Chapter 78: Chapter 78 That Sounds Pathetic To Me

Everyone instantly saw sense in his words.

Many of them were after the profit after all and those who weren’t, were being paid by company.

They reasoned if someone that arrogant and without any knowledge about the company besides the fact that it was her mother’s, took over the firm in the future, the company would surely go downhill.

If that happened, they’d need to start looking for another job. They had worked here for too long and many of them had already deemed it to be where they would be retiring.

They refused to stand side and do nothing while a young girl who didn’t know her right or wrong destroy the company they devoted their entire lives to.

Seeing many of them nodding in agreement, Jerry was all smiles.

His eyes naturally sought out two persons from the group of people to see they still had their eyes lowered to the file.

He didn’t care about Clinton Smith, but he was eager to gain Asher’s favor.

"Mr. Rowe, what do you think about my proposal? Don’t you think it’s the right approach to prepare for the future?"

Asher paused and raised his eyes to look at him, showing no emotion.

"I don’t see why it’s necessary to rename the company."

Jerry, who was half expecting him to outrightly disagree with his proposal, didn’t know when he exhaled in relief hearing him.

He forced on a smile as he explained, "You don’t know this because this is the first time you’re making it to one our company meetings, but my ex-wife is dead which means the founder of this company is a dead woman."

Asher’s expression didn’t change. Instead he raised a brow in confusion

"What does that have to do with anything There are hundreds, if not thousands of famous companies whose founders are all dead."

Jerry blinked at this before casually waving him aside.

"You don’t understand, Mr. Rowe. I read somewhere that the energy of dead people does things to an establishment if they are allowed to linger."

Asher gently closed the file and tossed it on his desk.

"I seem to remember saying just now that there are numerous companies whose founders are dead. You don’t think they’re famous for being failures, do you?"

"What?" Jerry didn’t expect him to continue questioning him about it and was thus taken aback.

Asher narrowed his eyes at him.

"Or do you not know any company whose founder has been dead for decades, while his company keeps blossoming?"

"No, that’s not what I meant. My ex-wife..."

Jerry hurriedly waved his hands at him, feeling the need to defend himself and explain further when Asher cut him off with an irritated snort.

"I didn’t take you for a superstitious person, Chairman Sutton. Had I known that was the case, I would’ve invested in a different company."

"You can be superstitious with your family and friends, but you shouldn’t deal with the company’s affairs the same way you deal with other things."

"You’ve been chairman of Lumen Group for 19 years and you still haven’t learned to separate superstitions from your work? That sounds pathetic to me."

By the time he was done, Jerry was rendered speechless.

Even Deborah couldn’t think of anything to refute Asher’s words with.

Laura was also stunned by the eloquence. But not because she cared of how his words made her father look.

Instead, she was ogling him.

No, she had been ogling him the moment he walked into the room.

His well-sculpted face, those impatient gray eyes and his high-bridge nose which kept flaring in annoyance.

To top everything off, he was a major shareholder in the company.

One billion dollars?

For somsone who could afford to invest such an amount in a failing company, she was convinced he was loaded.

If he could afford such an amount three years ago, then just how rich has he become three years later?

She sucked in her teeth in satisfaction.

With him in the picture, Bryan Baker didn’t look appetizing at all!

With a man like this by her side, no one in Silicone Valley would dare to look down on her.

Even that brat, Kelsie, would be forced to acknowledge her and accept defeat.

While she ogled at him and painted a mental picture of how different her life would be with him, no one in the room noticed her.

Not even Asher Rowe himself.

After waiting for Jerry to respond, he got on his feet and casually grabbed his briefcase.

"You can’t rename a company simply because of such petty reasons, Chairman Sutton. Whatever will be discussed today, I want everyone to know I vehemently disagree with you."

"It doesn’t seem like you have anything else to say to say at this meeting, so I’ll be taking my leave now. Do have a pleasant day."

Then he strutted towards the exit with his free hand dipped into his pocket.

Behind him, Clinton Smith was barely hiding the amused smile on his face as he glanced at Jerry mockingly.

He got on his feet as well and clicked his tongue at Asher proudly.

"He’s still so young, but already knows the right things. No wonder he’s going so far in life."

Then he turned his attention to Jerry and shook his head regretfully.

"And you, it’s been 19 years already since you became chairman and you still haven’t learnt a thing."

"How could you sit there so proudly to announce to everyone that you robbed your elder daughter of the shares her mother left her?"

"I know you’re afraid of losing your position as chairman, but don’t you think us, the shareholders, will be the judge of that if she ever says she wants the company back?"

"If she’s such a dullard, why are you so threatened by her? Do you take us to be fools who can’t figure out what it is you’re trying to pull?"

After chiding him so harshly, he turned and leisurely walked out.

As soon as he did, a thoroughly humiliated Jerry Sutton grabbed the bottle of water in front of him and angrily flung it into the crowd of people remaining in the room.

Knowing he was angry, the person who was hit by it didn’t dare to cry out from the pain.

That evening, after looking through her mother’s belonging for the nth time, Kelsie resigned and went to bed.

The next morning by 10am, she was on her way to meet Jade Callahan at Summit Health Center.

On the other end, after trying to reach Jade Callahan since the day before all to no avail, Laura got up and drove to meet her in the hospital she heard she’d be visiting first.
