Chapter 121: Chapter 121 A Certain Brooding Man
"Mr. Adler, you didn’t come with a partner, but you’re with that many flowers, who do you plan to give them to?"
"Is it true you’ve been dating an actress in secret, but have kept your relationship private to protect her from scandals?"
"A name. Just give us a name. It doesn’t have to be the full name!"
"A hint works too. Just a small hint and we’ll connect the rest on our own!"
"Say something, Mr. Adler!"
While the paparazzi and reporters hungrily threw questions at him, Jett stood like a statue in front of them, his eyes surveying the cars behind his.
Standing protectively in front of his boss, Eric held the plastic flowers in one hand and shoved away everyone trying to get in his space.
One of the reporters noticed Jett’s wandering eyes and realized something.
"Mr. Adler, are you looking for someone? Did you come separately with your date to avoid a scandal breaking out?"
The other reporters, although having no idea what the first reporter had noticed, eagerly threw their own questions at him.
"So it is true you’ve been dating an actress in secret. It’s Lila Reed, isn’t it?"
"There has been rumors that you’re into men. Don’t you think this is your chance to clear those rumors? All you have to do is give a yes or no answer to any of our questions."
However, Jett gave up trying to find Callum Shaw’s car, returning his attention to his front.
Yesterday, the doctor had left the clothing store early, so he wasn’t able to see what his car looked like.
But even if he did, Callum was a reputable doctor who might have more than one car. The possibility that he’d bring the same car to a function like this was highly unlikely.
Furthermore, the duo could’ve arrived already and taken their seat inside.
With that thought, he squeezed his way through the restless paparazzi until he was in front of the building.
Guards had been placed there to keep uninvited people away.
So naturally, the paparazzi following Jett turned around and left when the guards stood in their way.
Shortly after he walked in and Eric returned to drive off his car, the car behind pulled into the space.
Three seconds later, a lady in her 20s wearing a shimmering blue dress with flimsy hands and glitters scantily scattered across her face, alighted from it.
The paparazzi recognized her at first glance and immediately positioned their cameras to take pictures of her.
While she was still posing for the cameras, her driver drove the car away and Callum Shaw’s car pulled in.
Callum alighted from the car, hurrying to the other side to open the door for Kelsie.
However, Kelsie had already alighted on her own.
Getting to her, he naturally extended his left arm towards her to hold onto.
As soon as she turned towards the paparazzi, some of the cameras instantly shifted from the Lila Reed’s side.
"Who’s that? Is she a new actress or model?"
"I don’t recognize the man with her. She must be new to the industry."
"She has such a beautiful face, how is it I’ve never heard or seen her before?"
"Who cares? Just take as much pictures as you can. I have a feeling the netizens will gobble them up!"
Lila was quick to realize the attention had shifted from her and followed everyone’s eyes to see who they were looking at.
However, she was on the same side as Callum. So while she could see him clearly, the man’s body completely shielded Kelsie from her view.
Once they got close to the building, the paparazzi left and Callum turned to Kelsie apologetically.
"It slipped my mind to tell you. This party is also a promotional stunt by the hospital. Hence, the reporters and paparazzi."
"The paparazzi won’t post anything without clearance from the hospital. So don’t you worry, I’ll have them delete your pictures."
Kelsie met his eyes, "Alright."
He flashed her a small smile and turned his eyes to the door in front of him.
"Are you ready to go in?"
She nodded, "Of course."
He nudged his head at the guards who pushed the door open almost immediately.
The duo stepped into the lavishly decorated space, their eyes interrupted from taking in the spectacular decorations as someone hurried to Callum’s side.
They whispered in low voices for several seconds before Callum turned to Kelsie with a grimace, "Forgive me, I have to take care of something. Will you be fine by yourself?"
"Why don’t you stay with my wife until Callum is done?" The man beside Callum suggested almost immediately.
However, Kelsie shook her head in refusal.
"I’ll be fine myself." Then she turned to point at an empty table. "I’ll be there waiting for you."
Any other day, Callum would’ve insisted she stay with other women, but he seemed to be in a hurry and merely flashed her an apologetic smile before rushing off with his colleague.
As soon as they left, Kelsie felt a consistent buzzing from her bag and took out her phone to see several ’desperate’ messages from Keira.
Ten messages of her begging Kelsie to come online then another ten of her doing a ten second count down.
Once she saw Kelsie’s profile light up, meaning she had come online, she quickly sent her a link with the words, "Mommy, Jesse made this test version of the game. I want you to be my first player."
"Play it for a few minutes and tell me what you think. This cutie of yours will be waiting for a review."
A heart emoticon followed shortly after.
Reading the messages, Kelsie didn’t realize when her cheeks stretched into a wide smile as she walked to the table.
But the next second , she raised her eyes with a small frown, feeling a malice-filled gaze being directed at her.
What is this?
The only people she knew to hold something against her were those of the Sutton family and the thugs she beat up the other day to save Serbian Howard.
She was certain she didn’t know anyone here. So there was no way she could’ve wronged any of them. Not even by mistake.
She searched the place with her eyes for several seconds. When she didn’t see anyone, she discarded the feeling to the back of her mind and continued playing the game.
Sitting at a table with a group of businessmen tables away, a pair of blue eyes darkened slightly seeing her smile.
The man had his hands folded across his chest as he squinted his eyes at her, as if doing so would automatically make him see what was making her laugh.
How could she laugh that wide after giving him such a cold shoulder yesterday?
Did she think he had no emotions simply because he didn’t know how to show them properly?
Jett didn’t realize it, but the more he thought about it, the deeper his frown became.
A moment later, one of the businessmen sitting with him, followed his train of sight until they landed on Kelsie.
Then he leaned towards the table to tease him, "I’ve known you for how long now? Over ten years! And never have I seen you stare at a woman that long."
The rest of them at the table glanced at Kelsie as well and chipped in one after the other.
"Mr. Adler sure has good eyes. She’s so far away I didn’t see her come in, but you spotted her right away."
"She’s alone. She should be one of those up-and-coming actresses who hear of functions like this and make it their aim to attend to find someone wealthy and influential to back them."
"You’re right. Do you want her, Mr. Adler? Say the word and I’ll have her brought to you at once!"
Jett, however, didn’t seem to hear a word they said as Kelsie’s smile every ten seconds kept rattling him.
While her smile was out of sheer admiration for the game, the man mistook it for something else and grew even moodier.
Boyd Rowland, one of the businessmen who had lost a bet to Jett during the hacking contest when Kelsie and her team won, disinterestedly glanced behind him as well expecting to see a typical up-and-coming actress.
He had committed Kelsie’s looks to memory once the contest ended to remind himself never to underestimate her when next they happened to cross paths.
So he recognized her at first glance.
When he saw Jett wasn’t responding to any of the flatteries because his eyes were pinned on her, a cunning smile tugged the corners of his lips as he sighed softly.
"I’ve not heard of Mr. Adler being involved with a woman before. Not because he can’t, but because he doesn’t feel attracted to them."
"This conservative man isn’t looking at her with the intention you all have in mind. On the other hand, she’s totally my type."
