Chapter 186: Chapter 186 Jett: Daniel, How Do You Know The Triplets?
A brief silence ensued.
After staring at the paper for several seconds, the judge made to get on his feet when Bryan glowered, "That cannot happen! It’ll never happen. Do you understand me, your honor?"
Taking his seat again, the judge sucked in his teeth, a nervous glint flashing past his eyes as his gaze flickered between a seething Bryan and a relaxed Jane.
If Kelsie and Jane doubted the situation earlier, Bryan’s authoritative words just now and the judge succumbing to it were enough to prove them right.
However, Kelsie pretended not to notice anything and returned to her phone while Jane flashed Bryan a faint, knowing smile.
"Mr. Baker, I understand you feel more at ease with him being the judge, but this really can’t be helped."
Gritting his teeth, Bryan rested one hand on his waist and waved the other in her face, "This darn woman. You really have no shame. How dare you continue being cheeky with me! How dare you threaten him with his daughter?"
Jane stared at him blankly. "Threaten him? Mr. Baker, what are you talking about?"
Seeing that she was adamant about acting clueless, Bryan lost it and lunged to grab her hair, but his lawyers intervened, pulling him back as he yelled angrily.
"You’re a conniving little cunt. Don’t try to play dumb with me!"
Jane didn’t let this affect her mood as she turned to face the judge, speaking calmly.
"Your honor, drunk driving isn’t that serious, but you’re a famous man with a pristine reputation of being just."
"If the public finds out your daughter committed such a crime and tried to hide it from them, they’d want to know what more your family could possibly be hiding."
"Once they start looking into your daughter, they’d naturally look into every member of the family, including you."
"I believe your daughter knows this which is why she came to me, a nameless lawyer, whom the public pays no attention to and not your family’s lawyer."
Bryan’s lawyers still held onto him as he snorted irritatedly, "Shut it, you darn wench! Do you think that’s enough to get the judge to vacant his seat? Dream on!"
Casting a glance his way, Jane shook her head slightly, "I’m merely suggesting that the judge steps down for his own good."
"You said the press are outside, so whatever happens in this courtroom today, be rest assured they’d be people tearing down what they know about me and it’ll only be a matter of time before they find out I’m representing his daughter. Think about it."
Jane was a lawyer, so it was no surprise she was so smooth and fluent.
She was also being logical and reasonable.
So logical Bryan’s lawyers couldn’t find anything wrong in her plan.
The judge was already willing to vacate his seat as soon as he saw the paper. Hearing more reason why he had to step down solidified his resolve to do so.
"Mr. Baker, I will step down and I’ll also recommend a good friend of mine to take up the seat. A just and...."
Bryan impatiently cut him off, drowning his voice with his as he arrogantly assured him, "Pay no attention to this nameless lawyer. I’m Bryan Baker, heir to the Baker family. Whatever happens, I’ll make sure no one looks into you."
Jane snapped her gaze toward him, stating matter-of-factly, "The netizens are hungry for news. Your Baker family may be influential, but they’re not influential enough to keep things like this under the rug."
Without realizing it, Bryan’s lawyers bobbed their heads in agreement, but immediately stopped when he glared at them.
Enraged, he turned his attention to Kelsie.
"So this is it. This is why you’ve been so calm the entire time. You pretend to be a chaste and noble woman when you resort to cheap tricks like this. You should be ashamed of yourself!"
Jane was stunned by this hypocrisy.
Kelsie, cheap tricks?
Bold of him to call this a cheap trick when he pushed down the court hearing for six entire months.
That wasn’t enough. He still went behind their back to meet the judge then blatantly rubbed it on their faces that he had bought over the judge.
But since the situation turned against as a result of her finding a legal way to have a fair and just hearing, he suddenly realized one shouldn’t resort to tricks.?
How thick-skinned. Disgusting and thick-skinned.
She made no effort to hide her disgust as she called out to the judge, "Your honor, Mr. Baker here keeps ignoring my warnings not to speak to..."
She trailed off when she felt a tug and turned to Kelsie in surprise.
Kelsie exited her game and got on her feet, eyes pinned on Bryan’s face.
"I don’t want any trouble. I really don’t. So let’s have a change of judge and once my restraining order against you is put in place, we won’t speak of this anymore."
"What do you..." Bryan was about to lash out again when the jduge hurriedly cut him off.
"I’ll do it."
"Thank you, your honor. My client and I will be back in two days, then. Have a nice day." Jane picked up her handbag and strutted out of the room with Kelsie.
Once they got outside, Kelsie turned to her with a raised brow, "You wouldn’t have outed the judge’s daughter, right?"
Jane chuckled, "What do you think of me? I never out my clients for any reason. It only worked because he has worked with worse people."
"Be my family’s lawyer."
"Okay."
After making this verbal agreement, both women returned to their workplaces.
As Kelsie arrived at the hospital, Jett was driving back the triplets.
"Everyone says I have a handsome daddy." Keira beamed proudly in-between her brothers.
Zade giggled, "Wait until they see mommy."
Jesse was the only one who sighed tiredly, "We’re going to become too popular for having good-looking parents."
Keira turned to him, leaning on his shoulder as she recalled, "You know, an elementary school teacher asked me if mommy was single. I mean, there’s just one of her so I said yes."
Screech!
Thankfully, the kids had their seatbelts fastened around themselves. Thus, they weren’t thrown forward when Jett suddenly braked.
Their curious eyes instantly shot up, meeting Jett’s in confusion.
"Do you not know how to drive?" Jesse frowned slightly.
"Daddy made a mistake. Promise not to tell mommy." Mummed Jett as he parked properly.
Before Jesse could refuse, Zade quickly leaned forward, showing him something on his phone.
"I will forget about this if you take me here before taking us to the house."
"Done." Jett barely glanced at the location before nodding.
Zade smiled and leaned back while Jett turned to look at the other two.
His eyes first landed on Jesse’s suspicious face before shifting his attention to Keira’s adorable big eyes.
"Keira."
"Daddy?"
"If anyone asks if mommy is single, tell them no."
"Uh, why? There’s just one of her."
"You see, mommy and I are two now and we now count as one."
"You’re merging with mommy?"
"No, what I mean is, we’re like two peas in a pod."
"But when I take out a pea, it’s still single."
"The pea is an illustration of how mommy and I are like. In our case, you won’t be taking out any pea."
"Why is mommy being referred to as a pea?"
Jesse got tired of hearing Jett’s dumb illustration and turned to his sister, "Keira, he means to say he’s with mommy."
Her eyes lit up almost immediately, "Oh, like they’re together?"
He hummed, "Mhm. So when someone asks if mommy is single, they’re asking if she’s not together with anyone. So the right answer here is..."
Jett was about to exhale in relief when he heard the rest of Jesse’s sentence and choked on nothing.
"Yes, mommy is still single."
Catching his breath, he stared at Jesse sternly, "What do you mean? Don’t lie to your sister about things like that."
Jesse didn’t bother with him and just glanced outside the window, snorting, "Mommy doesn’t hide anything from us. So if she hasn’t told us she’s with anyone, you’re just a fling."
Knowing he couldn’t deny that, Jett’s lips twitched uncontrollably and he turned to the road again.
Never in his life did he think he would be considered as a fling.
"You look like me, but she pasted her personality on you."
As he sulked quietly and turned on the car, Zade leaned forward again.
"I should be at this recreational center in twenty minutes. What do you think? Will that be possible?"
Jett finally glanced at the location and nodded. Then drove off.
Fifteen minutes later, they were in front of the recreational center.
As Jett led them out of the car and turned to speak to the valet, Jesse’s brow knitted into a tight frown.
"This place is bustling with people. I don’t like it."
Zade, however, looked around proudly. "This miracle doctor came and everyone’s clamoring to see him."
Keira shrunk her neck, leaning on Jett, "Is he that big of a deal? At this rate, there’s going to be a stampede."
It was at this moment that a red sports-car pulled into the premises.
Daniel absentmindedly threw his key at the valet as he hurried to the triplets with a bag.
"Here, I bought you clothes on my way here. You’re smart, so it’d be easy to fool the doctor into thinking you’re an adult with the physique of a child."
"Here is yours, Jesse. Where’s your sister?"
Hearing her name, Keira quickly turned to him and he was about to hand her the clothes he brought when someone suddenly picked her into his arms.
He froze, his eyes involuntarily trailing up to the person’s face where there was a cold smile awaiting him.
"Daniel, you know the triplets. How is that possible when I haven’t told anyone about them?"
