Chapter 985: Chapter 978: The God-Making Module
"Alright, alright, mastery of special skills. Fula has her own strengths, and Moumou has hers. There’s no need to argue about such things. Let’s all remain calm," Luo’er said, feeling helpless but trying to smooth things over.
"Fine, I won’t stoop to your level," Tangmo said with a smile, and then he put on a serious face and said, "Hurry up and take me to see if it’s really a Magic Array Trap or not."
"Why don’t you go by yourself? Why do you order me around!" Fulajie’er said indignantly.
"Luo’er did say we should all get along," Tangmo threatened smoothly.
"You," Fulajie’er deflated immediately at the mention of Luo’er. She puffed out her cheeks in dissatisfaction and then said sullenly, "Follow me..."
The group continued to walk for roughly ten meters before they saw a thick stone door. It had two heavy stone panels, one of which was still standing in the doorway, while the other had already fallen to the ground.
By that time, Cheng Ziang had entered the room, allowing the group to see the light coming from inside. They carefully stepped over the fallen door panel and moved inside.
The ground was full of uneven puddles. The microorganisms breeding in the water made the bottom exceptionally slippery, a misstep could result in landing in the water with a splash. With heavy snow falling outside the tomb, no one wanted their clothes and shoes to be soaked.
After passing the door panel, everyone finally arrived in the carved-out room. The room was rectangular in shape; although called a small room, its area was actually quite large. It was about five to six meters wide and over ten meters long.
The room was filled with a pile of complicated devices, very similar to those they had encountered in the Ancient States. These devices were noticeably well-preserved; despite the humidity in the room and their age, they had no microbial growth or moss on them, as if they had just been placed there yesterday.
Luo’er closely observed the devices; if he remembered correctly, they used these very devices to create Fulajie’er’s body when they were in the Ancient States. Seeing these devices again, he suddenly felt a notion and couldn’t help but turn to Baiyue, who was documenting everything, and ask, "If we use these devices, can we turn Fula into a real god?"
"No," Baiyue said, shaking her head firmly without even turning around.
"Why not?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"We don’t have the modules," Baiyue answered.
"Modules?"
"Whether it’s making a god’s body or granting a god immortality, we need modules to assemble everything, much like the way steel-bar reinforced concrete needs pre-set molds," Baiyue explained, putting down her notebook and looking at Luo’er.
"Oh," Luo’er nodded, then asked curiously, "Can we make the modules here on the spot?"
"No," Baiyue shook her head decisively and said, "At least not now, we don’t have the computational power to calculate the Runes. Sister Moumou is impressive, but her abilities are still a bit immature; Sister Nightingale was mainly in charge of that work initially."
"I see..." Luo’er nodded, slightly disappointed.
"But don’t be disheartened. Now that we know there are devices here for creating gods, we could always come back if we get the chance, right?" Baiyue said consolingly.
"Luo’er, I don’t want to become a real god; I think I’m fine as I am now. If I became a real god, I afraid I wouldn’t be able to control myself and might do things against my better judgment just to be with you," Fulajie’er flew back to Luo’er’s side and said seriously.
"Great power breeds endless desire, and unbridled power will undermine everything, including the power itself," Baiyue continued recording with her head down, speaking calmly.
"Making a fuss over nothing, when you won’t even learn," Tangmo muttered to himself and returned to Luo’er’s side.
"So, it’s not a trap?" Luo’er asked.
"No," Tangmo shook his head and continued, "It’s just a simple Magic Array that gathers magical power by absorbing the energy from the atmosphere and the Magic Crystals, and focuses it on something in the center of the array."
"What is it focusing on?" Luo’er asked.
"I don’t know either; the spot is vacant," Tangmo shook her head.
Meanwhile, under Liseya’s guidance, Cheng Ziang carefully removed a square object from the device, resembling a mobile phone, and pondered over it in his hands. An odd sensation flowed from the palm of his hand to the depths of his heart. He looked up to find Liseya gazing at him, her eyes filled with tenderness.
Noticing the object in Cheng Ziang’s hands, Tangmo walked over and said excitedly, "Oh, this is the little thing used to store magical power, so this means it’s Liseya’s life gate?"
"Eh, is the life gate like this? I remember Fula’s life gate seemed to be a crystal," Cheng Ziang turned his head and asked.
"You mean this," Luo’er said, pulling out the pendant from his chest, then added, "Sister Nightingale modified this thing, she extracted the crystal separately, in fact, the crystal is the actual vessel for the soul."
"So this is Liseya, the life gate of my ancestor?" Cheng Ziang lifted his head again to look at Liseya and felt a sudden, inexplicable wave of emotion.
She trusted him so much that she was willing to hand over her life gate to him. The regret was that there was nothing he could do, for Liseya’s physical body had already perished. Awaiting her was either an endless guardianship or the relief of death, with no chance for resurrection.
While Cheng Ziang was moved, Tangmo’s attention was focused on a row of slots on the device. She noticed that most slots on the device were empty, except for something inserted into the first one.
"Ziang, pull that thing out for me to see," Tangmo said, motioning to the slot but not daring to do it herself.
"This one? Will anything happen to my ancestor if I pull it out?" Cheng Ziang pointed at the slot, asking with a worried expression.
"Don’t worry, the device isn’t operating right now, it should be fine to take it out. If I’m not mistaken..."
Before Tangmo could finish her sentence, Cheng Ziang had already removed the object from the slot. As Tangmo had predicted, it was a rectangular slab engraved with complex runes.
"No doubt, it’s a module!" Tangmo nodded affirmatively.
"Module?" Luo’er inquired.
"Fula’s body is made up of modules," Baiyue explained softly, noticing Luo’er’s confusion.
"There is only one module on this device, no others. If I’m not mistaken, this should be the head module. Liseya didn’t insert any other body modules, so it resulted in just forming a head, which is why it looks like this," Tangmo surmised while extending her hand towards Cheng Ziang, "Ziang, could I take a look at it?"
"Is it okay?" Cheng Ziang hesitated for a moment, then looked up at Liseya for her response.
Liseya continued to watch Cheng Ziang quietly while she nodded slightly. It seemed that she was willing to fulfil any request he had.
Tangmo took the module and examined it with Baiyue. She confidently stated, "The engraving of the runes is raw and naive, not like that of a seasoned Inscription Master. If I’m not mistaken, it must have been Liseya herself who inscribed them. It’s just unclear why she only carved the head before hastily undergoing the transformation, resulting in her current form."
"Was it the same way that Fula became what she is now?" Luo’er stated, his gaze shifting to Fulajie’er.
"Yes, that’s correct. However, her sister had prepared many modules, so her limbs aren’t missing. It’s just that due to the insufficient magical power of the Magic Crystal at that time, she could only create such a small body," Tangmo said, not lifting her head.
"Ah," Luo’er slapped his forehead with annoyance, then shook his head, "If only I had known, I wouldn’t have blown up that warehouse."
"It’s okay, I also like having such a small body," Fulajie’er comforted.
"What’s this?" Just then, Tangmo noticed another tube-like object still attached to the device and asked, curious.
At the sight of the tubular object, the usually silent Talis nearly stopped breathing.
