Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Flower Allergy
Kelsie’s brows knitted into a small frown.
She parted her lips to say something, but stopped when a call appeared at the top of her screen.
Of course. The only reason Jerry would give her 23 missed calls was when it concerned Laura even when it had nothing to do with her.
She quickly dismissed Jerry to the back of her mind, recalling she had something to discuss with Jade.
"Prof. Callahan, can I have lunch with you this afternoon? I have something to ask you."
"Of course. I’ll be done with my surgeries before 2pm." Jade agreed almost immediately.
"I’ll meet you at your hotel by that time." Kelsie hummed and ended the call.
Then she answered Jerry’s.
"Don’t you know how to use your phone? I’ve been calling you since last night!" The man’s angry voice blared out of her speakers as soon as she answered.
Not in the mood to argue with him, Kelsie sighed, "You have my shares already. What more do you want from me?"
Jerry Sutton smacked his lips impatiently.
"You talk like I stole it from you. What we did was a fair trade. I gave you your mother’s things and you gave me the shares. Where did you learn to talk to your father like that?"
Kelsie disconnected her phone from the car stereo and alighted in annoyance, "I’m going to hang up if you have nothing to say."
Jerry hesitated for a moment before he huffed irritatedly and dove down to his reason for calling.
"You know your little sister has been having a hard time because of you, right? Ever since you returned, she has felt this pressure to do better than before."
"Because of this, she volunteered to be one of Professor Jade Callahan’s assistant in the operating room yesterday."
Although knowing where he was heading, Kelsie hummed cluelessly, "Okay?"
Jerry quickly continued, "She told me you’re close with the professor. So meet with her and tell her your sister made a mistake yesterday. There’s no need to press charges and stop her from becoming a practicing surgeon."
Kelsie almost sneered.
"Laura is only an intern, yet she requested to be the professor’s assistant. Prof. Callahan did her a big favor, but instead of being contented, she tried to be a part of the surgery herself."
"Even if the professor forgives her, the hospital won’t. The only reason news about her hasn’t made the headlines is because the hospital is yet to confirm if her rashness harmed their VIP."
"If that VIP doesn’t wake up soon, she’ll be facing charge for intentional murder."
It was at this moment that an anxious voice sounded from Jerry’s end.
"You can’t let that happen, Kelsie! I know you’ve been at odd with me ever since you came back, but you can’t let them blame me for this!"
"I wasn’t the only assistant in the operating room with the professor, so why am I the only one they’re pressing charges against? Kelsie, you have to help me!"
Deborah Thompson snatched the phone from Laura almost immediately and yelled into it, "If your sister goes to court, your father will be affected and if your father is affected, so will Lumen Group."
"Your mother’s company’s reputation will go down the drain and its stock price will definitely plummet. You don’t want that to happen, do you?"
Kelsie’s pupils dilated in response and she moved the phone away from her ear for a brief moment, suppressing the harsh reply that almost rolled off her tongue.
"Father is just the chairman of Lumen Group. If his reputation affects the company in any way, the shareholders will force him to resign on his own."
"If I were you, Laura, I would find a way to deal with this mess you’ve created. I’m busy. So I’m hanging up now."
She ended the call immediately and slipped the phone into her pocket, ignoring the constant buzzing from it.
As she stepped into the apartment building’s reception, her eyes fell on a familiar face.
When the man saw her, the hard frown on his face eased and his cheeks stretched into a bright smile.
"Ms. Sutton, you’re here. I was starting to think you left for work before my arrival."
Serbian Howard hid something behind him as he slowly strolled towards her.
Kelsie met his eyes and scoffed slightly.
"I don’t see any bodyguard with you. If you’re ever kidnapped again, ask to make a call and I’d come rescue you in exchange for an amount fitting for your life."
The man stopped a few meters away from her and beamed, a deep chuckle escaping his throat.
"We seem to think alike, Ms. Sutton."
Kelsie shrugged slightly and slipped her hands into her pocket.
"I take it you’re not here to ask me to be your bodyguard again."
Serbian shook his head and closed the distance between them.
"Not at all. Today, I decided to follow my heart."
Kelsie raised an uninterested brow, "What do you plan to request for this time?"
The smile on Serbian’s face instantly faded, getting replaced by a serious look.
"Kelsie Sutton, it’s only been a few days since we met, but ever since you saved me, all i can think about is you."
"I’ve never felt this way for anyone before, but I know deep within me you’re the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."
"I can’t ask you to marry a man you just met, so date me for a few months to see the kind of man I am."
As soon as he finished, he swiftly brought out his hand from behind his back, moving a bouquet of flowes towards her.
Her eyes quickly reddened, tears pooling in them before she covered her nose with her arm.
She was just about to sneeze when a tall figure inserted himself between them, knocking away the flowers as he said icily, "Don’t you see? She’s allergic to flowers. And you!"
