Chapter 988 - 981: Strange Metal Plate

Chapter 988: Chapter 981: Strange Metal Plate

"This is..." Axia’s eyes widened as she tentatively reached out and pinched the small risen gold metal plate. With a gentle tug, she pulled the metal plate directly out from the box, and then it lay in the palm of her hand.

The metal plate was about ten centimeters long and only a few centimeters wide. Holding it in her hand, she could clearly feel the coldness of the metal.

She examined the metal plate carefully. It seemed to be engraved with intricate patterns, with the widths and depths of the engravings only one hundredth or even one thousandth of a millimeter. If this were man-made, the person who engraved this metal plate must have been a highly skilled craftsman.

After a more detailed examination, Axia realized that this metal plate was not so simple. The engravings were not just decorative patterns but bona fide rune traces.

She scrutinized the metal plate from top to bottom. The plate appeared to be forged seamlessly, with no other cracks visible apart from the complex engravings.

"Could it be that this is a record of runes, but why would it be engraved on such a metal plate?" Axia murmured to herself, looking puzzled as she stared at the plate.

"Aunt Axia, what are you doing, mumbling to yourself?" At this moment, Tangmo’s voice came from behind Axia, startling her.

Axia stood up from the ground and, holding the metal plate, said, "I found something strange. Come take a look; it seems to be engraved with runes."

"Runes? Let me see!" As soon as he heard the word runes, Tangmo immediately became excited and reached out for the metal plate.

Frowning, she observed it seriously, but soon her face showed a look of disappointment. Shaking her head, she said, "These are just ordinary runes for guiding magic. They won’t have any effect."

"Are you sure?" Axia asked, not quite ready to give up.

"Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of these runes, and I recognized them at a glance," Tangmo said, unable to resist bringing the metal plate closer again before frowning and remarking, "However, the precision with which it has been engraved doesn’t seem like it could be carved by a person; it resembles the effect of a laser cutter?"

"Laser cutter?" The term from Earth was obviously unfamiliar to Axia.

"Sister Moumou, may I have a look?" At this time, Baiyue suddenly reached out and asked.

"Here you go." Tangmo handed the metal plate to Baiyue, instinctively giving her a glance, but noticing a hint of anticipation in her eyes.

"What is it, have you noticed something?" Tangmo asked curiously.

Baiyue glanced at her and gently shook her head before looking down to examine the metal plate closely. She took out several gold coins of different sizes from her pocket and began comparing them to the metal plate.

After fidgeting for a few minutes, Baiyue looked up, her previously furrowed brow now smoothed out. She held up the metal plate to Tangmo and said, "This is not just a simple metal plate. The proportions of the plate roughly follow 1:4:9; this is not a coincidence."

"What do you mean?" Hearing her words, Axia stepped forward, her eyes wide with amazement.

"1:4:9, the squares of three consecutive natural numbers. The specifications of this metal plate follow strict proportions, approximately one centimeter thick, four centimeters wide, and nine centimeters long. Clearly, whoever manufactured this plate was no ordinary person; at the very least, they had some mathematical foundations," Baiyue explained.

"So you’re saying..." Tangmo hesitantly asked.

"Yeah, this thing likely has a unique purpose, not just that of a simple metal plate," Baiyue nodded and replied.

"Let me see," Tangmo said as she snatched the metal plate from Baiyue’s hand, closely inspecting it while her mind raced with thoughts of possible slots on the god-making instrument.

But unfortunately, no matter how much she pondered, she couldn’t figure out exactly where this small metal plate would fit or what its purpose could be.

Just as frustration was setting in, suddenly, an idea flashed through her mind, and understanding dawned upon her. She started clapping her hands excitedly, "I’ve got it, I know where this thing should be used!"

"You’ve figured it out?" At her cheer, both Axia and Baiyue looked at her curiously.

"Right, follow me!" Tangmo said, excitedly leading the two deeper into the room. The end of the room was quite spacious, practically empty of furnishings.

Guided by the light of the Magic Crystal flashlight, the three of them saw the pattern of the Magic Array etched onto the floor. Tangmo walked straight to the center of the Magic Array and then crouched down to rub a small groove at the heart of it. After examining the small metal plate, she carefully inserted it into the slot at the center of the Magic Array.

"Indeed, it fits perfectly, even the patterns align. This thing is meant to be placed here," Tangmo remarked joyfully.

"But what’s the use of this Magic Array?" Baiyue asked, looking at the Magic Array with some concern.

"It’s not a Magic Array Trap; it won’t produce magical effects when activated. It will channel the magic from the atmosphere and the Magic Crystal to the center of the Magic Array. At first, I didn’t understand the purpose of gathering magic in the center, but now it seems it’s probably for powering this little thing," Tangmo said, pointing at the metal plate with excitement.

"So what effect will the metal plate produce once it’s activated by magic?" Baiyue asked, frowning.

"It won’t produce any effects, the metal plate just has simple runes for channeling magic," replied Tangmo.

"Then it’s strange," Baiyue said, "the Magic Array channels magic to its center, and the central metal plate continues to gather magic. What’s the point of all this collected magic?"

"Hmm, I also find it odd. Could there be some secret inside this metal plate?" Tangmo nodded, falling into thought as well.

"Why not just activate the Magic Array to find out?" Axia suggested matter-of-factly.

"Well, that’s possible, but I’m worried about the danger, because none of us knows what kind of magical effects this metal plate might produce. It would be terrible if it turned out to be a Magic Bomb," Tangmo said with concern.

"Then let’s ask everyone’s opinion and take protective measures before turning it on," Baiyue suggested.

"Yes, I think that’s the only way," Tangmo nodded in agreement with Baiyue’s suggestion.

So the three of them went over to Luo’er and Cheng Ziang to briefly share their discovery. After hearing their explanation, both Luo’er and Cheng Ziang felt it was worth a try; if they could find something interesting, it would be a significant gain.

Luo’er then had everyone prepare their defenses and gathered around the Magic Array, ready to observe the effects of its activation.

Tangmo squatted on the periphery of the Magic Array, embedding the Magic Crystal she carried into the External Magic Array of the Main Magic Array. This was a very common magic operation, specially designed to supply energy to the Main Magic Array.

"Fulajie’er, if there’s any danger, immediately activate the Magic Defense Shield to block the magic surge. Remember, it’s a Magic Defense Shield!" After the Magic Crystal was set, Tangmo stood up from the ground and cautioned Fulajie’er.

"I know, you don’t need to remind me specifically!" Fulajie’er said sullenly.

"Make sure to protect Luo’er well; he can’t afford any more erosion from magic power," Tangmo continued.

"Oh!" Upon hearing it concerned Luo’er, Fulajie’er immediately took on a serious tone and obediently responded.

"Alright, don’t worry about me, my magical aptitude is high, this level of magic surge can’t trouble me," Tangmo confidently said, pulling out her Magic Wand from her pocket.

"You better not push yourself too hard, bad woman," Fulajie’er said with a face full of worry.

"I’m your sister, not a bad woman!" Tangmo rolled her eyes, ignoring Fulajie’er’s words and began to chant Spells.

With her incantation, the magic in the air also began to gather. Of course, the cave was narrow, and the magic power inside was limited, so not all of it could be used to supply the energy needed to activate the Magic Array. Therefore, the Magic Array mainly relied on the Magic Crystal embedded within.

Tangmo cleared her mind of any distractions, then shook her Magic Wand to awaken the Magic Array with the Magic Crystal. The highly concentrated magic visible to the naked eye inside the crystal burst forth like floodwaters released from a gate, surging along the Array’s patterns and leaving a faint glow on its trail.
