Chapter 112: Chapter 112 Daddy, What Is Taking So Long?
Jett stood in front of the door for several seconds before it swung open.
His eyes fell slightly when they landed on the familiar face standing inside.
"Are you looking for Kelsie? She stepped into the room for a moment. Why don’t you come in and wait for her?"
Jett looked the man over.
This was the doctor from Haven Medical Center whom he had mistaken to be Kelsie’s husband initially.
He wasn’t even her husband, so why did she let him come into her apartment? Didn’t she know how dangerous strangers can be?
While he mocked her in his mind, his empty eyes seemed to stare into Callum Shaw’s soul.
Callum waited to hear him say something for several seconds. When he didn’t, he stepped out of the apartment to wave his hand across his face.
It was at this moment that Keira’s impatient voice came from inside, "Daddy, what is taking so long? Isn’t that the delivery person from the restaurant downstairs?"
Callum paused what he was about to do, briefly glancing behind him as he retorted, "No, it isn’t. I think this person came to find your..."
Jett quickly stepped backward, interrupting him, "Wrong floor. I meant to go to floor 48th."
"Oh, okay." Although not convinced, Callum nodded and watched him hurriedly walk into the elevator.
As soon as the doors closed, Kelsie came out of her room, rolling up her sleeves.
She craned her neck slightly seeing him at the door, "Is someone there?"
"He said he came to the wrong floor." He shook his, returning into the apartment.
"The game is getting interesting now, hurry up before I lose interest." Keira impatiently beckoned onto him.
All three of them, including Jesse sat around a board on the carpet, rolling a dice and counting spaces on the board.
It was Jesse’s turn to play. He rolled his dice and counted, but facepalmed himself in frustration when he realized where he was.
"Daddy, don’t you think it’s a little too unfair that I have to pay rent to you?"
Callum shrugged helplessly.
"Don’t look at me, i didn’t make the rules."
Keira giggled softly.
"Stop whining, Jesse. Now it’s up to mommy to decide if she will lend you money or let you be punished since you have no money for rent."
The boy, however, stubbornly folded his arms across his chest and refused to move onto the last space.
"It’s getting on my nerves. I don’t think I like this game."
Keira’s eyes lit up in satisfaction.
"You have no idea how happy I am hearing you say that!" Then she turned to Kelsie and Callum, pouting cutely, "So mommy and uncle, what do you think about this board game I just created?"
Kelsie leaned on the sofa behind her as she replied thoughtfully, "I think it’s similar to a popular board game I know. You could be sued for copyright issues."
"I’ll suggest a few things you could tweak so you won’t have anything to worry about if you’re ever called out in the future."
"Oh, what could I ever do without you mommy!" The little girl exclaimed frantically, blowing her a kiss.
Then she turned her attention to Callum who was smiling broadly at this very cute display.
"So what do you think, uncle?"
"I agree with your mommy." The man immediately said, earning a satisfied smile from her.
Finally, she shifted her attention to a sulking Jesse.
"It’s up to you now, Jesse. Make it into an electronic game people can play on their phones."
"Why should I? I don’t even like the game."
"But I didn’t make it for you, why do you get to refuse because you kept losing?"
"Isn’t that obvious? I refuse to make a game I have no luck in!"
"Hey, don’t be petty and just make the game. Hundreds of thousands of people will play it and like it!"
"No."
She had her hand on his shoulder as she followed him around. When he vigorously shook his body in refusal, he mistakenly shoved her away, sending her falling onto the hard floor.
Almost immediately, Kelsie’s eyes snapped towards them and Jesse promptly threw himself to the space beside her, hugging her tightly to himself as he desperately cooed.
"Don’t cry, I’ll make you the game. Your game is the best game I’ve ever seen. I don’t even care if I keep losing. Please don’t cry."
Keira, whose eyes had filled with tears a second ago, hurriedly locked her pinky with his in a pinky swear, "You promised!"
Jesse was slightly taken aback before his cheeks stretched into a bright smile. "I promise!"
Then they got up and ran to their room together.
An astounded Callum Shaw turned to Kelsie in disbelief.
"I had no idea you have children. You certainly don’t look like you have two children already."
Not raising her eyes to look at him, the woman corrected, "Three. I have three. He’s sleeping in their room."
Callum’s eyes bulged again before he chuckled.
"I always knew you’re impressive. I just didn’t know you were this impressive. Imagine my surprise when I saw a miniature version of you staring me in the face strangely."
Kelsie finally put away her phone and turned to him, asking blandly, "How did you get my address?"
Callum scoffed slightly.
"Didn’t you put it in your application form? I’m a high-ranking doctor in the hospital. I can view stuffs like that."
Only then did she turn away from him, picking up her phone again.
"I see. So why did you come?"
Callum first glared at her before he scoffed irritably.
"Goodness. Always so straight forward. Anyway, I came to ask you to be my partner on a company party we’d be having tomorrow evening."
"It’s held three times a year. This is the last time it’d be held this year, so a lot of people will be in attendance. Sometimes even the company’s founders attend."
Kelsie was naturally not interested in things like this and was about to turn him down when she heard the last part.
Thinking she’d refuse, the man hurriedly added, "I’ve been attending these parties alone all these years. Before you turn me down, look at me and tell me if I don’t look pitiful enough."
Kelsie stared at him for a moment before shaking her head in refusal. "You don’t look pitiful at all, but I’ll go with you. Where and what time is it?"
"What do you mean? I’ve become so anti-social in the past few months that..." He was saying, but paused and broke into a broad smile when he heard the rest of her words.
"The party starts 5pm. I’ll pick you up before then and drive us there."
"What’s the color code?"
"Blue for both men and women. I’ve not gotten a suit yet. I’m getting off work early tomorrow. How about we go shopping by noon?"
"Okay, Dr. Shaw." Kelsie hummed, then raised her eyes to look at him again.
"Have you eaten?"
The man quickly shook his head.
She then turned away from him, saying like it was only naturally, "There’s a restaurant downstairs. Order something to eat there. You can go home when you’re done."
The man was dumbstruck then he hissed and turned away from her.
"Don’t be in such a hurry to chase me away. Didn’t you see your children loves me? This is the first time they’ve met me, but look how they welcomed me with open arms."
"I can’t possibly go home without playing with them a little longer. If you don’t wish to see me, just go into your room and remain there until I leave."
The corners of Kelsie’s lips spasmed, recalling the words Keira whispered to Jesse when she came out of the kitchen earlier to see Callum in the living room.
"This is the first of mommy’s friend bold enough to come to her place. Mommy lacks social skills so we have to treat this uncle well so she doesn’t chase him away like she did to the others."
She had temporarily forgotten how hard they worked to make Callum feel at home.
Exhaling, she agreed with him.
"Alright, fine. Do whatever you want."
Meanwhile upstairs, a certain man was fuming.
"What? Daddy? Her daughter called him daddy, but she still dared to lie that she wasn’t married. That shameless woman!"
He paced to and fro in his room for several seconds before he halted and glanced at the door.
"You’ve been standing there for a while now. What is it?"
Eric’s polite voice came up almost immediately.
"Forgive me for interrupting, sir. Haven Medical Center just called to remind you of their party by 5pm tomorrow."
