Chapter 196: Chapter 196 The Man Who Hired You To Kill Me

Numerous eyes darted behind them, landing on Kelsie, who stood poised like she hadn’t just been in an accident.

In fact, if not for the faint trickle of blood down the side of her face, they never would have believed she had been in an accident.

"Team leader!" While everyone else was still reacting, Zoe sprinted toward Kelsie, big balls of tears rolling down her cheeks in relief.

Kelsie winced in pain as Zoe embraced her tightly.

After a while, she exhaled croakily, "Keep this up, Zoe and I’m really going to die."

At this, Zoe hurriedly disengaged from the hug and smiled apologetically.

"I’m sorry. I’m just so excited you’re fine. I’m relieved you’re alive. Thank you for staying alive. But I heard your car crash, so how are you still alive?"

Behind them, Aaron Patel’s breath hitched.

Temporarily forgetting Jett had made the declaration of beating him to death just a minute ago, he panicked and gripped him tightly by the arm.

"A-a ghost. That’s a ghost. She’s a ghost!"

Kelsie shifted her gaze to him up, eyes dimming slightly, "You may be right. Usually, I’m very calm and reasonable, but seeing the man who just admitted he was hired to kill me being so bubbly, I’m having this strong urge to beat you to half to death."

Aaron quickly hid away from Kelsie and stared up at Jett in conviction, "Mr. Adler, don’t let that ghost over here fool you."

"Kelsie Sutton isn’t the first to skid down the cliff here, so believe me when I say no one has ever survived that far."

"So unless she wasn’t in the car when it exploded, that thing talking isn’t the woman you think it is."

But Jett wasn’t listening to him.

He had his head turned behind him the entire time, watching Kelsie like a zombie.

Getting a grip of himself, he shoved Aaron to the ground and rushed towards Kelsie.

Cupping her face in his palms, his brows knitted in worry as his eyes roamed her body.

"Your head... is it supposed to bleed this much? You’re not feeling dizzy, are you? You don’t have an injury anywhere else, do you? You don’t..."

Kelsie listened to him smother her with question for a minute before she shook her head in refusal, "No to everything."

He breathed out in relief and leaned forward to peck her on the temple, but paused and leaned back to stare at her sternly.

"I can’t believe you went somewhere without me. I thought we agreed not to go anywhere without me."

"My bad."

Aaron shifter uneasily when he saw the duo embrace each other.

Unable to watch the sight any longer, he turned to warn Eric, "Hey, hurry up and tell him he’s frolicking with a ghost."

"You don’t want to know what happens to people who do so. But best believe it’s bad. Very bad."

Eric shot him a stern gaze.

"You take money in exchange for killing people, but you’re actually so superstitious?"

Aaron paused.

"Religious. I’m religious not superstitious."

Eric’s cheeks slowly stretched into a mocking smile at this correction.

"Is that so? Then you better start praying where you’re going in a few hours won’t be hell."

At this, Aaron nervously bit down on his lower lip and began babbling in fear.

"Be kind to thy neighbors and thy who persecute you. You’re familiar with the holy word, aren’t you? Well, if you’re not, I believe what you just heard me quote is from the holy word."

"I know I may have strayed from my faith for a moment and temporarily condemned myself to damnation, but you shouldn’t let Mr. Adler do that."

"I hear you’re closer to Jett Adler than Siamese twins are to each other. Surely, you love him as a brother and wouldn’t want him to go down such a path, not so?"

Eric stared ahead of him and chuckled calmly. f(r)eew(e)bnovel.(c)o(m)

"Mr. Adler isn’t who you should be worried about right now."

Aaron’s brows creased in confusion.

"What do you..."

Crack!

"Oww!"

Aaron’s hands instantly flew to his broken nose.

Lifting his eyes, he met the leering gaze of Zoe Derruci and grimaced slightly.

Staring past her to the two who were all up in each other’s face, he gritted his teeth as he doubted they’d pay him any heed.

So he turned to Eric, complaining, "This is the second time she’s hitting me. Will no one stop this raging cu..."

Crack!

Zoe slammed the plank against his face a second time, breaking his nose again.

He yelped painfully and held up his nose.

Eric nonchalantly leaned on the car behind him and watched the scene with a bright smile.

Aaron, however, was boiling in rage as the blood trickling down his nose naturally intensified.

"Hit me one more time and I swear I will not..."

The words were yet out of his mouth when she raised the plank again.

His eyes instantly widened in fear and he raised both hands in surrender.

"Okay! Okay! I’m sorry. Don’t hit me. Please don’t hit me!"

Zoe paused, her grip on the plank tightening as she glanced at Eric with a straight face.

"His lips moved, but I heard nothing, did you?"

Eric immediately shook his head. "I don’t think he said anything."

"Yeah?" Zoe’s lips slowly curled into a wicked grin as she proceeded to bring down the raised plank down on his nose for the third time.

Aaron couldn’t control himself any longer and burst into tears.

Crawling away from her with one of his hand, the other still holding up his nose, he hollered loudly to Kelsie and Jett.

"Get this crazy woman away from me. I’d rather you haul me off a cliff than let her continue hitting my nose!"

Only then did the couple pause to look at him.

Jett, who had just leaned in for a kiss, was rather disgruntled.

"You’re still alive?"

Aaron swallowed.

"I will tell you. I will tell you everything I know about the person who sent me to kill her."

Jett then turned to Kelsie and raised a questioning brow, "What do you think?".

She thought for a moment before sucking in her teeth.

"How much were you paid?"

Aaron was perplexed.

"That’s the first thing you ask me?"

In reply, she simply stared at him without emotion.

Realizing she was being serious, he sat up and took out his phone for the receipt.

She took the phone from him and immediately scoffed when she saw the number of zeros present.

"You’ve got to be kidding me. One million? You were paid one million to kill me? No way you really took a million to end my fabulous life. I feel so disrespected!"

Jett took the phone from her, strolled to Aaron and slapped the back of his head.

"Do you know nothing about business? You’re a gun for hire, what part of my darling made you think she wouldn’t triple the miserly amount this son-of-a-bitch gave you?"

"M-my darling?" Aaron repeated, his eyes flickering between the two in confusion.

All of a sudden, it all made sense to him.

Right. Just now, these two were in each other’s face!

He hadn’t thought about it earlier as he was too busy trying to talk his way out, but now that he thought of it, there was no doubt about it.

Earlier, he felt Kelsie must be a close friend of Jett’s or something, but now...

Hah! He was a dead man walking.

"Yes, really? I could’ve given you ten times of that. I mean, I came to the race track in hopes of getting Zoe from you by spending at least 3 million." Kelsie was still fuming.

Upon hearing her, Zoe immediately burst into tears.

Even Aaron was surprised.

"You’re not the one who’s about to have a plastic nose for the rest of his life, what could you possibly be crying about!"

Zoe sniffled and stared up at Chloe with red eyes, "Team leader, you were really going to pay that much to get me back? That’s the best thing anyone has ever done for me."

Kelsie and Jett briefly exchanged glances before staring at her worriedly.

Beside her, Eric hesitated a little before he gently patted her on the shoulder.

"Stop crying?"

"How can I not cry when..."

She quickly trailed off and stopped talking when she saw Kelsie pull a chair to seat in front of Aaron.

"So who is this man who paid you to kill me?"

Aaron, who already bade goodbye to his life, didn’t waste any time as he recounted.

"Someone mailed me a burner phone a few days ago. In it were details to an offshore bank account, a mail address and its password."

"I found information about you in the email’s draft. It had your age, where to find you and who I had to draw in to get you here. That’s all."

Kelsie already expected he wouldn’t know much. He was a small fry who could only control one race track after all, but there was something bugging her.

"Assuming i was in the car which really exploded, how would he know you really did kill me?"

He pressed his lips into a thin line and sighed, "I asked the same thing, but he said not to worry about that. That he has other sources.."

At the same time, on the rooftop of Haven Medical Center

Removing the listening wire from their ear, the figure in a lab coat retrieved a phone and dialed a number.

"It’s me. Aaron Patel failed."
