Chapter 104: Chapter 104 I’ll Fill The Position At Haven Medical Center
Without realizing it, her grip on the phone tightened as the realization of what might have happened to her mother dawned on her.
By the time she snapped out of her thoughts and tried to turn on her phone to call Callum Shaw, she noticed ink on the screen.
It spread so quickly that it covered the entire screen, rendering it totally blind. So she just turned it off and slipped into her pocket.
Exhaling heavily, she turned back to the nurse at the front desk.
"I’m a friend of Dr. Shaw. Is it possible to meet him?"
The nurse lowered her eyes to the computer again.
After typing on the keys for a few seconds, she raised her eyes to meet Kelsie’s.
"Dr. Shaw has an ongoing surgery at the moment. If you can afford to wait until he’s done, then have a seat in the lobby. Once he’s done, I’ll inform him there’s someone looking for him."
"Alright, I’ll wait." Kelsie nodded and strutted towards the lobby.
Thirty minutes later, Callum Shaw walked into the lobby massaging the nape of his neck, his left hand buried in the pocket of his doctor’s coat.
But his tired eyes lit up the moment they landed on the petite woman sitting in the lobby and he eagerly hurried to her side.
"Kelsie, you’re here? How long have you been waiting? You could’ve called me."
Kelsie turned her head to look at him, getting up on her feet.
"I heard you were in surgery. How was it?"
At this, Callum folded his arms and puffed out his chest, feeling an undeniable urge to brag about himself.
"I may not be as good as you, but I’m one of the few best doctors Haven Medical Center has."
"I mean, I’m the head of a research project. They don’t give such a privilege to just anyone."
Seeing him brag with his nose high up in the air in pride, Kelsie didn’t know when she laughed out.
"Fine, I get it. The surgery has no choice, but to go well since you’re the surgeon in charge. Of course."
"You know me so well." Watching her try to stifle her laughter, the man chuckled before narrowing his eyes at her suspiciously, "The research with the others isn’t starting until next week, what are you doing here? I know for a fact you didn’t come because you missed me."
Kelsie pressed her lips tightly together to suppress her grin, "When you put it like that, I almost feel like a bad person. Will taking that position you told me about the other day change your mind about me?"
The man immediately sighed in frustration, his brain quickly processing the first part of her sentence.
"Haven Medical Center is strict on who they accept. So far, they’ve rejected every application they’ve received. If only you’d accept to..."
However, he suddenly trailed off, his eyes snapping towards her in disbelief when the rest of her words made sense to him.
"What did you just say? You’ll take the position?"
Kelsie nodded with a light shrug.
"It so happens I’m in need of money and Haven Medical Center is the best hospital in our country which means my pay here will be higher than every other hospital’s."
The words were yet out of her mouth when the man beamed in agreement.
"Of course. You’re also a freelance researcher and scientist at our laboratory. The hospital doesn’t even need to go through your credentials before accepting your application."
Fearing that she’d change her mind, the man gave her the hospital’s email and made her send her credential to them.
As soon as she was done, Kelsie bade him farewell and left the hospital to pick up her children from school.
As this was happening, Jerry Sutton was livid with anger after calling Kelsie numerous times without her answering.
When he tried to call her again, he got the message that her phone was suddenly switched off.
He clenched his phone tightly and hissed through gritted teeth, "This darn brute! Ignoring her father isn’t enough, she now dares to turn off her phone!"
"Dad, if Kelsie won’t answer your call, why don’t we pay her a visit at..." Laura was suggesting from beside her mother, but paused to glance at her phone which suddenly lit up with a news headline.
Her eyes trembled uncontrollably in fear when two more news with similar headlines popped up on her phone.
Seeing her daughter’s strange reaction, Deborah Thompson picked up the phone.
Three seconds later, her eyes widened in fright, "Th-this... isn’t this about the VIP you operated on with Prof. Callahan? Why is he... he’s awake and he’s suing you..."
Laura swallowed hard and quickly fell on her knees, crawling towards Jerry.
Taking his hand in hers, she began to sob uncontrollably.
"Father, help me! Please help me! I don’t want to go to prison. I don’t want to go to such a terrible place."
Jerry clenched his jaw tightly, his eyes staring into nothing as he laughed angrily, "He’s suing? That bastard dared to sue an intern?"
"Didn’t the hospital tell him you weren’t the only assistant in that operating room with the professor?"
"Or are they looking down on our Sutton family? Are the other assistants from families they can’t afford to touch, so they’re coming after us?"
Beside him, Deborah sighed, "Honey, this will be the least of our problem if Kelsie uses her relationship with the Adler and Howard family well."
"We will not only be of help our daughter, but everyone in Springdale will respect us for being acquainted with such powerful families."
Jerry who had been thinking the same, picked up his phone and dialed Kelsie’s number again, but still got the message that her phone was switched off.
After trying two more times, he glanced at Laura stoically, "Where does your sister live?"
"Kelsie?" Laura first repeated in confusion, then her eyes lit up in understanding when she saw him putting on his coat.
"Bryan told me she stays in an apartment building thirty minutes away from here. Do you want to go there, father?"
Jerry snorted in annoyance.
"Shouldn’t I? I did so much for that wench, yet she turns her back on me when I need her the most. I’ll go to that place she lives so everyone can see what kind of daughter she is!" free\we,bnovel.c o(m)
After saying that, he turned and stormed out of the house, Deborah and Laura running after him.
Thirty minutes later, they entered the apartment building’s reception just as Kelsie was walking toward an elevator with her children.
Jerry’s nostrils flared in anger as his eyes fell on her back.
Ignoring the dozens of people, he barked loudly, "Kelsie Sutton, you unfilial daughter, how dare you treat your father with this much contempt!"
