Chapter 116: Chapter 116 Mr. Adler, Isn’t He The Owner Of The Apartment Building?

The noise stopped instantly.

The second salesperson’s face turned ugly.

The burly man and his girlfriend turned to the store manager in confusion.

"What did you just say?"

Nicholas Walsh turned to him in irritation.

"Why are you so noisy? If you’re not buying anything, show yourself out."

His words enraged the burly man, but recalling Nicholas was superior to him, he suppressed his anger and turned to point a shaky finger at Kelsie and Jett.

"Did you make a mistake, Manager Walsh? Didn’t you hear your salesperson say these two are likely swindlers?"

At this, Nicholas Walsh’s nostrils flared up in anger.

"Swindlers?" He scoffed, paused and looked the man over, "If there’s anyone who could be a swindler, it’s you!"

"Have you gone mad? I dare you to repeat what you just said!" The burly man’s girlfriend quickly jumped forward to defend him.

Nicholas directly ignored her and took out his phone to call the store’s security.

Seeing this, the burly man laughed in anger.

"What? You’re calling the security on us when we just tried to warn you about your store getting robbed? Is this how you treat customers?"

The person being accused of being a swindler was rather calm.

Instead of facing them, he turned to Kelsie to attack her.

"Did you hear that? Despite hearing Manager Walsh call my name, he still insists we’re swindlers. Whose fault do you think that is?"

Kelsie paused and turned to glare hard at him.

"What are you trying to say? That it’s my fault?"

"Of course! Whose fault could it be? If you didn’t wear a sweatpant and a tank top to come to a clothing store, i wouldn’t be getting accused like this!"

"What nonsense see you spewing? Who doesn’t know swindlers go around dressed in expensive suits and clothes to fool people!"

"Oh, really? If the suit was the problem, why were you already getting accused of being a swindler even before I got there?"

"Isn’t it obvious? This lady wanted my dress and didn’t care what she had to say to get it. Aren’t you intelligent enough to know that?"

"Are you calling me dumb?"

"Misinterpreting my words is what you do best, Mr. Adler, so I no longer care!"

Jett relaxed his hand and turned to Nicholas Walsh.

"Tell me the truth, didn’t she use fancy words to call me dumb just now?"

Kelsie’s eyes darted to him as well, nodding in agreement as she leaned forward.

"Manager Walsh, go ahead and tell him the truth."

Nicholas batted his eyelids, clenching his jaw tightly in surprise.

The boss he knew never said more than one line to him unless it was really necessary, but he was actually bickering with someone.

A woman at that.

Could it be this was the woman his boss was seeing in secret?

Not even his younger brother could bicker with him like this. So could that be the case?

As he pondered this in his mind, Jett was getting impatient at his lack of reponse and Kelsie leaned back on her seat smugly.

Unable to wait any longer, Jett sneered, "What is taking you so long? Are you afraid to say the truth?"

Kelsie retorted in his stead, "Don’t shout at him. Can’t you see he’s scared? He’s clearly going to say I didn’t call you dumb, but is scared that you’d lash out at him."

Jett sucked in a deep breath and narrowed his eyes at Nicholas, saying nonchalantly, "Hey, is that the truth? When have I ever lashed out at you? I’m a rather nice boss, aren’t I?"

Nicholas raised his eyes to look at him, grimacing slightly.

What? Nice?

Indeed, he was nice when it came to the generous pay and conducive environment he gave his staffs.

But in other aspects, Nicholas visibly shuddered, recalling the one time he had lost the new dress from a popular brand to a rival clothing store.

Jett hadn’t said a word that day. He didn’t even fume when he made it to the store. But

the silence choked him for weeks.

It was at this moment that the voices of the security calling out to him drew him out of his reverie.

"Ms. Walsh, who are we removing from the premises?"

Hearing the brief conversation between the trio had partly convinced the burly man and his girlfriend that the man in front of them was really Jett.

But the other part refused to believe.

How could the manager claim this talkative was the self-reserved Jett Adler? His coldness to people was his most noticeable trait.

It was also the second thing other businessmen hated about him and something everyone knew about.

No, that was impossible.

There’s no way this talkative was the Jett Adler everyone knew.

"Hey, if you don’t want to be robbed in broad daylight, listen to us and take these...what are you doing? Take your filthy hands off me!" The burly man was still insisting when three security men suddenly grabbed him.

However, he was huge and muscular, so he easily fought them off and rushed towards Jett.

Fine.

Since this damn manager wouldn’t listen to him and this man claiming to be Jett Adler was bent on humiliating him, he’d do everyone the favor of beating him up until he confessed!

But he had just gotten to Jett when the man stuck out his foot, swiftly slamming it against his knee. f.re(e) w.e(b)nov el.c.om

He was so fast no one noticed what happened. Not even the man it happened to noticed until he realized he couldn’t go any further.

Confused that his body was refusing to obey him to move forward, he lowered his eyes to see what the problem was only to see the bone at his knee poking out through his pant.

Now that his brain realized what was going on, the pang of pain at having a broken knee instantly hit him and he sauntered backward, screaming at everyone loudly as he gently held his knee.

"What are you doing? Hurry up and take me to the hospital! And call the police to arrest this darn bastard!"

In front of him, Jett sighed and covered his eyes with his fingers, pretending to shudder.

"How did you do that to your knee? I can’t bear to look on any longer. Hurry up and take him out of here, Manager Walsh."

Kelsie, who had clearly seen him do it, was rendered speechless.

This darn con man.

As the burly man and his girlfriend were led out of the display room, the second salesperson instantly realized she had made a grave mistake which could cost her job and dropped to her knees in apology.

"I really didn’t know it was you, Mr. Adler. There are people who impersonate you a lot these days."

Jett had an amused look on his face hearing her as he recalled someone else had told him the exact same thing yesterday.

Without saying a word to her, he took out his phone to make a call.

"I hear they’re a people pretending to be me. Find these people and throw them in prison."

Then he ended the call and stared into the air.

It was at this moment that a man strutted into the display room, sighing apologetically, "Kelsie, forgive me for keeping you waiting. The surgery got a little complicated at the end."

Callum Shaw was a regular at JD Clothing Store. Not only did he always buy suits whenever he came over, but he always bought expensive ones.

Furthermore, he wasn’t like most customers who always made it hard for the salespersons serving them.

Because of these, he often interacted with Nicholas Walsh and even had dinner with him sometimes.

"Mr. Shaw, I didn’t know you were coming."

Callum laughed softly, gently massaging his wrists as he closed the distance between them.

"I’m a VIP customer, do I really need to make a reservation before coming?"

Nicholas nodded in agreement.

"Do you need a new suit made today or will you be going for an already made?"

Callum’s eyes darted to Kelsie who was squinting her eyes at another royal blue dress.

"Have you made a choice already?"

Nicholas naturally followed his train of sight. When they landed on Kelsie, he frowned slightly in confusion.

They knew each other? What was he missing?

"I’m still looking at a few dresses." Kelsie sighed, lifting the dress she dragged with the burly man’s girlfriend. "This dress caught my eyes and I intended to buy it, but Mr. Adler here says it’s of inferior quality."

Hearing only the last part, Callum picked up the dress to feel it.

"It’s indeed pretty, but the quality is quite inferior. Who did you say said it’s inferior?"

Kelsie glanced at the suddenly brooding man beside her.

"Mr. Adler."

Callum also turned to look at him, his brows creasing in surprise as he recognized him at first glance.

"Mr. Adler? Forgive me. I didn’t know you were the one!"

Lowering his now clouded eyes, the man merely hummed in reply, surprising Kelsie.

Where did the sharp tongue go? He was attacking her just now, but he was suddenly quiet now?

Was he feigning seriousness because a man of Callum’s profession was here?

As she wondered the reason for his sudden silence, Callum wasn’t offended by Jett’s cold greeting and took his seat beside Kelsie.

He helped her go through a few dresses before a realization struck him.

"Isn’t Mr. Adler the owner of the apartment building you stay in?"

"Yes, why?" She replied, not sparing him a glance.

Callum went mum for a moment as he took another look at Jett, confirming he was really the person he saw yesterday.

"Yesterday when I answered the door, it was a man who said he lost his way and that man was Mr. Adler."
