Chapter 63: TERRENCE’S OFFER
Chapter 63: TERRENCE’S OFFER
Hearing the name, Terrence’s head couldn’t keep still. He eyed Edwin with an intrigued expression on his face.
"What did he do?"
Edwin was unsure whether to tell Terrence the truth. However, when he realized that keeping it alone was such a big burden to the heart, he defeatedly sighed.
Edwin decided to say everything from the start.
"Well, it started when you left. Just a day after you left, William offered me a sum of money to buy the grocery store." Edwin revealed.
Terrence’s forehead creased. "For what?"
Edwin shrugged his shoulders. "He told me that they would make a commercialized building here. They want to develop our land slowly..." he sighed.
"I obviously declined since this grocery store is one of the most important things in my life."
However, Edwin didn’t know that because of it, all the unfortunate things happened to his life.
Terrence waited patiently when Edwin became quiet.
"He threatened me that if I didn’t give in, then something would happen to me..." Edwin breathed out. There was a big lump in his throat as he continued to tell the story.
"I immediately fired him that day. But it was as if he changed into a completely different person... The day after that, my wife got into an accident. She was walking towards home when an unknown car ran over her." Edwin fought the tears that were forming in his eyes.
He could still vividly remember how he felt when he got a call from a hospital saying that his wife was there and what happened to her.
"After that..." Edwin broke into tears.
These past few days had been tough for him. He was in a state of depression.
"After that, the hospital said that they wouldn’t assist my wife if we didn’t pay for a downpayment, so I had no choice."
Edwin silently cried after letting it out. The heaviness on his chest slowly disappeared as he cried more.
It was probably the first time that he cried this hard.
Terrence was left speechless. He secretly gritted his teeth. He thought that since this was a different life, then they might be different compared to his previous life.
However, he was wrong. Very wrong.
It was completely the opposite of what he generally thought. William seemed to be more vicious this time.
He didn’t know William could do this to someone.
’I wonder if this was really William back then..." Terrence thought about the possibility.
Terrence just watched Edwin. He knew that right now, what Edwin needed the most was his presence and not any words or consolation.
When Edwin’s cry died down, Terrence took that opportunity to ask more questions.
"How is your wife then?" Terrence curiously asked.
"She’s still admitted to the ICU. She broke some of her bones and still needs treatment."
Edwin lightly smiled as he talked about this wife.
"I am fortunate that my wife survived it. She’s a fighter, you know," Edwin chuckled.
Terrence smiled. "At least she’s safe. I’m happy to hear that."
Edwin nodded. "Yeah. But oh well, the bill is definitely increasing."
Healthcare in their country wasn’t really accessible to all because of how high it was. Some hospitals even have the right to refuse patients if they feel like the patient wouldn’t be able to pay.
The people tried to revolt against it, but they didn’t win. The hospital refused to accept any patients who came from those families that revolted.
Because of that, the people stopped the revolt for their loved ones. The people couldn’t do anything since it was health that they were talking about.
"What do you plan to do now, then?"
Shrugging his shoulder again, "I don’t know. They paid quite a large sum of money, but with my estimate, it’s only enough with my wife’s hospital bills, and the rest is to live for a couple of months and maybe start anew."
That was the only thing that Edwin could think of. The money that will be left after paying for his wife’s hospital bills wouldn’t be huge.
"In a few days, I’m thinking of applying for jobs. I have a degree in Marketing, so that would be a help." Edwin stated.
He knew that it would be hard since he had no experience, and those were the things that a company was looking for when it comes to job applications.
When Terrence heard of it. He suddenly thought of an idea. He secretly grinned, knowing for sure that it would be of help to Edwin.
"Isn’t being a CEO your dream, though? Isn’t that why you created this grocery store?"
"Yep. But that won’t feed me or my family right now. Building another business is almost impossible. I’m sure no one would be willing to loan me too after what happened." Terrence looked at Edwin. A smile appeared on his lips.
"How about applying for a job? A job where you basically handle a grocery store? Like managing the employees and how it’s running?" He grinned.
Edwin shook his head and looked at Terrence unbelievably. He glared at him.
"I just told you that it would be impossible. Even though I have a background in that, that won’t matter in the eyes of company workers. They’ll probably select the most qualified one for a job like that."
Terrence chuckled as he heard the annoyance in Edwin’s voice.
"Are you satisfied with that already, then?"
"If it will feed me and my family, then of course," Edwin answered quickly, as the only thing that would matter to him right now was his family.
"It’s unfortunate then..." Terrence hopelessly sighed.
"What do you mean?" Edwin’s brows formed a straight line.
Terrence sheepishly smiled. "Well, I was thinking of hiring you in a grocery store that I am putting up." He shrugged his shoulders and pretended that it was okay.
"But oh well, you said you’re fine already." He continued.
When Edwin heard it, he froze on the spot for a couple of seconds. His jaw fell to the ground as he quickly looked to Terrence to confirm what he said.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?"
