Chapter 984: Chapter 977: New Gods and Old Gods
Luo’er cooperated and extended his hand for Fulajie’er to lead him, leaving Tangmo feeling utterly gloomy, silently following behind.
After leaving the coffin platform, the group headed towards the cave in the pit wall across from the path they had taken earlier. It was only after passing through the area with the coffins that they were able to enter the cave.
Unlike the coffin platform, the cave lacked the illumination of Magic Crystal Lamps, so everyone had to turn on their Magic Crystal flashlights.
It was clear that this place was different from the burial chambers; the ground was uneven, not smoothed or chiseled flat. Everyone carefully made their way through the cave, occasionally stepping into puddles that went over their ankles. Fortunately, their waterproof boots kept their feet from getting wet inside.
While the distance wasn’t far, the journey was strenuous for them, unlike Fulajie’er who could fly and completely disregard these ground obstacles.
Baiyue and Luo’er walked ahead to scout for the rest of the group. Of course, Cheng Ziang was at the very front, but with Liseya guiding him, there was no concern that he would trip.
As they progressed, Baiyue also closely observed the cave surroundings. When her shoulder-mounted flashlight swept across a corner, it suddenly reflected a dazzling light. The flash instantly caught her attention, and she broke away from the group, heading toward the glowing corner.
"What’s wrong?" Luo’er asked with concern, noticing her action.
"Magic Crystal!" Baiyue crouched down, touching the smooth and flat crystal exposed on the stone wall, and looked back at Luo’er.
"Eh, there are Magic Crystals here too?" Hearing about Magic Crystals, Tangmo was even more excited than Luo’er and hurried over to Baiyue’s side, crouching and asking.
"It’s a vein," Baiyue said, touching the crystal on the stone wall, then looking around before telling Tangmo, "If there is a Magic Crystal Vein, whoever found it would not have overlooked these Crystal Mines. There should be mining tunnels for the Magic Crystal Mines nearby."
"So, do the Aud people like to build tombs in Magic Crystal Mines?" Luo’er said, scratching his head.
"What does it mean to have a Magic Crystal Mine inside a tomb?" Tangmo asked, looking at her.
"It means that this tomb has enough Magic Crystals to power a Magic Array Trap," Baiyue answered.
"But there doesn’t seem to be any sign of Magic Array Traps nearby," Tangmo said with a shrug.
"Maybe the Magic Crystal Mines had already been depleted before the construction of the tomb," Baiyue analyzed.
"Yeah, that’s possible," Tangmo nodded and then looked back at Cheng Ziang’s silhouette, saying with concern, "So, in that case, could there be Magic Array Traps in that room?"
"There probably aren’t," Baiyue said, "If there were, Liseya wouldn’t be leading Ziang forward without any worries. If she knew there was danger, she definitely wouldn’t let her descendant walk into it."
"True," Tangmo nodded in agreement.
"But what I’m curious about is whether the Magic Crystals mined here were used for the Creating God facilities. If that’s the case, logically, there would be many gods in this world," Baiyue said, frowning.
"That’s hard to say, maybe they didn’t know how to create gods. Don’t forget, the people of the Ancient States studied for more than thirty years and only barely succeeded," Tangmo said.
"That’s not right," Baiyue shook her head, then continued, "The reason why the people of the Ancient States took so long was entirely because of the fallout between Fula and Nightingale’s father and the people of the Ancient States. If their father had cooperated with the people of the Ancient States back then, they might have created a god long ago. To this day, it seems there is only Fula, who has transformed from a person into a Demigod; there are no true gods made from people."
"What are you trying to say?" Tangmo seemed to sense there was more to her words.
"How did the Judgement Legion learn about the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan, even obtaining detailed blueprints?" Baiyue asked, furrowing her brows.
"You mean..." Tangmo started but then held back.
"The Church of Light worships the Goddess of Light, and if we follow our assumption, then the Goddess of Light is very likely a man-made intelligent entity similar to Tana. So, can we speculate that it was the Goddess of Light herself who directed the Church to act against the Ancient States, solely to..." Baiyue said, looking towards Tangmo.
"Old gods recoil from new gods? Interesting," Tangmo nodded slightly.
"Or maybe we can hypothesize this," Baiyue extended a finger and said, "What they recoil from are merely gods who were once human, meaning gods without divinity!"
"That makes sense." Tangmo nodded repeatedly, deeply agreeing with Baiyue’s speculation.
"Hey, are you two coming or not? If you’re not, I’m leaving with Luo’er!" At that moment, the two heard Fulajie’er’s clamor, and saw her sitting on Luo’er’s shoulder, looking at them with impatience.
"What’s the hurry? Can’t you see we’ve made a new discovery?" Tangmo rolled his eyes and, pulling Baiyue with him, stood up from the ground.
"What discovery?" Luo’er asked curiously as the two rejoined the group.
"Well, some intriguing thoughts derived from the magic crystals," Tangmo nodded as he spoke.
"Let’s hear them," Luo’er said, showing interest in their topic.
"We’ll talk as we walk," said Tangmo, who then stealthily gestured for Baiyue to grab one of Luo’er’s arms while she snuck around to hold onto the other.
"Are you two arresting a prisoner or what..." Noticing their actions, Luo’er asked with a smile tinged with helplessness.
"Let’s go, let’s go, we can talk as we walk," Tangmo said with a triumphant smile, urging Luo’er to move.
The group continued to move forward through the cave and, as they walked, Luo’er listened to their speculations, finding them increasingly intriguing and his expression growing more serious by the minute.
"So you mean to say, in the entire world now, there’s only Fula who has become a god from being human, and furthermore, Fula isn’t a complete god but only a demigod. If she becomes a true god, she could very likely face the resistance of the old gods?" Luo’er put forth his own view.
"I think so," Tangmo nodded and said, "Looking at that mission to the Ancient States with today’s perspective, indeed there are many unreasonable aspects and quite a few coincidences. So, I believe that even if we couldn’t prevent that person from the Ancient States from becoming a true god back then, he wouldn’t have been able to do whatever he wanted, because the old gods would have restricted him. And this old god might be Tana, or it might be the Goddess of Light."
"It feels like this world is more and more like a heavenly network," Luo’er couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh, "When we first came to this world, we were all staunch atheists, but now we’re willing to believe in the existence of gods and even spend day and night with them. This subtle feeling, I really don’t know how to describe it properly."
"But why is this world specifically ruled by gods with divinity, after all, who created them, and who defined the rules of divinity?" Baiyue asked, puzzled.
"Ancestors!" Luo’er blurted out the word unexpectedly.
"Ha," hearing Luo’er’s remark, Baiyue revealed an extremely rare smile, then shook her head and said, "So it’s, when in doubt, rely on the ancestors?"
"I always have this premonition that we are gradually getting closer to the true essence of this world, about the origin of the gods, and the origin of this world," Tangmo mused.
"It looks like to open the Otherworld Gate and understand the truth of this world is what’s most important, huh?" Luo’er said.
"Hey, we’ve reached the front. Be careful, there’s a magic array inside the room; make sure not to touch it!" Just as they were reflecting, Fulajie’er, who was scouting ahead, suddenly flew back and warned them with a gloomy face.
"Is it a magic array trap? Just look at the pattern and you will understand. Don’t speak so vaguely," Tangmo said.
"I haven’t studied magic; how would I understand a magic array?" Fulajie’er pouted, speaking in a huff.
"Want to learn? I know how," Tangmo said, in a taunting manner.
"You..." Fulajie’er was so irritated that she was nearly in tears and turned to Luo’er with a look of despair, "Look at her, Luo’er."
