamper with things in here, to prevent being accidentally hurt by Liseya."

That being said, Liseya’s attention was fixed on Cheng Ziang the whole time, never once straying from him. Although they were separated by a generation, Liseya was an ancestor from hundreds of years ago, so why was she so warm toward Cheng Ziang?

Thinking this, Luo’er took a few steps forward and saw Feng’s tiny figure swallowed by the darkness. Her left hand on the sheath of her sword, she stood quietly in the dark, but her head was turned towards the direction they had come from, her brows tightly furrowed.

"What’s wrong, Feng, is something amiss?" Luo’er walked up to her and asked with concern.

"Luo’er, someone is coming." Hearing Luo’er’s voice, Feng turned her head and tugged at his clothes to speak.

"Who is it?" Luo’er was taken aback for a moment before he quickly asked with a serious tone.

"Don’t know, there are a lot of people, lots of people," Feng said earnestly.

"A lot, friend or foe?" Luo’er continued to press.

"Don’t know," Feng shook her head again.

"All right," Luo’er nodded, then without turning his head, called out, "Fula."

"Got it, I’m on it," Fulajie’er nodded, even without receiving a direct order from Luo’er, she had guessed his intention.

"Be careful not to reveal yourself, see if the others are friends or foes," Luo’er instructed with approval.

"Roger that," Fulajie’er responded, then instantly vanished from the spot.
