Chapter 129: Chapter 129 Being Followed

Once they got to the hospital, Kelsie got her car keys from the office and drove to pick her children from school.

After dropping them at home, she headed to the hospital again. But along the way, a blue BMW kept popping into her rear view mirror.

Instead of turning towards the direction of the hospital, she turned towards the direction of the city.

The BMW turned with her. Not fully convinced she was being followed, she stepped on the brakes, slowing down to allow the car drive past her, only for it to slow down as well.

That was when she confirmed she was being followed. Her eyes fell on the numbers on the licence plate only to see the numbers had been scratched out.

Now that she was closer to the car, she could see the thick tinted windows and windscreen.

While it wasn’t abnormal for a civilian with nothing to hide to have such tinted windows and windscreens, it becomes suspicious when that civilian has his licence plate number scratched out.

A call from the hospital came in at this moment.

She answered and pressed the phone against her ear while her other hand remained on the steering wheel.

"Dr. Sutton, one of your patient is awake and is asking for you."

"Have you checked if everything is fine with the patient?"

"Yes. She doesn’t feel pain on the operation spot and there’s no sign of infection. Her vitals are also fine."

"So what’s the problem then?"

"According to her, this has nothing to do with her operation. She just wants to speak with you about a personal matter."

Kelsie glanced at the time on her phone, her eyes simultaneously returning to the rear view mirror.

"Thirty minutes. Tell her I’ll be back at the hospital in thirty minutes."

"Okay, doctor."

As soon as the call ended, Kelsie accelerated and the car behind her promptly did the same.

She drove for three minutes before she braked and parked in the middle of a somewhat lonely road with bushes on both sides.

Then she alighted from it, walked to the front and popped open the hood, holding it open with a hood support rod.

Afterwards, she slowly moved to the side, sticking out her phone a little with her camera app opened.

Just like she expected, the BMW stopped a few meters away from her and two hefty men alighted from it.

They covered the lower part of their face with their palm as they glanced around in search of possible cameras.

When they didn’t see any, they lowered their hand, picked up a bag from inside the car began strutting towards Kelsie’s car.

But just as they were about to close in on her, a basketball bat suddenly flew out of nowhere, slamming into the back of one of them.

Kelsie paused in surprise, then stuck out her head to see who it was. However, the men’s huge body blocked her line of sight.

The man who was hit, picked up the bat and slowly turned around to see who it was.

A woman they found unfamiliar stood right in front of the BMW. When she saw she had miscalculated and her bat didn’t do any damage, she chuckled nervously and began retreating backward.

"You two, I don’t know who you are, but stop following my team leader!"

Kelsie grimaced slightly, stepped into the road when the voice registered in her head.

Zoe Derruci saw her and waved nervously.

"Team leader, hurry up and run! These bad men have been following you from the intersection up in front."

Kelsie was instantly taken aback.

"You followed me because of them?"

She nodded.

"It didn’t seem like you knew they were following so I decided to follow in order to alert you."

Kelsie mentally face-palmed herself at this foolish bravery.

"Do you have no awareness for your safety? How could you follow such dangerous men because you thought they were following me?"

Zoe blinked, but still nodded.

"I just wanted to alert you to them."

Kelsie scoffed.

"Is that so? What if I had lost them along the way and they found out you were onto them and grabbed you instead?"

Zoe’s eyes fell slightly.

"That is a possibility? I didn’t think that far."

Kelsie was silent for a moment before she craned her neck to look at the BMW.

"Do they have a driver? Did they leave their key in?"

Fortunately, they had left the window to the drivers’s seat wound down a little. So Zoe rushed to peep in. A second later, she gave Kelsie’s a thumb up.

"There’s no driver and I see a key."

Kelsie picked up a big stone beside her and targeted it at the back of one of the men’s head.

She had thrown the stone with all her might. Hence, it injured the back of his head, angering him and temporarily taking his attention from Zoe to her again.

"We’ll deal with that bitch later. For now, just grab the wench we came for!"

As they turned around and began heading towards her again, she slipped a hand into her pocket and casually waved at Zoe.

"Get into the car."

The men halted in confusion.

What exactly was going on?

This woman had no iota of fear on her face. And instead of telling her friend to run, she was asking her to get into the car. For what exactly? To make their job easier?

They were still perplexed when Kelsie suddenly covered the hood of her car and slipped into the driver’s seat.

It happened so fast, but the two women actually drove past them.

But while Zoe kept on driving, Kelsie braked and drove back.

She stopped beside them, wound down her window and asked stoically, "I’m only going to ask once; who sent you?"

One of them parted his lips to say something, but she abruptly cut him off, "Pedestrains being run down by cars isn’t common here in Silicone Valley, but it does happen. Don’t turn yourselves into one of the many cold cases we have today."

The man slowly clamped his mouth shut.

But the next second, he stretched his arm into the car, snickering in contempt. "Hey, who do you think you are? If anyone’s going to be run down here by a car, that person is sure as hell going to be..."

His arm was completely in when Kelsie suddenly stepped on the accelerator, pulling him with her as she drove off.

She only drove for a few seconds before the man fell off, groaning painfully as his body fell hard on the tarred road.

But that didn’t stop her. She braked, put the car in reverse and stepped on the accelerator again.

Upon seeing this, his colleague instantly had a hunch of what was about to happen and fled while the man on the ground was horrified and screamed out in horror.

"I’ll tell you who sent me! I’ll freaking tell you who sent me!"

She braked almost immediately, threw her head outside the window and flashed him a cold smile.

"Here I was thinking of which flowers I’d take to your funeral."

The man met her gleaming eyes and swallowed hard.

This crazy woman. So she really planned to run him over. fre ewe bnove l.com

She lazily hung her arm outside the door and sighed impatiently.

"My patience is running thin again. If I step on the brakes a second time, no amount of screaming will get me to stop."

The man slowly sat up and glared hard at her.

"You crazy wench! Do you think you’re in a lawless country? If anything happens to me, you’ll be spending the rest of your life in prison!"

Kelsie gazed at him with mockery.

"That can only happen if they find proof I did it. Now stop talking about such nonsense before I lose the rest of my patience!"

But the man didn’t budge.

He only held his twisted arm and continued glaring hard at her.

He was daring her.

"What? You really think I won’t do it? Just to be clear, injuring you just enough to make you unable to leave this road isn’t murder."

"Whether you bleed out and die here or get attacked by robbers who think you have some valuables on you, still isn’t me murdering you."

Then she went inside the car again.

But sensing that she’d really do it this time, he divulged through clenched teeth, "I don’t know who he was. I spoke with him on the phone, but the person who referred him to me said he’s a member of a powerful family."

"Now it’s up to you to think of which person from a powerful family you’ve wronged so much that he wants you abducted!"

Kelsie was quiet. A few seconds later, he heard the car engine starting again and shuddered.

"What... what do you think you’re doing? I told you what you asked for alre..."

He abruptly trailed off and exhaled in relief when the car drove forward, quickly disappearing into a corner.

Meanwhile, in the apartment building, inside the apartment on floor 49, Jesse’s brows knitted into a tight frown when he saw the photo in the group chat.

"Is this photoshop? I didn’t know mommy and daddy have gotten this close." Keira couldn’t hide the joy in her voice as she zoomed in on the photo.

Zade smacked his lips and chuckled.

"It doesn’t look like photoshop. I was afraid mommy and daddy will grow estranged once we start school and won’t have any time to scheme for them to meet. But it’s working out just fine."

"Jesse, don’t you think we’re close to accomplishing what we’ve been planning all these..." Keira slowly trailed off when she raised her eyes and didn’t Jesse in the room. "Where did he go?"

Although finding it weird, she quickly forgot about him and lowered her eyes back to her phone, zooming in on the photo again.

Inside the elevator, Jesse continued staring at the photo, impatiently waiting to be taken to floor 50.
