Chapter 77: Chapter 77 Asher Rowe, A Major Shareholder

Silence.

Jerry Sutton was taken aback before he laughed curtly.

"Mr. Rowe, it’s nice to finally have you attend one of our company’s meetings. But haven’t you been abroad all these years?"

Although trying hard to, he couldn’t totally hide the worry in his eyes.

This was a meeting he had started and ended numerous times in his head and each time, it always ended with him getting his way.

But with the sudden addition of a majority shareholder he had partially forgotten existed, he was now in a dilemma.

To make it worse, this was his first time seeing Asher as when he had invested in the company and bought shares three years ago, he had done so online and wire transferred him the money.

Then he went out of reach and no one in the company could reach him no matter how much they tried.

They couldn’t even track him through the bank he sent them the money as he had sent it through an offshore account abroad.

Just as Asher Rowe parted his lips to respond to his question, someone exhaled sharply in annoyance.

"A majority shareholder? What is he talking about, Chairman Sutton?"

Everyone turned their heads to see Clinton Smith gazing at Jerry Sutton with darkened eyes.

However, before Jerry could bring himself to say anything, some of the shareholders on Clinton’s side hurriedly filled him in.

"There was a short crisis when you were abroad three years ago, Mr. Smith. The company got into trouble during that time, but it was quickly resolved."

"I think it was a bad investment that plummeted our stock price and almost ended the company. We couldn’t reach you during that time, but less than an hour later, the company’s situation stabilized."

"During the one hour the company looked like it was going to go bankrupt, a few shareholders hurriedly sold their shares and left."

"We were also on the verge of selling ours when Chairman Sutton informed us someone had offered to invest in our company in return for shares."

"One billion." In the midst of their chatter, Asher Rowe suddenly spoke up, causing everyone to go silent.

His eyes flickered across the faces in the room who were now looking at him before he continued, "One billion dollars was what I invested into the company in return for being a majority shareholder."

Clinton didn’t bother to glance towards his direction and kept his cold eyes pinned on Jerry instead.

"Such a thing happened in the absence of another majority holder and you never deemed it fit to tell me?"

Jerry was getting increasingly offended by Clinton’s interrogation.

He had borne it in the past because he didn’t have much power, but not anymore.

Now that there was a another major shareholder in the company, he didn’t have to walk around on eggshells anymore.

All he had to do was suck up to this young man and get him to be on his side.

With that thought, he leaned back on his seat and crossed his fingers in front of him arrogantly whilst squinting his eyes at Clinton.

"Why do you talk like that? Have you forgotten who’s the chairman of Lumen Group between us two?"

"I’ve allowed you do whatever you want for the past 19 years because of my respect for you, but not anymore. If you continue talking to me so condescendingly, I will no longer let it slide!"

"You may be a major shareholder in this company, but that’s all you’ll ever be! Don’t you ever question my decisions ever again!"

His sudden change in attitude shocked everyone, except Clinton, who had been expecting it.

He knew Jerry’s courage would bolster the moment he heard Asher Rowe say he was a major shareholder as well. He just didn’t expect it to be so soon.

After all, from all indications, this was clearly his first time meeting Asher. Fighting against him so openly was tantamount to saying he no longer feared him because there was another major shareholder in the company to have his back.

He chuckled lightly and hummed in agreement.

"I’m a shareholder, so it’s my right to question every decision you make that may affect the company badly. Why? Because I don’t want to lose money."

"And making a stranger you never met a major shareholder of Lumen Group is a risky move."

"How will you apologize for the company if he turns out to be from another company that secretly loathes Lumen Group?"

Jerry shuddered at the question, his eyes subconsciously darting towards Asher.

He really hadn’t weighed it back then. Now that he gave it a thought, he didn’t know a thing about this major shareholder.

But despite this worried thought floating around in his mind, he refused to let them see his shortcoming and snickered loudly.

"Mr. Rowe saved Lumen Grouo in the past. Why would a rival company do that when they start to benefit the most?"

"Stop saying nonsense. We’ve wasted too much time already, it’s time to start the meeting now."

Hearing him, Deborah Thompson and Laura Sutton, who had been watching the scene in silence, got up and began distributing copies of a file to everyone.

By the time they were done and walked back to their seats, everyone had opened the file to see what was written on it.

Jerry watched their expressions change to that of irritation before proceeding to drop his hands on the table.

Clasping his fingers together, he started, "As you can see in the file, my first daughter, Kelsie Sutton, isn’t the appropriate person to run Lumen Group."

"She has never done well in a people-filled environment and often got into fights with people when she was younger."

"Ontop of that, she didn’t do well in school. Why was why I had her removed and homeschooled instead."

"Most of you already knows what kind of a woman she is. She was barely 18 when she slept with a random man and got pregnant."

"And now seven years later, she’s back demanding for Lumen Group because it was her mother’s, but I’ve lived with her long enough to know that she knows nothing about running a company let alone one as big as this."

"As your chairman who’s ever so devoted to you and want you to continue making profit from the company, I did my best and convinced her to sign away her shares to me."

"However, knowing how demanding and self-absorbed she is, I know she will be back in the future to demand this company on the grounds that it was her mothers."

"So I’m proposing that the company be renamed and its founder be changed from my late wife Lois Fletcher, to me, Jerry Sutton."
