Chapter 90: Chapter 90 A Formidable Duo...?

"Husband? Mr. Adler..." Kelsie snorted in contempt, about to ask him if this was how he got closer to women when the man threw his face outside the window, interrupting her. free\we,bnovel.c o(m)

"No need to thank me yet. It’s 2pm already and we still haven’t found what we came for. If we waste any more time, we’d be leaving here at sun down. You don’t want to know what Darki is like at night."

It was at this moment that the gang leader leaned forward to ask, "Excuse me, are you two in a relationship?"

"I’d rather eat dust!" Kelsie huffed almost immediately, starting the car.

"Never!" Jett hissed as well, but suddenly frowned and turned to her looking offended, "You’d rather eat dust? Am I that bad? What is so bad about me?"

"Everything." She replied with a straight face, angering the man even more.

"What? Take a good look at me, woman! I’m the most sought after bachelor in Silicon Valley."

"Not only am I tall and handsome, I’m also a billionaire. You have eyes, but don’t seem to be making any use of them."

Kelsie finally turned to look at him.

She hurriedly looked him over and gagged in disgust, "Handsome, my foot! I wonder what they use to grade men these days."

"If someone like you is considered handsome, then my pet monkey years ago also deserves to be called handsome."

"What was that? Did you just compare me to a monkey? My ears are playing tricks on me, right? You better hope they are because I could sue you for this!"

As the duo bickered like children, the gang leader leaned back on his seat and murmured underneath his breath, "How annoying. They’re totally into each other."

Fifteen minutes later, Kelsie stopped the car in front of a farm house.

But when she alighted from it with Jett, she noticed the gang leader was still inside.

To be precise, he had locked the back door, his eyes fearfully darting across the street in search of something.

Kelsie instantly had a hunch.

"You’re not coming out, are there gangsters who should be here?"

Jett’s eyes darted to him as well, involuntarily making the gang leader lower his eyes.

"Darki has good soil, so literally anything and everything grows. Only big food companies in other cities come here."

"And they bring a lot of things with them to appease the big boss before they are allowed to leave with any thing."

"The last time someone came here empty-handed, the big boss broke all four of his limbs and..."

A goofy voice suddenly came out of nowhere, interrupting him, "I don’t recognize your faces. You must be visitors."

Neither Kelsie nor Jett paid any attention to the owner of the voice.

Kelsie raised a questioning brow, "This big boss, is he the one who controls all the gangs in Darki?"

The gang leader nodded.

"The big boss, he’s quite ruthless. And the person behind you is his top goon. He’s the one who does all his dirty work."

His words had just fallen when the goofy voice came up again.

"That doesn’t look like a food truck, but it does look expensive. If you give that to us, what will you use to transport the food and yourself back to your city? Or do you intend to walk back?"

This time, Kelsie and Jett simultaneously turned towards the person talking, their dark and sharp gaze piercing through him.

Unlike the stature his voice hinted at, he was a rather tall man. Not only did he appear to be 7ft tall, he was also burstling with frightening muscles.

He was shirtless with a dirty looking military khaki on his lower body. His head which had no single strand of hair on it was so shiny it reflected the rays of the sun.

Usually, the sight of him was enough to send a frightening chill down the spines of many, just like the gang leader who was covering in fear inside the car.

However, these two people appeared to be ignoring him as they naturally conversed.

"See that? If I wasn’t here, that man would totally intimidate you."

"Shut it. When did I ever need your help?"

"Don’t try to act cool. I’ll take care of that imp. Stay behind me at all times, and scream if anyone else comes out of nowhere to attack you."

"How else do you want me to tell you I don’t need your help. I’ve never needed it."

"Why? You don’t think I’m up to the task. Let me tell you something. Muscles don’t always equal strength. For example, watch how I beat this imp on steroid."

Kelsie didn’t argue.

She just stood behind him and said blankly, "I’m not going to be held responsible if he beats you into a pulp. As a matter of fact, I’d stand here and do nothing while he does so."

The man chuckled in amusement, "You don’t need to do anything my good miss."

Kelsie shrugged and found a wall to lean on as she sized up the 7ft man and just like Jett said, it did look like he only built muscles to intimidate people.

Then she returned her attention to Jett who was now reaching into his pocket for something.

"Hello, if you answer my question honestly, I’ll consider letting you off easily."

He took out his phone and held it up for the man to see.

"Have you seen this person around? If yes, point me towards his direction."

The man’s eyes sparked in anger hearing him.

"You piece of shit, do you think I’m patient enough to exchange meaningless words with you?"

As he growled out in anger, he balled his right hand into a tight fist and sent it towards Jett’s head.

Jett dodged to the side, then swiftly raised his leg to deliver a kick to the man’s chin.

Krack!

That was all everyone heard before the man’s eyes rolled into his head and he fell to the ground on his back, blacking out immediately.
