Chapter 163: Chapter 163 Loade, MRI, Another Adler
Eric choked on his saliva while the board members turned to whisper to each other.
But their voices were merely whispers as they spoke with each other.
Craig watched this reaction with utmost satisfaction.
Yes, this is who you elected to lead Adler Group.
No matter what a genius Jett was, he was still a wet behind the ears compared to a grown man like him.
After a while, he clicked his tongue disappointedly, "You’re not saying anything, President. Were you really late to this important meeting simply because you had to make lunch for that woman’s children?"
With his hands clasped on the table, Jett squinted at the screen.
"This meeting was scheduled without my knowledge. Had I known of it earlier, I would’ve gotten up on time to make lunch for them."
Dozens of eyes darted towards him in astonishment, the board members rendered utterly speechless.
Craig grew irritated at his nonchalance on Jett’s face and hissed, "What do you think you’re doing? Do you pretend to have no idea how this can affect Adler Group and what we stand for?!"
At this, Jett’s eyes furrowed slightly. "Mr. Adler, I don’t think I like what you’re trying to insinuate."
"I’m not trying to insinuate anything. I’m simply saying what needs to be said as everyone else seems too scared to do so!" Craig huffed, raising his voice.
"You’re trying to say I should ignore my children..." Jett immediately trailed off, realizing he had slipped.
Kelsie had said she didn’t want to make the triplets public yet. To be exact, she was yet to decide if she wanted them to be part of the Adler family.
Undoubtedly, them coming to light as his children would mean they would be placed under surveillance by the public.
To appear natural and make it look like he had trailed off on purpose, he went silent for a few seconds before speaking up again.
"Yes, my children. If I’m going to be with their mother, it’s only right that I make them my children."
"What kind of spouse would I tell their mother I’ll be if I don’t do these things now that we’re courting? Do you have any idea how difficult it was to get that woman to acknowledge my..."
He trailed off again and groaned inwardly.
Pursing his lips, he continued naturally, "What I’m trying to say is, I plan to be a good father to our children."
"Think about it, if rumors spread that I’m neglecting the children of the woman I’m courting, what do you think the public will say about that?"
Craig pointed a finger at him and snickered, "Getting entangled with such a promiscuous woman is something you never should’ve done to begin with."
"Now you have the bastards of god-knows-who to take care of. As the leader of Adler Group, you should’ve known better!"
The room went dead silent, eyes flickering between Jett and Craig.
This was becoming a family conflict. One many of them were eager to watch unfold.
Jett’s eyes darkened, a storm instantly brewing in them before he lowered his face to the table.
Realizing the mood had shifted and it had everything to do with what he just said, Craig gritted his teeth and lashed out self-righteously at the board members eyeing him from the corner of their eyes.
"Why do you look at me like that? I said what I said! There are hundreds of thousands of women without children in our country."
"Even if it’s a hooker from the club, I doubt any of us would mind, but you just had to go after a woman with children. Really?"
"Jett, I know you’re stubborn, but for once in your life, don’t do what you want and do what you’re supposed to!"
By the time he finished speaking, he was breathing heavily, barely able to catch his breath.
While it seemed he was out of breath since he said so many things in less than a minute, it was actually because Jett hadn’t said a word in reply the entire time.
He didn’t even have his eyes on him.
After a while, Jett pushed his chair backward and got on his feet.
"This meeting is over."
Without another word, he walked towards the door with Eric.
As Eric pulled open the door, Jett paused and glanced behind his shoulders.
"Mr. Adler, the next time you say such things about them, I’ll not only make sure you never set foot into this room, but I’ll also make sure you never set foot into any establishment the Adler Group has influence over."
Craig clenched his jaw tightly and gulped down.
Tugging his tie loose, he parted his lips to say response, but nothing other than air came out.
Not only did his throat go dry, he was also too scared to say anything.
Jett then walked out of the conference room. A moment later, the board members also did the same.
Once he was seated behind his desk, he asked Eric, "Are you yet to find the men who attacked Ms. Sutton and I the other day?"
Eric shook his head in refusal.
"Because they chewed out their fingernails and shot each other in the face before they were found, it is taking longer to find them."
"But last week, I opted to find them through the tattoos on their back and the people I hired got back to me on our way to Adler Group. Those men belonged to a prison gang."
Jett’s eyes gleamed in amusement.
"Craig seems to have gotten a lot clever. However, it’s impossible to do something like that without my knowledge."
Eric reached for his phone, tapped on it for a moment before he took it to Jett, the gang’s tattoo sprawled across his screen.
"The gang is named Los Vibora and they operate anywhere and everywhere in our country and continent."
"But their leader, Rafa Valdera, is in prison. He has 7 murder charges on him, hence his life imprisonment and he’s been there for the past 19 years."
"Where is he imprisoned?" Jett questioned, returning the phone to Eric.
Slipping it into his pocket, he answered, "Loade. It’s also where he’s from and where he founded his gang. How do I proceed?"
Jett didn’t think too long before ordering, "Send a dozen people to Loade. It’s paramount to know why a men I’ve never heard of or offended before wants my head so badly."
"Yes, sir." Eric then turned around and left the office.
Once alone, Jett began flipping through the dozens of paperworks on his desk.
As this was going on, Kelsie was rounding up her third surgery for the morning.
"Can you close her up?" She asked, pausing for a split-second to glance at the intern beside her.
The intern hurriedly nodded.
"Yes, doctor."
Hence, she got up for the intern and left the operating room.
As she returned to her office, Holly, who was behind the desk, handed her a brain scan.
"Dr. Sutton, while you were in the operating room, Serbian Howard requested for an MRI and asked for you to be his surgeon."
Kelsie stopped and leaned on the reception desk, running her eyes through the brain scan.
After a while, she exhaled softly and turned around to leave, but someone suddenly blocked her path.
She raised her eyes to see who it was, brows perking up in surprise when she saw one of the senior doctors from the disciplinary hearing.
"Doctor?"
The doctor, however, just scoffed and tossed the medical report he held on the table.
"That’s the medical report of a VIP patient who’ll be in your care from now on."
Kelsie said nothing and quietly reached for the report.
Flipping through it, she failed to hide her surprise seeing so many health complications.
"What is it? Does Haven Medical Center’s best doctor not think she can handle a patient like him?"
Without looking up at him, Kelsie shrugged slightly, "My surgery success rate is 100 percent. No surgery has ever gone wrong and no one has ever died."
The middle-aged man frowned hard.
"Are bragging to me right now, Dr. Sutton?"
Despite shaking her head in response, Kelsie’s words said otherwise.
"Not at all. I’m just letting you know I intend to add his successful surgery to it if the need arises."
"I’ve come to know, in a hard way, that the higher the number of successful surgeries, the harder it becomes to replace a doctor and the more valuable they become to everyone. It also comes with a high pay-grade."
"You’re so full of yourself, aren’t you?" Long displeased with Kelsie, the man was already fuming hard by the time she was done talking.
"My apologies if that is the impression I’ve given you, but who’s this VIP patient I’m supposed to take care of until his doctor returns?"
However, she raised her eyes to see the man was long gone.
"That would be..." Holly took a peek at the report, inputted it on the computer and sucked in a deep breath seeing a familiar name pop up.
"Mr. Adler. Your patient is Jack Adler."
