Chapter 76 Showing Her Hand

Chapter 76: Chapter 76 Showing Her Hand

Half an hour later, Kelsie sat across Clinton Smith in a buzzing restaurant.

After watching the video her mother made, she finally realized why this man was on her side the moment she walked into the meeting the other day.

Without beating about the bush, she went straight to the point, "My mother said you were a good friend of hers. So she left me some shares under your name."

Clinton Smith said nothing and instead lowered his eyes to the table.

He picked up the menu without sparing her a glance and ordered food for himself.

Seeing this, she squinted her eyes at him in confusion.

"What? Do you no longer have them or do you have no will to hand them over to the rightful owner?"

Clinton still didn’t respond.

Several minutes later, his food arrived and he threw the menu at her.

As he picked up his cutlery, he glanced at her briefly, "Are you also a picky eater like your mother? Otherwise, you should try the food here. They make good stuffs."

It was now Kelsie’s turn to be silent.

After more than a minute of watching him stuff his face with food, satisfaction sprawled across his face, she gently pushed her chair backward and got up on her feet.

"I don’t care that you no longer want to hand them over, I just want you to promise me you won’t vote in favor of what he’s planning."

"If you were really the friend she trusted enough to leave some shares to behind her husband’s back, then she must’ve really trusted you to always have her back."

She then turned around to leave when the man chuckled mockingly.

"You want the shares your mother left for you? Why? You’ve been back for less than a month and Jerry Sutton already has his hands on the few she left you."

"What makes you think you’re qualified to get the rest of the shares when you can’t even handle the few you were left with?"

Kelsie’s eyes instantly dimmed.

"How do you know that?"

The man paused and wiped his lips clean with the serviette beside his plate, then raised his eyes to meet hers.

"Lois Fletcher has been dead for 19 years. She knew how incapable Jerry Sutton is, so she made him be Lumen Group’s chairman on the surface while she had someone else capable run it from behind the scene."

"Do you know why she did that? So your father wouldn’t kick you out as soon as she died."

"She also left the few shares in your name so he would have a reason to keep you around for so long."

"Because he knows he doesn’t have the support of the entire board, he has always known his lane and stayed in it."

"He has always been tired of being seen as a surface chairman, but never had any power to do anything. Now that he has, what makes you think he will continue to sit still?"

"You don’t want Lumen Group to be renamed? Then you never should’ve given him your shares no matter the tricks he pulled."

Kelsie stared him in the face for several seconds before she unhurriedly strode out of the place without uttering word.

Behind her, the corners of Clinton’s lips twitched slightly.

That nonchalance... he didn’t think he would ever see it again.

Too bad Lois’ daughter took after her in everything except brains.

He sighed heavily. recalling the promise he made to her back then and immediately lost his appetite.

Since her daughter turned out to be just like every normal girl out there, he would honor Lois’ last wish and destroy Lumen Group.

Inside a taxi, Kelsie dialed a number.

"I need you to go to Lumen Group for an impromptu board meeting. Vote against everything the company chairman says."

She ended the call almost immediately and stared up at the ceiling of the car.

This hand of hers... she didn’t intend to reveal it so soon since it would bring her a lot of work.

But this Clinton Smith just had to refuse.

And she couldn’t sit still and do nothing while Jerry Sutton took over the reins of the company.

What a bother.

Pressing her finger against her forehead, she leaned her head on the headrest and squeezed her eyes shut.

Meanwhile, approximately ten minutes later, a luxury car drove into Lumen Group and a man wearing a white tuxedo with gold-rimmed fashion glasses alighted from it with a black briefcase.

When he walked into the conference room confidently, everyone’s brows creased in confusion at the sudden entrance of this young man with a great fashion sense.

Because he was dressed in an expensive suit and seemed to be wealthy, Jerry Sutton quickly deduced he was someone important who could’ve been lost in the huge company building.

So leaning forward, he flashed him a warm smile, "Excuse me, gentleman. I fear you’re in the wrong room."

"This is the conference room where an important meeting will be commencing in a few minutes."

"Once you go outside this room, make a right turn and you’ll see my secretary. She’ll lead you the appropriate department you’re trying to reach."

However, the man slipped a hand into his pocket and ran his eyes through the place.

This was a bigger meeting than the one Kelsie had attended. As a result, there were general seatings for shareholders, board of directors and board members.

Everyone watched as he walked to the seating reserved for the shareholders and dropped his briefcase on the last unoccupied seat.

Then he raised his eyes to meet everyone else’s, going ahead to officially introduce himself, "Sorry that I had to make it here without informing any of you in advance."

"I’ve been a majority shareholder of this humble establishment for about three years now and this is my first time making it to one of our meetings in person."

"My name is Asher Rowe and I’m yet to decide if it’s a pleasure to meet everyone here."
