Chapter 87: CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Chapter 87: CALM BEFORE THE STORM

"I’ll be there in a few."

Receiving a notification on his phone, Terrence looked at the things that he would be bringing. He ensures that he has it all prepared.

He even prepared a list on his phone just to triple check it.

After minutes of patiently waiting, the sound of a car horn echoed outside.

Grabbing his bag, Terrence hurried downstairs to find Natalie waiting in the car, her expression was a mix of excitement and anticipation.

"Ready for today?" Natalie grinned as Terrence slid into the passenger seat after putting his bag at the back.

"Yup," Terrence replied, the thrill of the journey was evident in his voice.

As James navigated the car through the city streets, Terrence stole glances out the window before adjusting his backpack, ensuring everything was securely packed for their camping trip.

When they arrived at the location, they were greeted by Fredrich with a huge smile on his face. He and his team weren’t wearing their uniforms.

They thought that if it was a man, who was doing all of this and not a plant like what Hugo mentioned, then they needed to be cautious.

It’s a big step to not alert them or ordinary people if ever.

"I’m glad that you came here on time," Fredrick greeted enthusiastically. They also just arrived at the location.

"We too, Uncle." Natalie kindly replied back. "The roads are being blocked so we wanted to make sure to be here before that."

Fredrick chuckled.

It was only right for them to block the two openings leading to this area. It was to ensure that no person from outside would come in, and vice versa.

"You can prepare first then. We’re just gonna look around this area first. You can start making your tent there." Fredrick pointed at the area near to where Terrence was attacked.

It was the perfect spot since it was an open space away from the clumps of trees.

Terrence and Natalie couldn’t help but look around.

Even though they had a bad experience here, now that they were alone, they couldn’t help but appreciate the greenery.

Tall trees stand proudly, their trunks reaching skyward like ancient pillars, adorned with rough bark etched by time.

The air was alive with fragrances—a blend of earthy musk, the sweet aroma of flowers, and the rich scent of soil.

After being in their house for so long, Terrence thought that this was such a breath of fresh air.

Terrence and Natalie unloaded the car and took their things with them. Even though it was still early, the sun was beginning to set, casting a warm glow over the horizon.

Today was supposed to be the shortest day of the whole year so it was already given.

They set up a camp, the tent rising steadily under Terrence’s guidance. As they worked together, Natalie recounted tales of her previous camping expeditions, adding a touch of excitement to the experience.

However today was different since back then, it was more of a glamping than a camping. It provided them with more comfort than this.

When Fredrick and the others came back, they brought some pieces of woods with them. They picked it up from the ground when they were going around.

They thought that it would be useful to them to create a campfire.

After putting the woods in the middle, they left it alone first since it was still early. They proceeded to go to their spot and build their tents one by one.

Terrence and Natalie, who were done early offered some help to the others who were having a hard time.

As the sun dipped lower, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, the group gathered around outside.

As the leader, Fredrick volunteered to make the campfire while the rest of the members took out some chairs and prepared the food they packed.

With the warmth of the fire embracing them, Terrence, Natalie, Fredrick, and the others settled into their camping chairs, enjoying the tranquil ambiance.

Fredrick took charge of arranging the logs in the fire pit while the others eagerly helped, each taking turns adding bits of kindling to ensure the flames flourished.

The crackling fire they’d meticulously built offered heat amidst the coldness. The flames danced, casting playful shadows against the surrounding trees.

"The food is super near!" A guy shouted in excitement.

"Make sure they’re cooked, Rey!" Fredrick shouted back. It was as if the two men were teasing each other.

"Should we grill some meat too?" Natalie asked when she saw that there was a griller at the side.

When Fredrick heard it, he immediately looked at Natalie.

"You bought some?"

Natalie nodded. She brought an ice box with her to store some fresh products. And since she didn’t know how long would it last, it’s better for them to start cooking it already.

"Sure! That’s what we want!" As Fredrick answered, the rest of the people laughed.

Laughing, Natalie went into her tent to get a pack of meat.

Terrence opened the grill and set it up since it was from him. He waited patiently for Natalie.

When Natalie came back, the crackling sound of the griller warming up greeted her. She gave the meat to Terrence.

While they prepared food, the laughter that filled the air added to the ambiance of the evening. The chips and snacks were laid out by Rey, creating an impromptu picnic.

"To succeed in this mission!"

Fredrick raised his drink to a toast even though it was just a can of beer with only a little bit of alcohol.

"Four our mission!" The rest followed, clinking their beers together.

Even Terrence and Natalie enjoyed the fun. Fredrick and his teammates were such smooth and easy talkers, making it easy to have a conversation with them.

As the night deepened, their laughter and talk became louder.

"Let’s do the best tomorrow, everyone!" Fredrick exclaimed.

All of them were motivated to find out the truth about this case.

Little did they know that this mission would test their skills, and bonds, and unravel mysteries they never thought existed.
