Chapter 162: Chapter 162 Raising The Children Of ‘Another’ Man?

"What?" Deborah grimaced, sucking in a deep breath.

In front of her, Laura recoiled in fear, but she still shrieked sturbbornoy, "Hey! Who do you think you are to hit me?"

"Don’t be obnoxious! It’s not like I made up anything I said. Your children really are bas..."

Jett’s darkened, but before he could react...

Smack!

Kelsie slapped Laura again, pressing her lips into a tight frown.

"Bastards? Why should they be called something so foul for something that isn’t their fault?"

"I wasn’t going to do anything today so your big day could go well, but if you call them that one more time, I’ll show you just how obnoxious I can be!"

"Still, you shouldn’t hit me. I didn’t do anything wrong." Exhaling shakily, Laura’s eyes flickered towards her parents, "Mother, father, don’t just stand there and do nothing as this crazy wench hits me!"

"Why does she get to hit me when I’m not the one who got pregnant and gave birth to..." She suddenly flinched and instinctively dodged backward when Kelsie moved her hand.

From the side, Jerry simply watched the scene unfold without a word.

How could he say anything when he was yet to understand what was going on?

The intention earlier was to dismantle whatever friendship Jett and Kelsie had going on.

He felt bringing up her promiscuous past would force Jett to take a step backward in order to preserve his reputation.

However, that didn’t seem to be the case.

As he deliberated on what to do, Deborah anxiously fought to get past Jett.

"With all due respect, Mr. Adler, please get out of my way this instant!"

Jett, however, shook his head in refusal, a genuine polite smile on his face.

"Don’t be in such a haste, Mrs. Sutton. Whatever’s going on, I’m sure your older daughter has it under control."

Deborah frowned deeply.

"Under control? She’s cruelly hitting her little sister in public, that is not her being under control!"

"If I... if I as her mother let her do this without any repercussion, she would think it’s fine to bully her little sister whenever and wherever she pleases. No one knows better than me how that twisted mind of hers works!"

At the moment, Deborah really looked like a worried mother who wanted nothing else than for her two daughters to be on good terms.

The mixed emotions of anger and anxiety on her face was something every mother in the room could relate to.

Realizing this, Jett knew it was only a matter of time before they butted in. When that happens, he’d surely be forced out of the way.

In that case...

"There’s no need for Mr. Adler to get out of your way. I’ll be leaving now." Kelsie’s voice broke into his thoughts.

She paused to glance at the enraged Laura before continuing, "The party is good, Laura, but it could be better."

"Next time just hire a clown instead of doing the job yourself. I hope you sleep well and reflect on your behaviors bed tonight. Good night."

The guests watched in disbelief as she turned and began strutting away like she hadn’t just ruined the party for everyone.

Now that she was not an arm-reach away, Laura finally found her courage to holler threateningly, "Wench, how dare you lay your hands on me? Do you think I’ll let you off just because you’re my sister?"

"Wait and see! I’ll repay you for this! I’ll repay you for doing this in three folds, I assure you!"

Kelsie didn’t stop to acknowledge her and just continued walking until she was out of the house.

Ten seconds later, the room was still in standstill silence.

Eric checked the time and walked towards Jett.

He whispered something into his ears and a second later, Jett turned towards Jerry.

"I’ll be taking my leave now. I still have work to complete at the office."

Jerry nodded in understanding, "Sure, Mr. Adler. Let’s have lunch one of these days, what do you think?"

Jett briefly glanced at Eric, "What is my schedule like? Do you think I can squeeze in lunch with Mr. Sutton?"

"Not at all, but you’ll be less busy seven months from now on a friday. Is that fine with you, Mr. Sutton?" Eric retorted stoically, eyes settling on Jerry’s face.

"Seven months from now... on a friday? I mean, sure. I don’t see why not." Jerry was taken aback by Eric’s response and spluttered for a moment.

Jett immediately agreed, "I’ll put you on schedule then. Hopefully, something more important doesn’t come up that day."

Afterward, he turned to leave with Eric.

As he watched them go out the door, Jerry couldn’t wrap his fingers around why he felt like he had just been turned down.

But on the other hand...

No, it was totally natural for businessmen to be busy everyday. Especially, businessmen like Jett Adler.

He was the head of a conglomerate after all.

As he consoled himself with that, he turned to see his wife and daughter were nowhere to be found.

But most importantly, the guests were still standing around in silence.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please forgive this brief disturbance and carry on like nothing happened." He then towards the DJ, "This is a party not a funeral. Turn on the music!"

As soon as the music was up, many people danced their way into the dance floor, acting like they hadn’t heard anything while those who couldn’t keep their mouths shut, gathered around in a corner to discuss and speculate about what they had just heard.

That night, Kelsie immediately put what happened to the back of her mind and played Keira’s board game with Jesse before retiring to bed.

For the next three days, she met neither of the Reynolds twins at the hospital. The Sutton family didn’t come to her either.

However, a certain man had made it a habit to wait for her after work everyday.

He would also watch the triplets from his car in the parking lot every morning without getting close.

On tuesday of the following week, by 7:15am, Kelsie dressed up Zade and Keira for school, but Jesse insisted he wanted to go too.

So she took a look at his wounds and after seeing they were healing up nicely, she accepted under the condition that he didn’t do anything like running.

"We have physical exercise today. Yesterday, a female teacher went on and on about how every student is mandated to participate." Keira suddenly butted in.

Kelsie glanced at her, chuckling softly.

"Mommy will have a talk with your school before going to work. They have to exempt your brother so his injuries doesn’t strain and tear open again."

Keira hummed and said nothing else.

Five minutes later, Kelsie was walking them out.

"Wait, hold up!" A familiar voice suddenly called out as the triplets went into the backseat of the Porsche.

Jesse and Zade were already in, while Keira paused to look behind her.

Jett Adler hurried towards them in a black apron tied around his white shirt, holding up three expensive-looking three steps lunchboxes.

Kelsie’s eyes widened in surprise when he shoved the ropes into her hand.

"The pink one’s for Keira and the blues’ are for Jesse and Zade."

She first admired the boxes before saying the obvious, "They have food."

In response, he directly reached into the backseat and took out the lunchboxes there, handing it to Eric who suddenly appeared from nowhere.

Absentmindedly taking them, Eric stared into the car, jaw dropping the moment his eyes settled on each of the triplets.

But unlike the first thing others noticed, he suddenly blurted out, "I swear that little brat Daniel used to look like that!"

Jett promptly glared him, "Hey, watch your language, will you?"

He pursed his lips and lowered his eyes in apology. "Forgive me, sir."

At the same time, Kelsie and Jett simultaneously looked at Zade, suddenly realizing the stark resemblance between him and Daniel.

After a while, Jett lowered his eyes to Keira whose eyes were shimmering brightly as she looked up at him.

Lowering himself to her level, he returned her smile, "Good bye now. Have a good day at school."

Keira’s cheeks naturally stretched into a bright smile, but she seemed to recall something and frowned again.

Then she got into the car and jammed the door close, much to everyone’s surprise.

Keira wasn’t one to have an attitude, so Kelsie shook her head slightly.

"I don’t know what you did to her, but just so you know, she holds quite a grudge."

Then she got into the car and drove out with them.

Three seconds later, Jett’s cheeks slowly stretched into a sheepish smile.

"Sir, your meeting with the board commenced 30 minutes ago." Eric’s next words successfully ruined the nice moment he was having.

Jett first glared at him before he asked, puzzled, "I had a meeting with them?"

"I wasn’t joking when I said you won’t be free for the next seven months."

"What? That wasn’t you trying to make it impossible to meet with Jerry Sutton?"

"Uh, no. I was being serious."

Jett stared at him speechlessly for several seconds before he turned and rushed into the building again.

45 minutes later, he was in Adler Group, in the midst of the company’s irked board members.

Today, Boyce Adler wasn’t the one in attendance. It was Craig. And he seemed to be waiting for Jett.

As soon as Jett took his seat, Craig tapped his watch twice, "No offense, but we’ve been waiting for over an hour."

Jett crossed his leg on the other and hummed,

"I had something more important to take care of. Plus, I’m here now. So what is this meeting about? I don’t remember calling it."

Craig scoffed, and got on his foot.

Having everyone’s eyes on him, he walked to stand in front of the projector.

"As the president of Adler Group, one would expect you’d know when things are off with the company. But that will be for another day."

"For now, let’s focus on the most impact. It has just come to our notice that you’re courting a woman with three children."

Jett tucked in his chin, eyes pinned on Craig’s face, "Yes, why? Do you have a problem with that?"

Craig sighed in disbelief and picked up the projector’s remote, turning it on to reveal a live coverage of the company’s stock.

"The negative impact on Adler Group will be great, but what concerns us the most is if you’ll continue leading the company just as before."

Jett’s eyes grew blank.

"The point you’re trying to make, be concise."

"You had a more important issue to attend to, that’s why you said you were running late, not so?"

"By any means, does that important issue have anything to do with you making lunch for the children of this woman?"

Following this question was a photo of this morning when he handed the lunchboxes to Kelsie, in an apron.
