Chapter 122: Chapter 122 Jett Adler’s Confession

The businessmen glanced at each other in silence, biting their lower lips as they tried to suppress their laughter.

A moment later, they couldn’t hold it in any longer and erupted into fits of laughter.

Naturally, they didn’t take his words seriously, assuming he was teasing Jett as well.

Boyd, aware they weren’t taking him seriously, beckoned onto one of the waiters.

Pointing towards Kelsie with his eyes, he didn’t bother to reduce the volume of his voice as he said, "That beautiful lady over there. She’s the only person sitting alone in this big place. Do you see her?"

"I do, sir."

"Good. Go get her for me."

The waiter nodded and turned to leave. But halted almost immediately when the man sitting across from Boyd snorted coldly.

"Why should he?"

The laughter at the table instantly died down as the businessmen who hadn’t heard Boyd’s order to the waiter glanced at the two men in confusion.

Boyd snickered in response, "Why shouldn’t he? I’m the one sending him."

Jett ignored him and casually waved his hand at the waiter, dismissing him, "Return back to your post."

The waiter didn’t think too much about it and nodded, turning around to leave, but froze in fear when Boyd snapped at him enraged, "What do you think you’re doing? He’s not the one who called you, so why listen to him?"

The waiter clenched his jaw tightly, releasing the air he didn’t know he was holding as he suddenly realized the dangerous situation he was in.

He recognized Boyd Rowland, the owner of an exotic perfume brand. He was a millionaire with several branches all over Silicone Valley and the country as a whole.

There were also rumors of him planning to open branches in neighboring countries.

Needless to say, he was an international businessman. One an unknown person like him couldn’t afford to offend.

On the other hand, this man he didn’t recognize was outrightly challenging such an important person.

It was one of two things; either this man was someone more formidable or he was just stupid.

But in this situation, he knew the former was the case.

The realization that he would be in trouble no matter what he did instantly dawned on him, causing him break out in cold sweat.

Beside him, Jett’s eyes darkened slightly and he spat out icily, "Mr. Rowland, he has work to do. If his pay gets docked because of you, will you pay him instead?"

At this, the corners of Boyd’s lips spasmed in annoyance.

He had long known Jett looked down on him and cursed him in his mind for it.

Unlike Jett who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he came from an average family and single-handedly became a millionaire.

He even had more money than some families who were better off than him before. So how dare this runt degrade him in public like this!

Seething with rage, he lashed out at him in irritation, "It seems you’ve forgotten who I am, Mr. Adler."

"I may not have as much money as your family, but I can pretty much afford anything and everything that you can."

"How much is his miserly pay that I can’t give him? I’ll even give him ten times of it if I feel like it!"

While the man was literally yelling at him, Jett remained nonchalant.

"Don’t twist my words, Mr. Rowland. I wasn’t asking if you’re rich enough to fill his docked pay, but I’m glad that you know the right thing to do."

"However, that lady you’re sending him to is not an up-and-coming actress. She’s not even in the entertainment industry and I’m quite sure she came with someone."

The corners of Boyd’s lips slowly hooked up into a knowing smile as he retorted, now calm, "I don’t remember asking you that, Mr. Adler. Isn’t it obvious I don’t care about who she came with?"

"And forget it. You can stop the waiter from going to her, but you can’t stop me from making a move on..."

As he spoke, he got up on his feet and Jett did the same.

At a table with a few other actresses, Lila Reed suddenly shot up from her seat when she saw Jett get up.

He was one to leave functions and events early and she had made the mistake of taking her eyes off him numerous times in the past.

She had made up her mind to make a move on him today. So she had her eyes on him the entire time.

Without a second thought, she rushed to his side, interlocking her arm with his as she asked in a shy voice, "Are you leaving already, Mr. Adler?"

A lot of things had been happening at this table.

First, were the two influential men who seemed to be in an arguement.

It was a sight many of them were used to. Businessmen usually disagreed with each other on many topics. So Boyd’s yelling earlier only captured their attention for a split-second.

But seeing a famous actress interlock arms with a man was certainly something that caught their attention.

Especially for the women who were getting tired of waiting for something interesting to happen.

Every woman who could see what was happening had their eyes on the duo, except a certain person who was engrossed in a recommended game she had seen online.

Realizing they had people’s attention, Boyd suddenly grinned wickedly.

"Finally, Ms. Reed! Finally, we meet the man after your heart. He’s the one you often speak

about in those interviews, isn’t he?"

Lila Reed had no intention to refute his words nor did she plan to give a straightforward answer. After all, she was a famous actress with a pristine reputation to uphold.

Not saying a word, she shyly tucked the lose strand of hair blocking her sight behind her ear, grinning from ear-to-ear.

At this, some actresses with the intention to get into Lila’s good books walked up to the businessmen’s table, answering in her behalf.

"Lila and Mr. Adler are just friends."

"People say they’re in a secret relationship as she was the model for his company sometime in the past."

"And we all know Mr. Adler is picky with the people he works with. But ever since he worked with Lila, she keeps getting called back by his company."

"Don’t get this wrong. It’s not because of their relationship. It’s because of how talented she is. We all know how Mr. Adler likes to keep talented people around him."

A throaty laughter escaped Boyd’s lungs the moment the last person finished her sentence.

As everyone’s attention shifted to him, he gradually stopped laughing.

Feeling the side of his lips with his fingers, he returned his eyes to Lila Reed, assuring her,, "You don’t have to lie to us. There are no paparazzi or reporters here."

"So you can be rest assured no one outside these walls will hear it if you admit that you two are in a relationship."

At this point, those around couldn’t help chipping in their thoughts.

"You’re both so inlove wiht each other, yet you lie to our very faces. Mr. Adler does a good job at keeping it private, but you even go as far as saying those things during your interviews."

"What was that you said last time? You totally described a man of Mr. Adler’s height, his build, you said your man had blue eyes and most importantly, he was a very important man in the country."

"In case you haven’t noticed, Ms. Reed, not a lot of men fit those detailed descriptions you gave."

Hearing the last person, Boyd quickly shook his head in disapproval, "There’s no man who matches that description except one person and we all know who that is. Now that it has come to this, don’t you think it’s time to fess up?"

Probing eyes instantly darted towards Lila.

However, she merely smiled and outrightly denied everything, saying, "Everything I’ve said so far in interviews are mostly scripted."

"My agency saw how the netizens loved to ship us together. So they asked me to make my interviews about an imaginary man who looked exactly like Mr. Adler."

"The rumors about us being in a relationship are just rumors. Although, I hope to have a better relationship with Mr. Adler in the future."

Her words were vague, yet very misleading. Boyd didn’t expect anything less from an actress like her.

Jett hadn’t said a word this entire time and she had properly structured her sentence in such a way he or anyone else couldn’t nitpick.

The guests sighed inwardly.

This source of entertainment had died down way too quickly.

What were they supposed to do with the rest of their time now?

Just as they turned their eyes away, the man who hadn’t said anything the whole time suddenly pried Lila’s arm away, his brows furrowing into a hard frown.

"Who are you and what do you think you’re doing?"

Lila was instantly taken aback and rendered speechless.

While the guests’ abruptly returned their attention to the duo, eyes eagerly lighting up.

Eric strolled towards Jett to hand him a hand sanitizer.

After waiting several seconds for Lila to respond, Jett’s frown deepened.

"I don’t know who you are, so I know I’m not in the position to advice you, but don’t go around holding people’s arms unless you’re familiar with them."

Then he strutted towards the woman sitting alone.

Kelsie felt people’s heated eyes on her all of a sudden and promptly raised her eyes to see Jett walking to stand beside her.

Ignoring the confused look on her face, he continued, "Now, I have no idea what you’re all talking about, but I want you to know I already have someone I like."
