Chapter 187: Chapter 187 Dustin Mercer, A Face From The Past
Keira had long zoned out, burying her chin in Jett’s neck as she observed the park.
Watching Daniel smile nervously, Jesse nudged Zade, brows creasing in confusion.
"Zade, do you know this man?"
"I don’t."
"Neither does Keira and I. Sir, who are you supposed to be?"
At this, Daniel cackled loudly, pressing his palms together as he lowered himself to their height.
Placing a hand on each of their heads, he tousled their hair and started rambling
"M-my goodness! You’re both so adorable. Now that I’m this close, I fear I must’ve mistaken you for my nephews."
On cue, Jesse and Zade giggled childishly.
Daniel exhaled in relief, his throbbing heart gradually steadying as he grew calm again.
After a while, he raised his eyes towards Jett, a stiff smile on his face as he pretended to be confused, "Brother, did you also find them adorable and couldn’t resist coming close?" free\we\bnov(e)(l).com
Daniel had been busy with school work and so were the triplets, so they hadn’t been able to actually have a conversation with each other.
However, seeing the faint smile on Jett’s face, Jesse and Zade instantly knew their acting didn’t work.
Unfortunately, Daniel was too busy avoiding Jett’s gaze to notice.
"Daniel?"
"Yes, my big brother."
"By any chance, do I have some kind of makeup on my face?"
"Makeup? Since when do you wear makeup?"
"I know, right? That’s why I asked. I just want to be sure I don’t have some kind of clown makeup on my face."
Daniel went mute.
Zade and Jesse quietly glanced at each other.
"I can explain." Daniel didn’t bother denying it and just melted under Jett’s heated gaze.
Just then, someone came out of the building, regarded the environment and announced, "The door will be closing in a minute. All those who wish to see Mr. Mercer should come in now. Once shut, the door will not be opened again until he’s done."
Jett, who had parted his lips to say something, refrained from doing so when he saw Zade scurrying towards the building.
Eyeing Daniel sternly, he held Jesse’s hand and followed after Zade.
Inside, all the chairs were already taken and they barely found a space to stand on, despite the building being the largest in the park.
Once the one minute elapsed and the door was shut behind them, a man who seemed to be in his fifties emerged form the backstage.
Instantly, joyous screams came from every corner of the room.
He slowly strutted to the middle of the room, slowly waving at them before he took his seat.
The lights soon changed color, and a group of teenagers rushed in from backstage.
Before the lights went out and their performance began, Jett thought he found the face familiar.
Though time had done it work, the face remained the same.
Until the performance ended, Jett spent the entire time trying to recall where he had seen him from.
I’m the end, he couldn’t remember which department, but he was convinced the man was a doctor.
Once the presentation ended, people clamored to get an autograph from him, but the man suddenly disappeared into thin air.
Even his security couldn’t find him. But after a quick talk with his students, they stopped and began controlling the crowd.
Only Jett noticed this as Jesse and Daniel were too preoccupied listening to Zade yap in excitement.
"They are so unserious, I love them! People think these teenagers are going through a lot, but they’re also having fun."
"Did you see that choreography? You don’t get something like that from practicing one hour everyday. To be that perfect, it’s nothing less than two hours everyday."
"Learning medicine, making money and learning skills like choreography on the way, dream life!"
Jett wanted until he was done talking to butt in, "Zade, if you wanted to meet him, you could’ve told me. I have a lot of connections. Getting you to privately meet him wouldn’t have been a hassle."
Jesse quickly shook his head.
"Uncle Daniel already tried. He doesn’t meet anyone privately. Because he’s now old and feeble, he rarely treats people and saves his energy to teach his disciples."
"Zade wants to be his disciple. Unfortunately, he’s a child. Dustin Mercer has a rule of taking in teenagers."
Jett squinted his eyes a little.
"But kids are better efficient and learn better when they’re trained from a young age."
Daniel nodded, "I thought the same. Then I found out something tragic. You see. Each year, two of his disciples hang themselves in their room. Some of them commit suicide by drowning."
"I heard he found out those were children whose parents bought their way into being his disciples. Because their parents wanted them to be geniuses like him, they made them study medicine from a young age."
"So he no longer lets anyone buy their way in and doesn’t accept any child who’s not a teenager yet. I think he believes when he does it like this, the children aren’t pressured and they get to an age where they can decide for themselves."
Zade was temporarily distracted at this moment when he saw Dustin Mercer’s disciples heading into a restaurant.
Taking advantage of this distraction, Jesse shielded the side of his mouth with his palm and whispered to the two men, "Zade has already given up on being one of his disciples for now. Now he just prays Dustin Mercer remains alive until he’s 13."
Jett hummed in understanding.
No wonder he hadn’t heard of this Dustin Mercer before.
"Daddy, I’m hungry." The silence between them only lasted a moment before Keira yawned hungrily.
Daniel promptly took out his wallet, "I’ll take them to eat."
"I want to stay with daddy." Keira refused and held onto Jett tighter.
He was about to tell her they’d be eating together when his phone began ringing in his pocket.
"You’ll eat while daddy takes this call?"
"I will."
"Alright, then."
Hence, Daniel left with the two boys.
Zade led the way, unsurprisingly leading them into the restaurant he had seen the disciples go into.
"You know, if one of them has an accident or can’t make it back with the rest, Dustin Mercer will have no choice, but to take another student to replace him." Jesse suggested out of nowhere.
Daniel didn’t know when he gasped proudly.
The next second, he frowned hard, recalling he was meant to set a good example for them and quickly reprimanded him, "I will pretend not to understand what you’re hinting about, my darling nephew."
"By the way, don’t you find it strange how fast Dustin Mercer disappeared? I know he’s not that old, but disappearing without a trace?"
"His students didn’t also seem to be worried. So this must not be the first time he’s disappearing like that."
As the trio had lunch together, Kelsie was sitting across an unexpected guest, a tight frown on her face.
"What are you doing here?"
The man snorted.
"Yes, Kelsie. My flight was fine. Airsick? No, I’ve found a way to contain my airsickness. And you’ve grown thinner. Do you still refuse to eat?"
Kelsie picked up a pen, pointed it at him and hissed loudly, "Dustin Mercer, you are not welcomed here."
Gritting his teeth in righteous indignation, Dustin Mercer glared at her hard.
"What do you mean? I felt really hot on my way here, so I’ve come for consultations. Dr. Sutton, is this how you talk to all your patients?"
Kelsie parted her lips several times to retort, but ended up clamping it shut each time.
Glad that he had rendered her speechless, he got on his feet to pace around, admiring the office as he did.
"By the way, your office is neat and so white, but the machines are making my ears bleed. And those pills you give people..."
Kelsie interrupted him by sighing helplessly, "Should you really be here?"
He stopped pacing and leaned on the wall behind him, his brows furrowing in irritation, "Hey, stop asking me that. I know I took off suddenly back then, but are you really that unhappy to see me?"
Kelsie stared at him without a word for several seconds before she gave up and leaned back on her seat.
"This has nothing to do with how I feel. Im just looking out for you. Tell me, how long do you plan to stay?"
He childishly whipped his head to the side and huffed.
"Hmph! First it was, ’why did you come?’ Now, you’re asking me how long I plan to stay? I was happy to see you just, but you’ve become such a snotty brat. Forget it. Just pretend you never saw me."
"Do you have no shame? I’m the young one here!"
"That doesn’t mean you get to be this snotty!"
"I’m not being... okay, fine. I apologize. I see you’re fine and healthy, but if you were going to return to Silicone Valley, shouldn’t you have told me?"
"You’re one to talk. I told you to remain abroad earlier this year. You gave birth and I wanted to meet your children, but you stubbornly returned before I got that chance."
"Enough with that. You already sent hundreds of emails cussing me out for leaving. I don’t even care what you came for, just try to keep away from the Sutton family residence."
"Why?"
"Laura engraved the face of the psychologist who chose me instead of her in her heart. You may have clocked 50 this year, but you haven’t changed much. You shouldn’t risk her recognizing you."
