Chapter 189: Chapter 189 Meetings
Hearing the last sentence, Kelsie sighed internally and glanced behind her.
Jett Adler, burning down an entire school isn’t how you keep the triplets out of the public’s eyes.
You also have no business with anything related to a grade school. If you suddenly go around burning schools, you leave the people no choice, but to think in that direction.
And it wasn’t also hard to deduce he was the one behind it given how he was the only man who could burn down a school and efficiently suppress news about it.
When she was done scolding him in her mind, she threw a stoic look Charlotte’s way.
"Isn’t Jett Adler into men? How can he have children?"
At this, Charlotte chuckled.
"The rumors say that, but if you ask any gay man who’s within his radar if he’s gay, they say they’re not picking up any signals."
"Either he keeps his affair strictly under wraps or the public has just been fooled all these years years."
"And who says he can’t have children? Getting a surrogate these days isn’t that difficult and given his grandfather’s sickly state, he must’ve been pressured to have an heir as soon as possible... where are you going?"
Charlotte was instantly taken aback when Kelsie suddenly turned to open the door of her car, slipping into the driver’s seat.
Hurrying to her window, she smiled forcefully as she reminded, "You can’t possibly be living when I just told you my livelihood is at stake."
"If you won’t let me go back to dealing the examination materials, shouldn’t you at least give me an alternative?"
Kelsie first started the car before turning to look at her, brows furrows slightly.
She beckoned onto Charlotte who happily lent her ear.
"You’re Charlotte Hastings, a highly esteemed teacher in Aventis Academy with a good salary and a nice house."
"If you ask me, I think it’s better to be that than to be Jane Doe who’d be found floating in a body bag three weeks from now."
"It’ll be impossible to identify you as your DNA will be entirely ruined. As a result, your unclaimed body would be bought by a teaching hospital as a cavalier for their students."
Charlotte’s face turned pale from fear.
Three days ago, Charlotte wouldn’t have believed a single word she said, but after Kelsie stormed out of her apartment and into it again with an axe, a gallon of acid and a body bag, she didn’t dare to doubt her anymore.
To make it worse, the estate’s surveillance cameras which were always running never captured her coming in or out of the estate nor her apartment.
She even had a different technician come check the cameras and he also said there was nothing wrong somewhere. It wasn’t hacked nor was anything deleted.
Did Kelsie not come to see her today, she would’ve believed what happened that day was nothing, but a bad dream.
"You... you wouldn’t really do that. That night, you only gave me two options and this wasn’t part of them."
Kelsie feigned ignorance for a moment before she nodded in realization and placed both hands on her steering.
"Oh, that’s true. My apologies. You keep acting all friendly you almost made me add a third option to it. Don’t do that again, Ms. Hastings."
Charlotte quickly nodded and leaned backward a little.
"But what do I do about my house? My rent’s expiring by the end of this week. I’ll do whatever you ask me to."
Kelsie proceeded to place a hand on the window and clicked her tongue, sighing pitifully, "At least Charlotte Hastings has house rent to worry about. Jane Doe wouldn’t. Do you yearn to be her so badly?"
Once again, Charlotte vigorously shook her head.
"No, of course not. I’m just thinking out loud. I’d never dare to bother you with such insignificant issues."
Kelsie hummed in understanding.
"I thought as much. Now you might want to move away from the car. My eyesight gets a little blurry when I see trash."
Charlotte promptly moved away from the car, her tense body relaxing as Kelsie’s car drove out of the gate.
But the next second, the reality of her new life sunk in again.
Frustrated, she turned to to kick the trash cans and everything in sight in pure rage.
"If I can’t deal the darn materials how the fuck does she expect me to take care of my bills now! Damn it!"
"Argh! Oh, what I’d give to strangle that cocky bitch with my bare hands!"
"Are you sure about that?" Someone chuckled sinisterly behind her.
She jumped and turned around quickly, both her brows jerking up in surprise when she saw a man with a hat and dark sunglasses behind her.
When she hurried to Kelsie’s window earlier, she was certain she hadn’t seen anyone there.
So how did this odd man suddenly appear behind her?
Getting on his feet, the man wrapped his neck tighter with his shawl and crossed his arms across his chest.
"I have very sensitive skin which tan’s unnecessarily. So not to tan, I go to these extreme measures."
Charlotte wasn’t in the mood to deal with someone who looked and could be a possible swindler, so she hissed impatiently.
"If you don’t have a child in this school and you didn’t come to speak with the principal about enrolling one, you have no business being here. Leave before I call security."
The man stared straight at her for a moment before shaking his head in pity.
"The only way you’ve survived this long is because you deal exam materials and pilfer those expensive things from the children."
"When I found out that self-righteous woman had you return all the things you liberated from those careless children and and ordered you to stop dealing exam materials, my heart went out for you and for a moment, I thought my help would be appreciated."
"But if you’ve got this under control, then I really do not see any need being here anymore."
He then turned around to leave, but Charlotte quickly stopped him.
"Wait! What you said earlier, ’are you sure about that?’ Yeah, I’m sure. Kelsie Sutton has her hand wrapped around my throat ."
"It’s only been a few days and I’m already crumbling. I won’t survive much longer if this continues."
The man paused, but didn’t turn to her again.
While he seemed reluctant, under his hat, he was smiling broadly.
"Well, you’ve hit the jackpot, then. I will take care of your financial needs, but in the meantime, I need you to maintain your desperate appearance."
She was taken aback.
"Why?"
Tilting his head to the side, he exhaled worriedly, "Not only does she have a lot of friends in high places, she’s also incredibly smart. If she catches on, I won’t be able to help you anymore. Do we have a deal?"
As this happened, Kelsie helped the triplet out of the car, and couldn’t resist asking them, "I was going to ask once I came home yesterday, but Zade was already asleep. So how was your day yesterday? Did you all have fun?" freew\ebno\vel..(c)om
As if on cue, all three of them paused, glanced at each other then flashed her a bright smile.
Kelsie grew suspicious.
"I can’t tell if you’re about to lie to me or my question brought memories of the many fun you had yesterday."
Zade laughed croakily, eyes constantly warning his siblings.
He was working towards being Dustin Mercer’s disciple. So he wanted it to be a surprise.
Furthermore, she was a modern doctor and he doubted she knew who Dustin Mercer was.
"What is there to lie about, mommy? Didn’t daddy fill you in?" Keira vaguely responded.
Jesse grimaced, "That man is many things, but he is no liar."
The triplets’ view were simple; as long as Kelsie didn’t ask what they specifically did, giving her such vague answers wasn’t them lying.
"It was really fun, mommy. Come with us next time." Zade laughed softly, slipping his hand in hers.
"Right."
They arrived at the apartment, had their baths, ate and started their homework.
Kelsie kept glancing at the time that Jesse couldn’t help noticing.
"Mommy, you keep glancing at the time, are you going somewhere?"
Kelsie parted her lips, attempting to lie but quickly stopped herself.
No. There was no reason to lie. It was absurd to also lie.
That man was always lurking around, but he wasn’t anywhere today.
Was he just buried in his work or did an assassin sneak in and murderer him while he was so busy?
Thinking like that, she excused herself from the apartment and went upstairs to find him.
Jett, who was in the shower, realized Daniel had left the house when the doorbell wouldn’t stop ringing.
Only a few people were bold enough to come here and they never exceeded Eric, Daniel, the housekeeper and chef.
Besides the housekeeper who was an elderly woman, the rest were all men and he had gotten comfortable walking around them with a towel around his waist.
So thinking it was one of them, he rinsed the latter off his face and left the shower with a towel tied loosely around his waist.
