Chapter 539: Chapter 233 Can’t eat it all, take it with you_2
Having said that, he would use Telepathic Transmission, noting that the Devil had gathered so many people together, it would be impossible to do nothing. Tonight, he planned to visit the castle under the guise of the Death Knight.
"Boss, Juno doesn’t have an invitation; she knows you have one, and wants to tag along with you,"
"No, you go with her instead,"
Wayne frowned slightly. Attending a banquet with two beautiful women on each arm was flashy and would give him the opportunity to emulate Austin and set up a persona of a debauched playboy, clearly indicating that women were his weakness.
No one is perfect; if someone wanted to scheme against him using beauty, he assured himself that he was very easy to seduce.
Austin did just that once.
Unfortunately, it was not possible.
At least not this time.
With Princes and Princesses around, and the Queen watching like a tiger from behind, the banquet was too chaotic. As the heir of the Lando Family, he couldn’t show up in person.
He would send his secretary with a bouquet, and that should suffice.
————
Night.
On the outskirts of Lundan City.
The lone moon was cold; the mist, thin.
Far from the city’s clamor, a dense forest covered low hills, the overlapping layers of leaves diffusing the moonlight. From an elevated position, a winding mountain path could be glimpsed below.
A gust of wind blew, pushing the fog like a great hand, swaying the branches as though they were moved by this hand, creating a rustling sound.
Deep within the woods, a castle stood in silence as soft music permeated the air, barely suppressing the eerie atmosphere all around.
Headlights cut through the darkness as a black sedan approached from afar, crossing a stone bridge, passing through a tunnel, and slowly drawing close to the castle.
Inside the car, two Ladies dressed up for the occasion.
Mona and Juno’s tastes were similar, both wearing white evening gowns, with overcoats concealing elegant curves.
They were missing just one thing: a bag-holding, driving man flanked by women on both sides.
Juno drove, expressing her surprise, "It’s unbelievable. Your boss didn’t come and let you, his beautiful secretary, go to the banquet alone. Does he really trust you that much?"
He was riding a horse on his way there.
Mona mentally provided the correct answer, smiling slightly, "Juno, the relationship between my boss and me is nothing but professional, not as complicated as you think."
"Really? But that night you and him..."
Juno raised an eyebrow, "We both practice Holy Light Magic, and after knowing each other for so many days, we might not be best friends, but at least good ones. Tell me the truth, what is your relationship with Sir Wayne?"
"There’s no relationship."
"I don’t believe it. You must be his girlfriend."
"Not interested."
"Then you’re his lover, right?"
"..."
That could be possible.
Seeing Mona didn’t object, Juno commented wistfully, "Sir Wayne is the heir to the Lando Family. He is destined to marry Mister Lando’s daughter. With your caliber, you shouldn’t waste your youth on him."
It’s none of your business!
"Seriously though, if you’re interested in switching sides, the Princess needs talent like yours. Maybe one day, Sir Wayne will have to bow and greet you," Juno offered an olive branch, attempting to poach Mona.
As one might expect, the result was mediocre.
Mona might not be what Wayne wanted, but she already belonged to Wayne.
"Juno, don’t talk while you’re driving, keep your eyes on the road. Also, you’re wearing high heels, right?"
"Ah?"
"Remember not to wear high heels when driving next time. It’s too dangerous,"
"..."
Undeterred, Juno continued to advise all the way, preaching about independence and not relying on men, suggesting that the sisters could achieve great things together, yet Mona remained unresponsive.
"We’ve arrived."
The black sedan parked in the temporary parking lot in front of the castle. Juno got out of the car, glanced at the distant cold moon, and said, "The fog is thick in the suburbs tonight. It wasn’t this creepy when we scouted yesterday. Is this the Devil’s doing?"
The Devil is not this handsome!
Juno kept stepping on landmines, irritating Mona. Holding an invitation, Mona walked towards the castle’s main gate, courteously delivering the gift of the day.
A bouquet of flowers.
"Is this your boss’s gift?"
"Yes, it’s not about the value of the gift but the sentiment. That’s what the boss said."
"You’re so naive. Why didn’t the Princess meet someone like you earlier..."
Juno felt it a pity that such a good woman wasn’t secured by the Princess earlier.
The two walked down the red carpet into the castle’s function hall. As Mages, they were not bothered by the cold of the winter night, yet both chose not to take off their overcoats, holding their drinks as they found a secluded spot in the outdoor banquet area to watch the other guests.
Soon, a gentleman approached them, inquiring if they needed a male companion.
Juno wrapped her arm around Mona’s shoulder, indicating they were both taken and happy without a man.
The gentleman left with a smile when he realized it was Windsor.
Suddenly, a commotion arose below. The guests at the top looked down towards the main entrance of the castle, followed by a burst of schadenfreude laughter.
Mona looked down and saw a group of men in black escorting a woman who was forcing her way through the checkpoint using brute force, knocking back anyone who tried to stop her.
The woman was the fiercest of them all, wearing riding attire and long boots, wielding a riding crop to clear the way, and lashing out at the castle’s Guards.
Mona pushed her glasses up; the woman’s identity was no simple matter. By the way she forcefully made her entry, the castle’s security backed off without so much as laying a hand on her.
"This should be interesting,"
Juno’s lips curled up, "She is Carol Bourbon, the fiancée of Prince Edward from the well-known Bourbon Family. They used to be formidable, though now their influence is mediocre."
"Juno, are you sure we should be discussing this?"
Mona heard the surname of the Prince’s fiancée for the first time, effectively making the Prince and his fiancée relatives by marriage.
"What does it matter? Those who know, know; those who don’t, it doesn’t matter if they hear. Like the Princess’s fiancé, he is also an heir to a branch of a fallen family."
