Chapter 206: Chapter 206 Behind My Back, They Found Each Other

Inside her car, Kelsie couldn’t help feeling like a bum in a bum car with the various exotic cars driving in.

Smacking her lips, she opened the door and alighted, only to see a valet standing behind her.

Glancing at the cars parked behind her, she raised a questioning brow, "I’m sorry, did I park in the wrong spot?"

He smiled and shook his head in disagreement.

"Not at all. I’ve just been informed you were invited by Elderly Mr. Adler. So I’m here to hold your things as you walk into the house."

Briefly glancing at the entrance, she refused, "Isn’t the entrance that way? Unless it isn’t, I don’t think I need any help."

Recalling what was said to him a moment ago, he held both palms and rubbed them together, pleading, "Please let me hold them for you, ma’am. I could lose my job if they find out I didn’t do this."

Kelsie was taken aback hearing this.

Though she found it absurd lofty people like the Adlers would nitpick about a service she refused, she didn’t refuse anymore and handed him her jacket and purse.

Then she walked ahead of him.

It was an untold rule for females to come to events like this wearing dresses. So seeing someone in pants was a new sight for many and they couldn’t help drinking her in.

Kelsie paid no heed to their judging eyes as she walked into the house.

Jett had selected a high-waisted, wide-legged brown trousers to fit her tall frame.

Paired with it was a crisp white button-down, peeking from beneath a structured brown bustier, cinching her waist.

An hour ago, he suddenly came into her room with a box containing the shoes she was currently wearing and a luxury handbag.

She was too busy browsing through the places an agent had sent her to notice and only realized it was a shoe she didn’t own now that she was here.

Sitting in a corner was the redhead who had been with Boyce Adler just last night.

News had spread quickly and the wives of some businessmen had heard he was planning to marry her.

To curry favor with the Adler family, most of them huddled to her side the moment she came down the stairs.

Seeing Kelsie’s shoes, the redhead’s eyes considerably darkened.

"An Ivory YSL heels in Silicone Valley? Where did she get that? I searched everywhere for that shoe."

Following her gaze, the women sucked in a deep breath at the sight of the jaw-dropping beauty, not even noticing the said show.

"Seeing how she got it, doesn’t that mean she must be wealthy?"

"But showing off like that? She’s taking the rest of us as fools for coming in a dress. Does she think we don’t have a similar outfit at home to put on?"

"I do have a similar pant, but my legs are too short to look that good in them. But she... she’s blessed with everything. Long legs, long torso, a stunning body and a perfect face. Excuse me? How can one be so perfect?"

The last person had just spoken when the person beside her quickly nudged her, saying through gritted teeth, "Are you really praising her? It’s fine to be tactless, but don’t let it ruin the chance to get closer to the Adler family for the rest of us!"

Realizing she had accidentally praised Kelsie, the woman rubbed her eyes and quickly rephrased, "I mean, it doesn’t look that good on her. Anyone can pull off that look."

The subject of their discussion, was however, now sipping on champagne as she glanced around for the celebrant.

But she gave up almost immediately.

This living room was as big as the reception in the apartment building. No wonder they had elevators at every corner.

If she didn’t know better, she would’ve thought this was a hotel.

"Forgive me, ma’am. This house is so big it took me a moment to find you." Kelsie suddenly heard an apologetic voice behind her and turned to find the valet standing there, looking nervous

"It’s fine." Kelsie gently waved him off, only now realizing she had given him everything she had on her earlier, including her cellphone. freeweb\n(o)v.e\l.com

Taking it, she frowned slightly noticing the sign of powder on her jacket.

She was about to turn on her phone when a soft chime filled the air.

Raising her eyes, she briefly met the eyes of the man tapping his spoon against his champagne glass.

Given how the noise instantly died down, she realized he was a member of the Adler family.

"Hello, everyone. Many of you know who I am, but to those who don’t, I’m Boyce Adler. I’m just here to tell you it means a lot to my grandfather that you’re all here for his birthday today. Well now, let’s welcome the celebrant!"

Following his gaze, the eyes of everyone in the house went up the stairs to see Jett walking beside his grandfather, arms linked to his as they carefully headed down the stairs.

Once they got down, Jack was handed a glass of champagne by Jett.

He held onto it and briefly swept his eyes through the crowd, a smile hovering above his lips.

"To many, their birthdays don’t mean a lot to them, but to me, it’s a reminder that I’ve lived longer than my peers. Longer than the stupid diagnosis given to me by doctors."

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is a toast to a happy, well-fulfilling, enjoyable and most importantly, long and healthy life ahead of everyone of us!"

"Cheers!" Their toasts came all at once.

Kelsie was a little slow and failed to raise her glass as well as she had her eyes on Jett who wouldn’t stop making faces at her.

Soon, it was time for the birthday gifts.

People with expensive and flattering gifts were the first to jump on it and quickly, a long line was made.

One she was at the bottom of.

After drinking three glasses of champagne, she quietly made her way to the restroom.

She had just walked into the living room again when...

"Oh, there she is!"

All of a sudden, she found everyone staring at her, their eyes dilating as they finally realized why she was bold enough to come dressed to such a high-end party in pants.

Seeing the realization in their eyes, she was even more perplexed and awkwardly greeted them, "Uh, hi?"

Boyce smiled and waved his hand at her.

"There’s no need to be shy, Dr. Sutton. My grandfather wouldn’t stop singing your praises."

Craig nodded, quickly chiming in, "You may think that’s normal, but he has had dozens of doctors over the years and never has he talked about them."

Boyfe chuckled.

"You’re wrong, father. He never even talks about them. He doesn’t even remember their names. Dr. Sutton here has a special place in his heart."

Kelsie forced on a smile, her eyes darting to Daniel, who for some reason, was standing at a corner with his eyes lowered to the floor like he had done something wrong.

Jack Adler was smiling as broadly as ever. But instead of speaking to her, he turned to Jett.

"Isn’t she just gorgeous, Jett?"

Jett barely glanced at her before meeting Jack’s eyes, his expression as cold and stoic as ever.

"I don’t see how that has anything to do with me, grandfather."

Jack almost laughed.

Oh, this grandson of his.

He was an even better actor than those he watched on screen with his wife.

He was silent for a moment before he beckoned onto Kelsie.

She hesitated for a moment before strutting toward him.

He motioned for her to stand beside Jett before speaking up again.

"About seven months ago, I almost drowned near my grandson’s apartment building. But like fate would have it, this wonderful young woman happened to be there at that moment and saved me."

Sitting beside him, Selene Arthur didn’t know when she groaned, dramatically feeling her ears for blood.

Unlike the rest of them, she didn’t know what was happening as she only flew in half an hour ago after being away for almost a week.

"You may think I’m being dramatic, but you have to understand that as his wife, I’ve heard this story a million times."

This made the guests laugh. But at the same time, their perception of Kelsie changed again, eyes green with envy realizing how chummy the Adler’s seemed to be with her.

Smiling, Jack turned to her and sighed, then proceeded to defend himself, "Honey, I was so proud of her and I was ready to give anything to have her marry my son. In fact, had she accepted, I would’ve forced him into registering their marriage."

"That was until I found out I didn’t have to do a thing. Behind my back, they found each other."

The room fell into a silence so deep that Jett and Kelsie’s suddenly elevated breathing became unmistakable, their sharp gasps cutting through the stillness as they snapped toward Jack in disbelief.
