Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Laura’s Desperation

As Kelsie straightened up, Laura’s gaze darted across the confused faces of everyone in the room.

Mistaking their confusion to not knowing Kelsie was in their midst, she quickly concluded she had pointed out something they weren’t aware of and grew bolder.

She dropped her handbag on the desk beside her and folded her arms across her chest, her left brow moving up provocatively as she stared at Kelsie.

"What’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything? You must have slipped in with them to learn new things from Prof. Callahan."

"If your intent was to learn new things from her, then doesn’t that mean you already know a few things about neurosurgery and are looking to expand your knowledge?"

Kelsie scoffed in irritation.

"Laura, are you diverting everyone’s attention to me now? Why? Is it because you can’t figure out the answer to Prof. Callahan’s question?"

Laura instantly stiffened.

But the very next second, she angrily lashed out at Kelsie, "What did you just say? How dare you say that? I’m trying to give you credibility to be here."

"You joined a group you shouldn’t have joined. Now that you’ve been caught, the professor and hospital directors can decide to press charges against you."

"I’m giving you the chance to appease Prof. Callahan. Give the right answer and she might just consider letting you off the hook."

Hearing her, Kelsie sneered.

"If there’s anyone who should give Prof. Callahan an answer, it should be you. I’ve been walking beside her the entire time. Didn’t you notice that when you forcefully joined us?"

"No, hold on a moment. Are you trying to imply Prof. Callahan, her assistants, the hospital directors and these two doctors from a nearby teaching hospital are idiots?"

"What nonsense are you spouting? How would I see them as idiots? If anything, they’re the ones I look up to the most!" Laura’s eyes fearfully shook at the accusation, quickly defending herself in an agitated voice.

Kelsie tilted her head to the side in confusion.

"Oh? Then why would you say I joined the group without their consent when I was clearly walking beside Prof. Callahan?"

Laura was suddenly tongue-tied.

Indeed, she had seen Kelsie walking beside Jade, but hadn’t given it much thought and just concluded Kelsie had slipped in with them when they weren’t looking.

After all, Kelsie knew no one in Silicone Valley, hence, couldn’t make the acquataince of any of the people accompanying Jade.

So if none of these people were close enough to invite her to accompany Jade, then it was quite obvious that she came to the hospital to form a relationship with Jade Callahan.

But then...

"Ms. Sutton, sorry to ask this, but are you really Prof. Jade’s student?" One of the teaching doctors suddenly asked.

Laura was instantly taken aback.

"What did you say?"

The second doctor spoke up almost immediately.

"This young lady here was specially brought by Prof. Jade herself. In fact, she has been walking beside her all these while, while the rest of us trailed behind her."

"What? Is that true, Professor?" Laura didn’t know when she turned to Jade for a confirmation.

Jade was already frowning hard after hearing Laura’s senseless words to Kelsie just now.

And as a smart woman, it didn’t take her long to connect the dots between the two of them.

Giving that they both had the same last name, then this must be Kelsie’s half-sister.

She didn’t know anything about Laura since Kelsie never spoke about her and this was their first time meeting.

So Jade was confused about one thing.

"Ms. Sutton, you say you were my student from a young..."

She was still talking when Laura unreasonably cut her off, half-shouting as she pointed an accusing finger at Kelsie, "Don’t be fooled by her, Professor. She may have saved that pregnant woman outside, but that is all she knows!"

Pursing her lips, Jade narrowed her eyes at Laura, getting irritated by her loudness.

On the other hand, the directors and doctors were visibly confused.

"Pregnant woman? What pregnant woman?"

The directors had been so nervous waiting for Jade to arrive that they hadn’t paid attention to what was going on within the hospital.

Furthermore, they asked their staffs to pay extra attention to their patients so Jade would see they were a hospital who took good care of their patients.

Because of this arrangement, it had taken time for someone from the hospital to attend to the pregnant woman who fainted outside.

Laura also gazed back at them in confusion, the realization that they didn’t know what happened outside, dawning on her.

If they didn’t know about it, then it was good for her.

Her eyes flickered between Kelsie and Jade and she bit down on her lower lip.

Was Kelsie also Jade’s assistant or had the woman witnessed what happened outside and decided to take her under her wings?

Regardless of what the situation was, she wouldn’t let Kelsie take her glory like she did during the hackathon.

She would make a name for herself in this profession and show Kelsie not everything in life revolved around luck.

She swallowed and pointed at the scan in front of them

"That man earlier, he’s in a critical condition and needs to be operated on as soon as possible."

Jade nodded in agreement, already tired of the conversation and walked towards the projector.

"The battery pierced the upper walls of his left eye socket. Looking at his scan, it caused intracerebral hemorrhage and extradural hemorrhage in the frontal lobe." freeweb\n(o)v.e\l.com

"We should work with Ophthalmology." She paused and glanced at one of the hospital directors, "Call Ophthalmology and have them operate on him. We’ll go in right after they removed the battery."

The director nodded and was taking out his phone to make the call, but paused, "Prof. Jade, will you be in charge of his surgery?"

"We have doctors on standby for that. You shouldn’t bother yourself with such an insignificant surgery." Another director hurried chimed in.

Jade glanced at them and said, "The surgery of the VIP patient with ependymoma is scheduled six hours from now. I’ll be done before then."

"Pick a handful of interns and first-years from the hospital and outside who’ll be going into the operating room with me."

"By the time I’m done with my business in Silicone Valley, I hope to have gotten 6 new exceptional students."

Hearing her, Laura’s eyes lit up with hope.
