Chapter 814: Chapter 314: You’ve Made Me Suffer!
Austin tried to explain clearly that he had no blood relation with Wayne.
Looking alike ≠ father and son.
If looking alike meant there was a blood relation, then he resembled Douglas in appearance too. How come no one said they were biological brothers?
Austin presented facts and used reason, stating that Wayne was his son-in-law, who through this status became the heir to the Lando Family.
The similarities in clothing and hairstyle were all thanks to the former butler, Philark; everything could be explained.
Sophia could no longer trust Austin as before. She didn’t argue but instead asked, "The activation ceremony for the Divine Blood failed. Austin, do you know why?"
Austin remained silent. The activation ceremony for the Divine Blood had been successful only in part because he had set up a Magic Array in the Lando family, using ancient silver coins to cause interference and disrupt the stability of the Grey Space.
This was also why Frank, despite being well-prepared, only succeeded halfway and failed to drain all of the Royal Family’s Divine Blood in one go.
Frank could activate the Divine Blood through the Grey Space; naturally, Austin could interrupt it. They both had invested a lot of research in Divine Blood and mist and had used it as their trump card.
The difference was that Frank aimed for the evolution of The Book of Hell, whereas Austin only sought self-preservation, making preparations in advance just in case.
But whatever Austin’s intentions might have been, his hands ultimately reached into the Grey Space—the Royal Family’s trump card against the Holy See, the foundation upon which the Windsor Royal Family was established. As a vassal loyal to the core, Austin’s actions made his loyalty seem exceptionally hypocritical.
Once the bridge of trust collapses, even the truth is taken for lies.
Austin said that Wayne was not his son, and Sophia found the words grating to her ears. Yes means yes—the Lando Family had already won everything; there was no need to keep up the act.
Sophia stood on political ground and inquired if there was still a possibility for Austin to continue their affiliation, but he flatly refused, not leaving any room for negotiation.
Sophia backed off and instead tried to promote her daughter, Elizabeth, which was also rejected on the grounds that Wayne was not biologically related.
This was a rhythm for the Windsor Family to completely exit the political scene!
At least in the Queen’s ears, this was Austin’s arrangement—the Lando Family was ready for the property transfer; he advised the Queen to give up resistance and accept the harsh reality.
"Austin, is there really no chance at all?"
"..."
Austin was speechless. Refusing the Princess on behalf of Wayne was for the sake of the Royal Family, yet the Queen insisted on seeing him as harboring wild ambitions...
Well, as long as the Queen was happy, that was fine; after all, he couldn’t control whatever Wayne wanted to do—let it be.
"Your Majesty, just do as you please. I will reiterate, the Lando Family’s only stance towards the Royal Family is loyalty and more loyalty." Austin bowed respectfully.
"That’s really great." Sophia smiled faintly.
In a flash, the two seemed to return to their initial state of harmonious trust as ruler and vassal. But they both knew, everything was irreversible; a thick wall had formed between them.
The cold moonlight shrouded the Magical Department Headquarters, and upon closer inspection, the fog enveloping the entirety of Lundan seemed to have thinned significantly.
The subtle change didn’t attract much attention, as the affluent West District, the North District, and the inner part of Lundan continued to revel in peace and prosperity.
Deep underground, in a Mysterious Space.
An ancient altar, once destroyed by Devil’s disturbance, now floated intact and still in midair, inscribed above with both the Golden Rule Holy Words and the Seven Deadly Sins Melody.
The Reincarnation Altar of Lord Pride.
Devils from Hell could use the altar to reincarnate as humans, and humans could use the altar to reincarnate as Devils from Hell.
A figure slowly appeared.
Suit and shirt, leather shoes and tie, a man in the guise of a social elite, his face impossible to look at directly, indiscernible.
He waved his hand into The Void, pulled out a black-covered book, placed it on the altar, and started inscribing the Seven Deadly Sins Melody onto the blank pages of the book.
Soon, a new Book of Hell was created.
"Frank, is it? Your writing of Hell’s evolution has some merit, but it’s too narrow. If merging the Seven Demon Lords constitutes the ultimate evolution, why wouldn’t I just replicate the Seven Deadly Sins Melody instead?"
"You can’t be blamed; the composition of the Seven Demon Lords led you to misunderstand..."
"Merging the Seven Demon Lords won’t give birth to a god of Hell; there is another purpose to Hell’s existence!"
"I hope the next holder of the Book of Hell can bring me a surprise..."
The man muttered a few words, then prepared to toss The Book of Hell into Lundan to find the next lucky individual to guide its evolution.
His hand raised halfway, the man stopped.
"Lundan is no longer suitable; the new holder will end in failure just like Frank."
After some contemplation, the man drove the newly born Book of Hell into The Void, sending it toward Frank across the sea from Windsor.
The target is Paris; to whosoever is destined.
"Whose hands will it fall into this time?"
"I hope it’s a member of the clergy; that would be really interesting."

West District Grand Cemetery.
Philomena, in a long white dress and veiled in white gauze, followed the Death Knight to the Unnamed Tombstone. The Death Knight burrowed into the coffin lid, sinking into the ground to slumber, and did not respond to the presence of the High Priest tracking him.
The indifference of the Death Knight left Philomena paranoid; she had been sure at the start that Wayne was the Death Knight, but now she was filled with doubt, wondering if she had guessed wrong.
With her understanding of ghosts, he should have laughed heartily by now, cornered the stunning High Priest, and then pretended to be about to do something very Sese.
Nothing happened...
