Chapter 103 What Were The Odds?

Chapter 103: Chapter 103 What Were The Odds?

The arguing men fell silent at once.

And Bryan Baker’s eyes snapped towards Kelsie’s direction in surprise before he sneered in his heart.

What a fool.

Silicone Valley and their country as a whole had quite a lot of reputable law firms. But going with either the Howard family’s lawyers or the Adler family’s lawyers was a sure bet at winning in court.

But she foolishly refused to use any.

Peterson’s Law Firm? When did such a firm come into existence?

Here he was scared he was about to lose his family’s fortune to her when it was her who would be losing her family’s fortune to him.

As he mocked her in his heart, Kelsie noiselessly pushed her chair backward and got on her feet.

Ignoring everyone’s piercing and judgy gazes, she settled her eyes on Bryan who looked smug.

"Mr. Baker, I will be suing you for defamation, stalking, harassment and physical assault. By tomorrow, you will have the serving order."

After speaking, she took out her purse, counted some bills from it and placed it under her plate.

Then she turned her attention to Serbian and Jett who had their eyes pinned on her in confusion.

"Mr. Adler, Mr. Howard, since we’re done with breakfast, I’ll take my leave now. I have a pressing matter to attend to."

As soon as she was done speaking, she headed towards the exit.

Serbian and Howard both shot each other a stern glare before walking out with her..

It was also at this moment that some security guards came running into the building with the waiter.

However, when Bryan saw them, he turned and hurried towards the exit at the back of the restaurant.

At a corner, Laura’s friend who had witnessed everything called to tell her all that just happened.

At the Sutton family residence, Laura fell deep in thought.

The next moment, the corners of her mouth spasmed in anger as it finally made sense why Kelsie was being so strong-headed ever since she returned.

Anyone who could have breakfast with Jett Adler and Serbian Howard weren’t consider edible ordinary people.

Those two never associated with just anyone. So if they did in such a public place and even defended her from Bryan, then their relationship must be deep.

Without thinking twice, she got on her foot and headed to the living room to tell her parents about it.

When they heard her, Deborah Thompson erupted in rage, "What? She knows the head of the Adler family and the future head of the Howard family yet refuses to help you?"

"All she has to do is tell them what happened. Even if they can’t help you, the least they can do is lend you their lawyers!"

Laura nodded in agreement.

"The Adler family lawyers never loses a case. And the Howard family never let’s go once they bite."

"With these two teams of lawyers defending me, I’ll not only be able to win this lawsuit, but I’ll also be able to countersue!"

Deborah quickly thought of something and turned to her eagerly, "Counter suing, doesn’t that mean you can ask them to pay you for the accusation?"

Laura beamed, "Yes, mother. They will pay whatever amount I ask them to. Since I’ll have the Adler family and the Howard family on my side, the judge won’t dare to refuse my request to countersue nor can he reduce the amount I ask for."

Deborah did another quick thinking before turning her attention to Jerry who had been silent the whole time.

"Honey, what do you think about this? You should order Kelsie to ask Serbian Howard and Jett Adler to help our Laura incase the hospital ends up suing her."

Unlike Laura and Deborah who were thinking like this, the power hungry Jerry Sutton had made up an entirely different plan in his mind.

So he agreed without hesitation and took out his phone to call Kelsie.

However, Kelsie was already in Jade Callahan’s hotel when her phone began buzzing in her pocket.

She was about to answer to answer it when a figure appeared in front of her.

"Did I keep you waiting for long?" Jade Callahan was looking up at her, her almond-shaped eyes, framed by corrective lenses, drawing back slightly into a small smile.

Kelsie quickly silenced the call and slipped the phone into her pocket, her eyes subconsciously surveying the petite woman’s outfit.

After a brief moment, Zoe raised her hand and gently moved it across her head before sighing softly, "Such a shame. Were you not this little, you would’ve made for an excellent model."

The woman didn’t turn as she snorted amidst laughter, "What nonsense are you saying now?"

"Even at this height, I get modeling gigs. Was I not so dedicated to my profession as a surgeon, I would’ve been a popular model."

Kelsie crossed her arms across her chest, nodding in understanding, "Of course."

There was a brief silence before the woman in front of her scoffed, "I know you’re mocking me in your heart."

In an instant, Kelsie’s hard face melted into a smile as she laughed curtly.

Jade was about to walk towards the elevator when Kelsie held her back.

"What? We can talk in my room." The woman raised a brow, attempting to continue further, but Kelsie shook her head and took out her phone.

"It’s nothing that important. I just want you to answer something for me."

Then she took out her phone to play the video her mother had made.

She connected her earpods to the phone and handed it to Jade.

At first, Jade watched the video with a bland look, but at some part, something flickered through her eyes and she promptly took out the earpods to ask in a neutral voice, "Where did you find this?"

Kelsie took back her phone, eyes not leaving Jade’s face. "It was in my mother’s belonging."

Jade then parted her lips to say something, but Kelsie beat her to it.

"My mother worked a lot, so I barely saw her, but I always felt her warm hands on my face deep in my sleep every night."

"She wasn’t out all those time building Lumen Group, was she? Prof. Callahan, please don’t lie to me."

Jade hesitated for a moment before she pressed her lips together tightly, going mum for the next twenty seconds.

After deliberating, she finally gave in.

"Back when I met your mother, she was a renowned neurosurgeon." Then she went silent again for another ten seconds, her eyes falling on Kelsie’s phone, "Lois Fletcher was a professor and my mentor at the time she made this video."

Five minutes later, Kelsie walked out of Jade’s hotel with a lifeless look in her eyes.

Ignoring the constant buzzing of her phone, she got into her car and headed to Haven Medical Center.

At the reception, she spoke to the nurse at the front desk.

"Excuse me, can I get the patient record of Lois Fletcher?"

"Of course. Please hold on a moment." The nurse nodded, lowering her eyes to her keyboard.

Kelsie hummed in reply and lowered her eyes to the desk to the keyboard as well.

For the next few seconds, the clacking sounds of the keys filled the air as the nurse typed out the same name more than three times.

After doing this for over one minute, she raised her eyes to look at Kelsie, gently shaking her head at her.

"Miss, I don’t have clearance to do so. Only a higher-up can view it. I suggest you meet with the hospital director or a professor."

"Is that so? Thank you." Kelsie’s forced on a smile, her already dim eyes darkening even more.

Then she turned around and glanced around the reception blankly, Jade’s words from earlier flooding back to her mind.

"I was your mother’s student for 4 years and I can tell you how popular she was. In those 4 years I stayed with her, she was visited by a lot of people."

"Most times, it was grateful families, but the other half times, it was by rival hospital directors who didn’t like that she was taking away their important clients for a cheaper price."

"Some thugs from one hospital also visited her from time to time. I remember it was Haven Medical Center. At that time, it had just begun and their popularity increased rapidly."

"In less than two years after opening, they became the go-to hospital in the country as they had the best doctors. Even the president was one of their clients."

"Their thugs were so scary I almost peed my pants whenever I saw them coming. Once, I even asked Prof. Fletcher to merge her hospital with theirs like they had requested for her to do countless times."

Kelsie gently rubbed her eyes, glancing around the reception again.

Haven Medical Center.

The hospital her mother was brought to after getting into a car accident and where she died shortly after.

What were the odds?
