Chapter 190: Chapter 190 I Will Eat Another Day
Drying his wet hair with a towel, his right hand pulled the door open.
He sensed danger and instinctively moved to the side as a long rod flew toward his chest, but the rod followed him. fre ewebno(v)e\l.(c)om
So he waited.
Waited for the rod to do some kind of damage, but several seconds went by without that happening.
That was when he looked down and scoffed irritably when he saw it was a mopstick.
He didn’t bother to raise his head and just sighed.
Oh, the whack job he had for a brother. He hadn’t even begun questioning him yet and the nut job was already spiraling.
And here he was thinking his enemies had finally come for him.
Hissing, he grabbed and tugged the mopstick, pulling the person on the other end towards his chest.
"Daniel, did you get high on purpose so I when I chastise you for lying to me you won’t remember a thing I said tomorrow?" He had just raised his fingers to poke his naughty little brother on the table when he saw a completely different face.
"My darling? How are you... I didn’t think you’d come to see me. "
Almost pressing against his chest, Kelsie winced in embarrassment.
Given that Jett lived here with his younger brother, an assistant who was always nearby and workers, she found it unlikely that the door wasn’t getting answered and thought the worst.
So she ran down to her apartment, grabbed a mop stick and got ready to beat whoever invaded the house.
But even if that wasn’t the case, the least she expected was to see Jett with just a towel tied around his waist, hair dripping wet.
And those bulging muscles as he moved around... when did this man become so attractive?
And his torso...
She squeezed her eyes shut, shaking off the thought before she could think of anymore unaware her face had turned beet red as a result of the vivid imagination.
Jett, who was about to tease, suddenly cupped her face in his palms, brows creasing worriedly, "Did you come down with a fever? Why are your cheeks so red?"
Kelsie quickly snapped back to reality and took a step backward.
Though as soon as she did, she immediately missed the warmth of his body. However, she just fiddled wiht the mopstick looking nonchalant.
"You’re alive. That is good."
"Alive?" The man repeated in confusion, but a second later, his eyes twinkled in realization and he leaned on the doorway smiling slyly. "Oh, don’t let it get to you."
It was Kelsie’s turn to be confused as she raised a questioning brow, "Don’t let what get to me?"
Smiling lewdly, he pointed at himself, "This affection you have for me."
The words were yet out of his mouth when she refuted, "I have no affection for you."
Waving his finger in her face in disagreement, he stood straight again.
"No? Then why did you come running up to my apartment with a mopstick? Here’s what I think."
"You didn’t hear from me all day and you got worried because I’m always lurking around and you missed me. So you took it upon yourself to check on me."
Seeing the smug smile which followed that absurdly true deduction, Kelsie instantly pointed the mop stick at his chest, denying.
"Oh, don’t get ahead of yourself. We’re neighbors and you’re the father of my children. It’s only normal that I want to be sure you’re still alive."
"You only wanted to be sure I’m still alive?"
"Why else would I be here?"
"I could’ve sworn that’s what cellphones are for. You remember it, don’t you? I’m talking of the little thing you called me on yesterday?"
Kelsie couldn’t stand the smug smile on his face and huffed pretentiously, "I can’t even look after a neighbor without being accused of something so ridiculous? Forget it. I don’t care what happens to you. I’m leaving now."
At this, he promptly stood in her way, arms spread wide apart to stop her from leaving.
"Have you ever been to my apartment?"
"No?"
"Not to brag, it’s better than a penthouse. I’ve never let anyone in it and only those who built and decorated it has an idea what it looks like. Don’t you want to see it?"
"I don’t."
"I see. Have you had dinner, then? I was going to make dinner after showering."
He said a lot of things, but all Kelsie saw was his bugling muscles as he waved his hand around.
When she didn’t respond, he inched toward her, "My darling?"
Moving toward her was enough to snap her back to reality.
She put some distance between them by taking a few steps backward then murmured under her breath, "Will you stop moving your arms like that? Your muscles look better defined by the second, it’s driving me insane."
Jett hadexcellent hearing, but he feigned ignorance and asked, "What did you say?"
Glad he didn’t hear her, she cleared her throat noisily and retorted, "I said I’ll have dinner with you. Just put on some clothes before you do anything."
"Of course."
So she went in with him.
Before she could offer to help, he refused and just wore the apron over his bare upper body.
Halfway into cooking, she sucked in her teeth in recollection, "So you burnt down an entire school."
He chuckled, "You must’ve heard."
"I thought we agreed to keep the triplets a secret for now?"
"At first, I planned to teach that stupid teacher and his brother a lesson. Then you suddenly disappeared and I happened to look outside the window and saw you hugging two little kids Jesse’s age."
Kelsie’s brows first knitted into a frown then her pupils dilated in realization and she cackled in amusement.
"They seemed to be Jesse’s age and you didn’t connect the dots at all??"
He thinned his lips and paused to glance at her, "If you haven’t noticed, having twin children is rare. How much more triplets."
Supporting her head with her right palm, she rhythmically drummed on the counter with her free hand as she recalled the events of that day.
"It now makes sense why you suddenly left after professing your undying love."
After seasoning the beef, he covered the pot and turned to look at her, smiling regretfully.
"My darling, I was really hurt. Now that I think of it, I should’ve done an extensive background check on you the moment you moved into the apartment building."
"I won’t know a lot of things, but I wouldn’t have done some stupid things because I thought certain people were your husband."
Turning her hand over, she clicked her tongue.
"I should’ve kept up the appearance by wearing a fake wedding ring. That way you wouldn’t know if to believe your private investigator or what you see see."
Jett shrugged calmly, "Well, I can always buy you a ring. A better wedding ring. And of course, a big wedding."
"I don’t feel fine." All of a sudden, she lowered her eyes to the counter and sighed tiredly.
Jett hurriedly took off his hand mittens and inched towards her, touching her face and neck.
"You’re heating up. Come, I’ll take you to the hospital."
He was just about to grab his keys when she stopped him.
"I’m not heating up because I’m sick."
"Is the heater too..." Jett was saying cluelessly when her lips violently crashed on his.
"What about the food?" He asked as he lifted her off the floor and headed for his bedroom.
Kelsie laughed.
"Would you rather I eat now?"
"Of course not!"
The following morning, Jesse begrudgingly endured being dressed for school by the nanny.
As they prepared to have dinner, the door suddenly flew open and a disheveled Kelsie sauntered in holding both her shoes.
"Mommy?" Jesse called out just to be sure he was looking at the right person.
"Yes, baby." Kelsie answered, strutting to her room after sparing him a quick glance.
Noticing her dark eyebags, Zade couldn’t resist asking, "Why do you look like that?"
"Yes, you don’t look like you slept at all." Chimed in Keira.
"That’s because mommy only got two hours of sleep. Give me some minutes to get ready." She hummed and disappeared into her room.
As they sat around the dining table, Jesse stared at his siblings with a hard frown, his thought flashing back to Kelsie’s state when she walked in a minute ago.
"Say, where do you think mommy went?"
"I was worried when I woke up this morning, so I called the security and they said mommy never left the vicinity." Zade answered amidst mouthfuls.
Jesse nodded in agreement.
"I checked the surveillance cameras too and she wasn’t in any. But she obviously went somewhere, how is it possible she wasn’t filmed by any of the cameras?"
"Neither the cameras on the stairs caught her. She wasn’t in the elevators either. Mommy doesn’t disappear, does she?"
Keira, who was halfway slurping down her grape juice, paused in realization.
"Oh, I know. Uncle Daniel once said the only elevator without a camera is the one heading up to the floor above ours."
"Basically, the camera is shut off once you input floor 50. Wait, do you think mommy spent the night with daddy?"
Zade had just lowered his eyes to his plate when they eyes shot up again.
"Right? Right! She did! They absolutely spent the night together. Upstairs!"
Keira’s cheeks voluntarily stretched into a smug smile as she leaned back on her seat.
"Hah! Seems we’ll be living with daddy soon!"
As Zade and Keira rejoiced, Jesse was fuming beside them.
"She was with daddy? Ridiculous! No wonder I dislike that man!"
That morning, Jett arrived at Adler Group humming a happy tune only to find everyone panicking.
Eric brought him a computer. Sprawled in large and red letters were the words, "My mommy deserves better. Stay away from her or I’ll continue hacking your stupid computers!"
