Chapter 111: Chapter 111 I’ll Go To Her
Daniel jumped, spurning around in panic, but sighed in relief when he saw Eric Lance.
Placing a hand on his chest to calm his throbbing heart, he eyed him sternly, "How many times have I told you not to sneak up on me like that?"
Eric thinned his lips, lowering his eyes to the floor in apology. "Forgive me. When I saw you mumbling to yourself, I thought there was something wrong."
Daniel raised a suspicious brow, closing the distance between them.
"Is that so? I was just mumbling incoherently? You didn’t get to hear a word I said?"
Eric nodded.
"I was worried something was wrong and came to check up on you. I apologize if I scared you."
Daniel first exhaled again in relief before waving his hand at him dismissively.
"It’s fine. I’m okay. I just have a lot of things keeping me on edge these days. Don’t tell my brother anything."
However, the man didn’t reply prompting Daniel to yank him by the shoulder.
"What? Why aren’t you answering? I’m way too familiar with this format of not answering then when you go telling him my business you’d say you never said you won’t tell him."
"So promise not to tell him now, Eric. If you do, only then can I trust you enough to let you go."
Eric was silent for a moment before he raised his eyes to meet his.
"Your state of mind isn’t something that has ever been at stake. So it’s not a strange sight to see you mumbling to yourself in the middle of the house."
"Even if Mr. Adler hears it from me, he won’t find anything suspicious. Or were you really mumbling something suspicious underneath your breath?" fre/ew.ebnovel.c om
Taking his hand off him like though he had placed it on burning coal, Daniel slipped them into his pocket and turned his face to the side, scoffing lightly.
"What could I possibly be hiding? Forget it. I don’t owe you any explanation to begin with. Go away now. I need to have a brief nap before I join my online classes."
Eric bowed to him then walked past him, heading to the door. But he had just gotten there when the phone in his pocket began ringing.
The distinctive ringtone made him take it out in a hurry.
"Sir?"
"Have you left? Come to my office."
"Yes, sir."
A minute later, he stood in front of Jett with his hands clasped tightly in front of him.
Jett signed on a few papers before he paused to ask him, "Were you able to locate the family of Kennedy Spencer?"
Kenneday Spencer, the first-year who had given Jack Adler the wrong injection which should’ve led to him being in comatose.
He took off immediately, running to Darki where he was stabbed to death by a gang leader.
Eric raised his eyes to glance at him briefly.
"He grew up in an orphanage where he was dropped at the age of 3 months and lived there until he turned 18."
"Physical health?"
"He was a very healthy male. He didn’t even have a girlfriend and lived a very clean life."
"Oh?" A low sigh escaped Jett’s lips at the dead-end he had just encountered.
Eariier in Darki, the gang leader who stabbed Kennedy said he had a bag full of money.
Since he didn’t have a girlfreind, had no family, didn’t owe anyone and most importantly, didn’t have a health condition he had to treat, then why did he do it?
Had Kennedy Spencer not run away, he wouldn’t have been able to induct him no matter how hard he tried.
Not only did he not have a motive for doing what he did, he also had a clean criminal record.
To frame him and make him take the fall would’ve also been extremely difficult. But he ran the moment his grandfather closed his eyes to sleep thinking he had fallen into coma.
Jett dropped his pen, knitting his brows together in a deep frown.
He was missing something. Something very crucial.
What was it?
Just then, he recalled something.
Just before Kennedy died, he whispered something to her.
His eyes instantly snapped towards Eric.
"Kelsie Sutton. What floor is she on and what’s her apartment number?"
"Please give me a moment to ask those in the reception." Eric said, walking to the side to make the call.
A moment later, he returned to where he had been standing, a surprised look in his eyes.
"Kelsie Sutton made a three years deposit for floor 49."
"Floor 49?" Jett repeated in disbelief.
Floor 49?
After he listed it for lease, no one wanted to rent it as they felt the rent was too high for it.
Yet, she didn’t just pay one for one year lease, but three?
Unable to deduce what was going through his boss’ mind, Eric cautiously suggested, "Do you need me to bring her to me?"
The man shook his head, getting on his feet.
"No, I’ll go to hef."
Eric nodded and made to follow him out, but halted when Jett gave him another assignment.
"Look into the people Kennedy Spencer met in the last days of his life. Dig into everything."
Then he left.
In floor 49
After trying to nap all to no avail, Jesse came into the living room to watch television. He stood in front of the plasma looking for a good channel to watch.
Kelsie soon came out of her room to get water and saw him.
"If you’re looking for an educational channel, you won’t find any. Just find one on your monitor and connect it to the television."
Jesse’s eyes lit up at this and he turned to give her a thumbs up.
"That is not a bad idea, mommy, how did I not think of that?"
Kelsie chuckled without saying a word and walked into the kitchen.
It was at this moment that the doorbell rang.
"Mommy, do you have any deliveries or did Zade order anything on your card?" Jesse asked in a raised voice.
"Not that I know." The woman instantly retorted, shouting ad well.
There was a moment of silence before he recalled something.
"Oh, Keira asked the restaurant downstairs to make her seafood. That must be them delivering it."
Keira, who had walked out at that moment to complain about the Wi-Fi slow, heard him and her eyes lit up happily.
Quickly forgetting why she came out in the first place, she threw her phone to the sofa and ran to answer the door.
