Chapter 62: EDWIN’S STATE

Chapter 62: EDWIN’S STATE

"Edwin..."

Terrence called Edwin’s name as he got nearer. He stared at him intently. The feeling of pity rose to his heart. He felt suffocated as he watched Edwin in his current state.

He looked so helpless and lifeless.

Edwin was in a state of confusion when he heard someone calling out his name. He looked to the side.

"Terence?" Terrence’s eyes widened. His jaw fell to the ground as he stared at Terrence, whom he hadn’t seen in a while.

"W-What are you doing here?" He asked. He quickly wiped away the tears in his eyes using his hands before taking a step forward to face Terrence.

Terrence looked around. "I wanted to see how your grocery store was doing. I didn’t know that..." he found it hard to continue his words.

Terrence was carefully looking at Edwin’s reaction. He did not want to hurt him more with his words.

Edwin must be in a vulnerable state right now, and putting more words in his brain would just make it worse for him.

Sighing, Edwin slowly nodded. He looked at the side and stared at the demolished building that used to be his grocery store.

"Shit happened," Edwin uttered. A soft laugh escaped from his lips.

He thought of masking the pain he was feeling by pretending to be happy. Still, he bet

Terrence had already seen him in his state earlier, so he didn’t bother anymore.

"Let’s go to the nearby café first. I heard you haven’t left here since yesterday." Terrence offered after he remembered it.

Looking at Edwin, Terrence realized how bad his complexion looked. Edwin’s under eyes looked dark. His skin was pale and dirty. He looked like he was out of energy.

Edwin tilted his head to the side, declining what Terrence said.

"I just want to be here. At least I get to see the grocery store in its remaining days."

Terrence knew that he wouldn’t be able to persuade Edwin in his current state right now.

"Did you eat then?" He asked curiously. He bet that Edwin hasn’t done that yet.

"Nope..." Edwin calmly replied. He forgot to eat food because his mind was preoccupied right now.

"This won’t do." Terrence shook his head. "Wait for me here. I’ll be quick." He left without waiting for an answer.

Edwin shrugged his shoulders. He sighed as he watched Terrence walk away from him. Sometimes, he wondered what was going on inside Terrence’s brain. He seemed like he was a deep person.

Edwin stared at his feet. He picked up a few pieces of wood. It was the woods that used to be the shelves of his grocery store.

He paced it on the ground and sat on it so that his pants wouldn’t get dirty. That’s the only time he felt tired from his feet and whole body. He suddenly felt hungry and thirsty, too.

However, currently, Edwin does not have the privilege to do all of that. He can rest, but he was penniless. He wouldn’t be able to afford to buy any food for himself. The good thing was he carried a water bottle with him.

It was a huge plastic bottle with only a few ounces of water left.

Edwin drank all of it to somehow fill his hunger. It wouldn’t significantly help, but at least there was something in his stomach.

Terrence came back in just a few minutes. He was in a hurry, since he knew that Edwin must be hungry right now.

He just went to the coffee shop that he and Natalie went to previously and bought a lot of food and drink there.

He just told the waiter that he was in a hurry, so he would just take food that was fast to serve.

In total, he spent $154 in the café and was able to buy 6 different foods and 4 drinks.

Terrence was relieved when he saw that Edwin was just sitting and was still in his place from earlier.

"Here. Eat this." Terrence put a smile on his face as he slightly raised his hand to show the paper bags that contained the food.

"You don’t have to..." Edwin, in a low voice, uttered. He greatly appreciates what Terrence was currently doing.

"Nope. You have to eat this bruh. You looked as if you were a ghost now." Terrence pointed out.

Terrence took a step closer to Edwin and placed the food in front of him. He then went to his side and sat with him.

Terrence remained silent as Edwin reached out for the food. Edwin took some sandwiches and also gave one to Terrence.

"Eat one, too. It feels lonely to eat alone." Edwin unwrapped the sandwich’s packaging and quickly took a bite of it.

Terrence did the same and started to eat, even though he was still full. He just ate it so that Edwin wouldn’t feel that he was alone. He remained silent to wait until Edwin was ready to talk about his problem.

He doesn’t have any idea about what happened. The only information he had was based on what he heard earlier.

In the middle of the silence, Edwin cleared his throat. He glanced at the side and saw that Terrence was just looking at the demolishment work. His eyes flew to it, too.

The backhoe loader was still at work to destroy the four sides of the building. It was already halfway done after a whole day of work yesterday.

"You must have heard of what happened already..." Edwin uttered all of a sudden.

Terrence, without looking at Edwin, nodded. "Yup. I heard it from a few women just earlier." He answered.

Edwin sighed. "Since you left, everything became shit."

Edwin looked above and stared at the sky. Compared to earlier, the sky became gloomy and dark.

"Why, what happened?" Terrence’s forehead creased. He didn’t know how everything could drastically change in just a short amount of time.

Edwin tilted his head to the side. He took a deep breath and smiled bitterly.

"I should have believed you about trusting William..."
