Chapter 210: Chapter 210 A Thorn In The Flesh
"Ms. Sutton, you’re here!" Charlotte Hastings’ perky and excited voice was the first thing Kelsie heard when she parked at Aventis Academy.
Kelsie didn’t bother with her as she alighted and waited for the nanny to do the same before locking the car.
Being the thick-skinned woman she was, Charlotte didn’t care about being ignored and continued buttering up to her as they walked toward the school’s building.
"Oh, and you look so pretty today. Even younger. Is it because you’re a doctor? Do you have any beauty tips for me? I have seen and used quite a number of beauty hacks. One of the many I’ve tried is the..."
She carelessly rambled for over a minute until Kelsie grew tired of hearing her voice and impatiently interrupted, "Not all doctors are dermatologists. And how many times do I have to tell you? I’m not your friend."
Charlotte grimaced and inched closer to her. "Why else do you think I’m trying so hard?"
Kelsie scoffed and stepped away from her. "Ms. Hastings, if you’re up to something, I’d advise you not to do it, because I assure you, once you do, your life will spiral out of control."
For a moment, Charlotte stopped walking, her eyes flashing in surprise.
Quickly realizing that halting made her appear guilty, she forced out a dry cough and hurried after Kelsie again.
"Don’t be so cold, Ms. Sutton. I already tried to go against you and failed. Alone, I’ve realized I can never win against you."
Kelsie immediately glanced at her, her pupils dilating slightly as she couldn’t help but find something wrong with that sentence.
It hinted at something, but at the same time, she knew it could mean anything.
She stopped walking and turned to look Charlotte dead in the eyes, "Whatever you do, don’t forget I still haven’t forgotten about what you did to my daughter."
Though she immediately waved her aside, Charlotte broke out in a cold sweat, the sudden realization that Kelsie might know what she had been plotting for the past few weeks hitting her.
As she stood frozen in place, Kelsie no longer paid her any heed and strutted to the man and woman standing in the hallway, smiling softly.
"Hi, I’m Kelsie Sutton. My children are in the tournament."
"Oh, your children. How many are there, and what are their names?" Asked the woman, reaching for her notebook.
"Jesse, Zade, and Keira Sutton are her children. They’re triplets." Charlotte butted in out of nowhere.
Hearing those names, the man’s eyes first widened in disbelief, then lit up with curiosity.
"Oh, hello, ma’am! Your children are amazing. I always had my suspicions about them being triplets. I’m genuinely curious as to how you made three geniuses at once."
Kelsie’s lips twitched in amusement before she chuckled. "I’m afraid I didn’t do anything. It just happened."
The man’s eyes instantly dimmed.
Smacking his lips in disappointment, he smiled sadly. "Their father is a very lucky man."
"You don’t say," His colleague nodded in agreement as she jotted down Kelsie’s name.
"Oh, you have it wrong here. The triplets don’t have a..." Charlotte cleared her throat, butting in again in a subtle voice when...
"Babe, you left without me. Again."
All six whipped their heads behind them to see two men in black suits striding toward them.
Their impeccably fitted suits, long legs, and perfectly sculpted faces immediately made them stand out among every other man in the hall.
Kelsie’s brows creased in surprise upon seeing Jett.
Over the past one week, Haven Medical Center had been involved in a lawsuit registering a medical malpractice.
While it didn’t seem like much to other people, she knew just how much it affected Adler Group as the majority shareholders.
So she had purposefully held off on reminding him of the tournament today.
Jett stood just an inch away from her and huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "How could you just leave me?"
Kelsie, who was planning to tell him it was because he had work, immediately felt like a bad person.
When he confronted her like this, she couldn’t help, but find her reason for not reminding him ridiculous.
He was their father, after all, and it was only right she remind him no matter what.
She had just parted her lips to apologize when the female teacher raised her eyes and gasped loudly when they landed on Jett’s side profile, both hands flying to her mouth in disbelief.
"My goodness! You must be the triplets’ father. Jesse looks just like you! The radiant blue eyes, hollow cheeks and high-bride nose. I feel like I just teleported to the future."
Hearing such descriptions, some teachers who knew Jesse came to look at Jett as well.
Charlotte Hastings was the only one perplexed as she recognized him as the same man who bailed out Keira during the water bottle accident.
Swallowing hard, she turned her face to the side and nervously bit down on her lower lip.
Back then, she had been too worried about covering her tracks and didn’t notice the resemblance between Jesse and Jett.
She also hadn’t taken Kelsie seriously since she had a crappy car and wasn’t late enough to come running to pick up her children while still wearing her doctor’s coat.
So she found it ridiculous when Jett announced who he was and concluded he was just a low-life trying to scare the teachers.
After all, no lousy single mother was capable enough to have Jett Adler pick up her children from school.
When Ariana Devon got pulled from school in the middle of the day and her family disappeared from Silicon Valley the next day, she felt Kelsie had paid them a visit like she had paid her.
But just this morning, the man she met and made a deal with in the parking lot some weeks ago, sent her a photo of Jett Adler.
It was only then she realized why the Devon family bailed.
Ever since then, she tried her best to stay away whenever he came to pick the triplets, but now he was calling Kelsie Sutton ’babe’?
Pursing her lips, she stared at Kelsie, who still seemed dazed.
Pressing her parted lips together, Kelsie turned away from Jett.
"Well, I was going to take as many pictures of them as I could and share them with you."
Jett walked to stand in front of her again, his face barely away from hers as he scoffed, "Why share pictures with me when I can be there?"
"I thought you’d be at work."
"True. But that’s why I have Eric. To lessen my workload, remember?"
"I just realized that. I’m sorry for making such a selfish decision."
"It’s not that simple."
"What could you possibly want?"
"I almost missed a big day in my children’s lives. Of course, I need time to think hard and long about what I want from you as an apology."
Kelsie went mute.
Indeed, sorry wouldn’t cut it. She wouldn’t accept sorry either if she was on the receiving end on this.
Raising her eyes to meet his, she nodded, "Fine. Take your time."
The words had barely left her lips when another teacher came out of the locker room to talk to the teachers with Kelsie and Jett.
"One of the kids, Jesse Sutton, is refusing to stick with his coach. If he keeps acting up, we’ll have no choice but to replace him. Help me check if any of his parents are here so I can tell them."
Both pointed behind him almost immediately.
Jett didn’t hesitate to volunteer as an external coach.
As they walked away, the woman jotting down names suddenly paused and called out to him, "I didn’t get your name, sir!"
"Adler. Call me Coach Adler." Jett answered without turning back.
At this, the parents in the hallway glanced at each other in surprise.
"Coach Adler? Not a very common name. I wonder how it feels to have the same last name as the wealthiest family in Silicone Valley."
"Lucky fella. Imagine walking into somewhere and they automatically assume he’s part of the Adler family."
"That’s how it works? Does that mean I can change my last name to Adler and enjoy their perks?"
"For a little while, maybe, then you spend a few years in prison for impersonating one of them."
Following the last sentence, a scattered laughter filled the hallway before everyone went back to work.
While the rest of them merely took his name as a joke, Charlotte was hyperventilating.
She stood at a corner watching as Kelsie, Eric and the elderly woman with them were ushered somewhere.
The moment they turned into another hallway, she whipped out her phone to make a phone call.
"Why didn’t you didn’t tell me Kelsie Sutton is dating Jett Adler!" She barked once the line connected.
"I told you not to call me if it’s not necessary things." The man on the other end hissed in irritation.
She clenched her phone tightly and yelled into it through clenched teeth, "This is necessary! I’ve heard stories of Jett Adler. You think I want to be added to the many list of stories?"
"Why? The friend of your enemy is your enemy. If you can’t even face Jett Adler, what makes you think you can face Kelsie?"
Charlotte’s heart immediately dropped to her stomach.
After a while, she made up her mind.
"I want out. What do I have to do to get out of whatever this is and run far away from here?"
The man was silent for a while before he chuckled sinisterly.
"I’ll give you one hundred thousand if you’re the first to run into the mat to Jesse Sutton once he gets his spine broken."
