Chapter 88: Chapter 88 This Bluffing Narcissist
Kelsie, who was getting ready to dodge the attack, suddenly felt a presence behind her and halted.
But since she felt no hostility from the person, she relaxed her tensed muscles, letting herself be easily pulled away.
After ensuring her safety, ’her savior’ turned his eyes away from her and angrily cussed out the thug who had just tried to hit her, "You sick bastard, were you really going to hit her? How dare you bully such a frail and weak-looking woman?"
Kelsie raised her eyes to look at the person and froze in disbelief.
Even with his face turned away, he had lurked around her way too long for her not to recognize him by his side profile.
This rude narcissist, was he stalking her now?
She was still puzzled by his sudden appearance when the gang leader’s brash voice cut through the quiet air.
"Who’s this lame arsehole? How dare you look me in the eyes and talk back? Do you no longer have any use for your eyes and tongue?"
Jett Adler huffed in contempt as he turned to face him properly.
"Lame? If there’s anyone lame here, it’s you. Isn’s Darki known to be a place filled with bold and obnoxious people out for blood, so how could you be threatening such a frail and weak-looking woman?"
"You didn’t just send one man to subdue her, you had to send everyone with you, are they that weak?"
Each line made the gang leader’s face distort until he was fuming with rage.
"You seem to know a lot about my gang. Then you sure as hell know what we do to disrespectful people like you, don’t you?"
Jett briefly looked away from him as he nodded in agreement.
"You beat them half to death and bury them from their neck down, then leave them there to starve to death or bleed out until they die."
"That’s why I’m baffled. You’ve made such a name for yourself and you’re feared wherever your name is mentioned, so how could you shamelessly order all your men to attack a woman? I’m ashamed of you!"
The gang leader finally erupted in anger at the repeated insults, pointing an agitated finger at Jett.
"Your suit looks expensive, so I was going to beat you a bit before letting you off, but how dare a brat like you run your mouth at me?"
"What did you say? You’re ashamed of us? Now I’m in such a hurry to tear out that sharp tongue of yours!"
Jett’s gaze suddenly turned cold.
"Hey, cuss at me one more time and I’ll bury you whole!"
As soon as the words fell, under the scorching hot sun, a frightening chill went down the spine of the gang leader.
But it was there for only a split-second, leading him to believe his mind was playing tricks on him.
From his experience with men who wore such expensive suits, the gang leader knew they were all talk with little to no action.
They always tried to talk their way out of sticky situations and if it didn’t work, they’d throw money at their problem to be let off.
This thought had just settled in his mind when he saw Jett pulling out a wallet.
He took out every bill inside and stretched it towards them with a straight face, "Here, I’ll pay you this much to let this go and put your insolent attitude behind me."
"Make no mistake, this isn’t me negotiating with you, it’s an order that’ll have dire consequences if you refuse my money."
But no sooner had the words rolled off his tongue did a wicked grin spread across the gang leader’s face.
A moment later, the tense lines on his face softened and he slowly began to clap his hands.
"You fancy folks with your expensive suits never fail to disappoint. You run your mouth then throw money at your problem to make it disappear."
"Well, you sly bastard, I’m going to beat you half to death then bury you with your head out and make you watch as I ruin this woman’s face. Then I’ll take my time to gorge out your eyes and tongue."
Jett didn’t respond. Instead, he waited for a few more seconds before retracting his hand and returned the money into his wallet.
Kelsie, who was expecting some action, suddenly felt the man’s big hand envelope hers.
"What are you doing?"
"Run when I say so." The man mummed, his eyes pinned on the gang leader.
Her eyes quickly darted to him in disappointment.
This gang leader was right, he was really all talks with no action.
After saying he’d bury the gang leader if he cussed him out again, he was just going to run?
Even street thugs facing off against a stronger opponent would keep their pride intact by standing their ground despite knowing they’d lose.
She tried to snatch her hand away, but the man held her tighter and turned to look at her with his brows furrowed into a deep frown, "What?"
Before Kelsie could mock him for trying to run away, the gang leader beat her to it as he laughed in disdain.
"Are you finally scared? No worries, I’ll be sure to make it quick and painless! Boys, go get them!"
"Run!" Before Kelsie knew it, the man was pulling her along with him as they darted through the street until they ran into an open compound and locked its wooden gate.
Outside, the thugs kicked and slammed things against the gate, trying to knock it down.
Jett had a big smile on his face as he turned around only to see Kelsie gazing at him, a mocking look in her eyes.
"What is that look for? I just saved your life." He snorted, stating the obvious.
Kelsie folded her arms across her chest and sneered in contempt, "You said a lot of things and I was beginning to think you were a knight in shining amour. Turns out you’re actually a knight in shining cowardice."
"Don’t spout nonsense. At least pretend to be grateful I saved you. If I hadn’t arrived when I did, they would’ve really made true their promise of ruining your face." The man snickered and began taking off his suit jacket.
Kelsie watched in confusion as he rolled up his white sleeves and took off his wristwatch.
Already displeased with him for running away, she wondered what nonsense he was up to now.
"What now? Are you about to take off your clothes to seduce their gang leader into forgiving you?"
The man ignored her, carefully folding his jacket as he found a neat and stable spot to drop it and his wristwatch.
He then unhurriedly cracked his fingers, his eyes pinned on the now budging gate.
"Darn, if I could take off my entire suit, I would. This suit is too expensive to fight thugs in."
"Excuse me? Are you saying you ran away because you didn’t want to fight them in your suit?" The corners of Kelsie’s lips curoed up in disdain, thinking he was bluffing again.
Jett nodded seriously.
"It’s a foreign suit and I had to wait an entire two years to get it. And my wristwatch, I bought it for a high amount, I won’t risk having some thugs break it over a petty fight."
After what he just did, Kelsie didn’t believe him.
"If you’re bluffing again, stop. If those gangsters get in here, we’re as good as dead. Don’t try to act cool and let’s just use this chance to run."
"You don’t believe me? It’s not really my style, but get ready to apologize to me because I’d be beating those petty gangsters to a pulp once they get in here." Jett turned to her and smiled arrogantly.
She sighed tiredly. This bluffing narcissist.
She had no plan of believing him and just got ready to beat up the thugs instead.
She had just leaned away from the wall when the wooden gate was knocked over.
