Chapter 46: TEXT WITH NATALIE

Terrence woke up late. He sat on the bed and stared blankly at the wall in front of him. He was still sleepy.

Terrence grabbed his phone in a daze. His eyes were still half-closed. His forehead creased when he saw 3 message notifications on his phone’s screen.

All of them came from Natalie. It was just minutes after he fell asleep.

[Natalie: Do you want to accompany your sister on the way to her school? I will be going with them, so you can ride my car with me.]

The next message was 30 minutes later.

[Natalie: Are you asleep already?]

[Natalie. It’s late so you must be really sleeping already. Goodnight, Terrence. Have a good sleep.]

Even though Terrence was still half-asleep, he chose to reply.

[Terrence: Good afternoon. Sorry, I fell asleep. I read all of your messages. Can I still go with you?]

Terrence put down his phone after sending his message. He brushed his teeth and immediately went outside. It was past lunch already. He was asleep for 10 hours.

"Terrence," Tiana looked at Terrence as he walked towards their dining table. It was Saturday, so she and her husband had no work to do.

"Good morning, Mom," Terrence uttered. He rubbed his eyes and went to take a seat in front of their dining table.

"What good morning? It’s already 1 in the afternoon." Tiana’s eyebrows rose up. "Go eat already. It’s late."

Terrence silently nodded. He stood up again to grab a plate and a spoon before coming back to the table. He grabbed some food and ate silently.

"Where’s Abigail and Dad?" Terrence asked after noticing that they were gone. Usually, by this time, they would be sitting on the sofa and watching television.

"They bought some school supplies for your sister," Tiana answered.

"They should have woken me up so I can accompany them and pay for whatever they want to buy," Terrence pointed out.

"Oh, right. Abigail’s school just called. She would be leaving early in the morning tomorrow." Tiana announced out of a sudden.

"What time?" Terrence glanced at Tiana.

"9 am. Make sure you wake up, Terrence. You need to say goodbye to your sister. It will be long since we will see her again."

Terrence nodded. "Yes, Mom. I’ll be leaving soon after that too. I have somewhere to go."

"I noticed you’ve been going out frequently, Terrence. I’m getting worried about what you are doing." Tiana, in a serious tone, spoke of.

Tiana tried to not mind what Terrence was doing because he was an adult already. She thought that Terrence could already think on his own.

It was fine at first. However, after days, she has grown more worried. Especially since Terrence was spending and displaying more money. It was unusual since Terrence hadn’t told her his work or where he was getting all the money.

"Mom, I told you to just let me. You just need to trust me. I already promised you that I’m not doing any dangerous stuff."

Tiana sighed. "If that’s the case then why can’t you say anything to me?" she asked curiously.

"I’ll tell you at the right time, Mom. But not now." Terrence smiled, assuring his mother.

Tiana once again sighed. "Alright. This will be the last time that I will ask for it."

Terrence nodded. He stood up and placed his plates on the sink. He washed them by hand.

When Terrence thought of it, Abigail would leave their house already. He suddenly thought of moving out as well.

It was rare for someone like him to stay at their house at this age. Usually at the age of 18, people would leave their parents’ home to start their own life.

He wasn’t able to do that because of the life they have. But now, he has the money to afford it.

"Mom, what do you think of me moving out?" Terrence questioned after washing the dishes. He went to his mother’s place.

Tiana was shocked by the sudden question. "Why did you ask that, Terrence? That was all of a sudden."

Terrence shrugged his shoulders. "It just occurred to me, Mom."

"Let’s talk about it after your sister’s departure." Tiana smiled. It was a forced one. However, Terrence didn’t notice it.

"Alright. I’ll just be going to my room, Mother. Just say my name when you need me." Terrence waved his hands before proceeding to his room.

Tiana just nodded without saying any words as an answer. She was flustered by Terrence’s question. There was a sudden heavy feeling in her heart when she thought of how her 2 children would leave them.

Terrence, who went back inside his room, immediately went to his bed. He took his phone and checked if there was a notification.

Just as he expected, there was a message from Natalie.

[Natalie: Yes, Terrence! I’ll go to your house by 9 am tomorrow. Should we let your sister know about this?]

Terrence thought about it for a few seconds before responding.

[Terrence: No need. I’ll surprise her.]

It only took a few seconds before he received a reply from Natalie. It was so quick that he thought, "Is Natalie not busy?"

[Natalie: Alright! Let’s keep that a secret between the two of us then :>. I’ll tell my dad’s secretary to give me some time tomorrow. You can use that as an opportunity to say your final goodbye to your sister.]

[Terrence: Thanks, Natalie. I appreciate what you’re doing.]

[Natalie: No problem :>]

Terrence put down his phone after reading Natalie’s reply. A sigh escaped from his lips.

He couldn’t believe that he and Abigail would be apart starting tomorrow. Everything was so fast.

He didn’t expect anything starting from the start of his second life. But this was better than his whole family, together with him dying.

Terrence closed his eyes. He lay on his bed and looked at the plain white ceiling in front of him.

He just hopes that everything will be fine tomorrow.
