Chapter 538: Chapter 233 Bite Off More Than One Can Chew

Mona and Juno joined forces, forming a detective duo with absolutely no synergy, barely making any progress in their investigation as they both pretended to be clueless.

Princess Elizabeth, trailing Juno, didn’t make any declarations. She wasn’t in a hurry, and it was pointless for Wayne to be anxious. He would get the intelligence collected by Mona every day, then turn around to discuss it with Austin.

With the intelligence at hand, the princess intended to collaborate with the Lando Family.

To be exact, Austin was loyal to the Queen, and the princess wanted to secure Wayne’s loyalty.

"Austin, this is not what you told me..."

Wayne said confused, "According to you, Prince Edward has no chance of ascending the throne. The princess could become the queen without doing anything, but she doesn’t act like a victor at all."

Whether it’s finding dirt on the prince or casting flirtatious glances at the Lando Family in advance, the more Wayne thought about it, the more he felt the princess was insecure and lacked confidence, hoping to use some kind of trickery.

"Don’t overthink it, I’ve already asked the Queen." Austin ended the conversation.

"What did the Queen say?"

"She didn’t take a stance."

Austin played with an Ancient Silver Coin: "The Queen didn’t take a stand, but the princess’s investigation continues, indicating she knows about this. As for choosing the Lando Family... I have no clue for now."

The Lando Family is loyal to the Queen and will be loyal to the King in the future. There’s no need for the princess to be so anxious; she just has to wait patiently.

And with the Queen being aware, even if the princess were to bat her eyelashes until they cramped, the Lando Family wouldn’t see a thing.

If one had to find a scapegoat...

Impossible, the Queen already knows.

From Austin’s understanding of Princess Elizabeth, she was a shrewd and powerful contender for the throne, with both means and intellect. Such foolish actions didn’t seem like something the princess would do.

"What did I say, the princess knows all. She wants to test whether you, her biological father, are worth expecting anything from!" Wayne insisted.

Austin didn’t respond and instead said, "Hefei must have told you, the Naturalism Church’s investigation team left Lundan, securing your candidacy. Once the procedures at the Naturalism Church Headquarters are completed, you will spend some time there soon."

"The teacher mentioned it, and he brought up Flora. She took a year off and left Lundan with her students. If I’m not wrong, she’s going to the headquarters to pull some strings." Wayne curled his lip, imagining scenes of Flora flaunting her legs everywhere.

What else did she have other than her status as the former Holy Maiden?

"I remember you saying that the investigation team included two members from the Naturalist Knights Order, and they didn’t know each other’s identities." Austin slowly said, "Be careful, that Vice Commander might be here for the Death Knight."

"You mean the Dark Knight, he’s the most wanted criminal."

Wayne was somewhat excited. Gavin barged into the Grand Cemetery of the West District, with the Death Knight ahead and the Dark Knight behind. Vulnerable and pathetic, trembling behind the tombstones.

"The Vice Commander of the Naturalist Knights Order wouldn’t have come just to assess the candidate. He must have other objectives..." Austin frowned, suspecting that the Vice Commander had already met with the Queen.

It could be someone else, like Heavenly Father’s Court.

Making the biggest statement was simply marking his presence, backing up the Naturalism Church and warning their ally, the Moonlight Church, not to overstep the boundaries.

Austin shook his head slightly, not wanting to dwell on these troublesome issues: "Keep a low profile at headquarters, don’t draw the Dark Knight to you. Solve the problem with Flora’s students normally; I expect her to change Hefei’s mind."

"Don’t worry, I understand Odelia very well; she can’t escape the palm of my hand."

"..."

Austin didn’t want to talk anymore. He gestured towards the door, indicating Wayne should leave.

Time circled around to February 8th, and Mona’s investigative efforts achieved a breakthrough.

She obtained reliable intelligence from Juno; Prince Edward had thrown a birthday celebration for his lover, located at a suburban castle.

The venue was rented by Mayor Angelo, making quite a commotion, even Wayne received an invitation.

At the Detective Agency’s office.

No sooner had Wayne received the information from Little Mustache than he called Sora, offering up the Tulip Family’s data readily.

Brutally straightforward, entirely unafraid of exposing himself.

He wasn’t worried, but Sora was a whole bundle of nerves, confirming a new mailbox for future intelligence exchanges with Wayne, and urging that any further intelligence be dumped in a trash bag in the mailbox, to avoid face-to-face meetings.

Wayne readily agreed, promising that next time, he would outsource it to Little Mustache, who would directly take the intelligence to the mailbox, saving him the hassle of involvement.

Having dealt with these minor issues, Wayne rubbed his hands together in anticipation of the final Familiar’s performance.

The first Familiar vanished upon arriving in Lundan, and the second became a puppet to the mysterious person, each one more embarrassing than the last, creating two Hellish jokes in a row.

The third was hidden the deepest; judging by the name Juliet, it should be a Familiar with a female appearance.

Wayne looked at the invitation on his left, then at the intelligence report on his right, pointed at Sander’s photo, and said, "I’ve seen this woman before, didn’t expect her to snag the prince so quickly."

Mona nodded with envy. If she had that kind of efficiency, she wouldn’t be in trouble anymore.

"Is the intelligence reliable? I observed this beauty before, and didn’t sense any Devil’s aura on her..."

Wayne hesitantly spoke up, unsure what a Devil’s aura was, only aware that Sander was indeed very pretty and wondering if his senses were fooled by a Devil’s beauty.

"Boss, Juno’s information comes from the Princess. It likely isn’t wrong."

"Well, the Prince is impressive then. He’s got a Devil as a lover; he can now call himself a Devil Knight."

Wayne joked, picking up the invitation and handing it to Mona, "Represent me at the party. There’s no need for gifts, just bring a bunch of flowers. I’m not that close to the prince."
