Chapter 1299: Chapter 436: During an avalanche, no single snowflake feels responsible_3

Vikul was so enraged he almost transformed into Wrath on the spot, raising a hand to slap Kel offline while bringing Kiraal online.

Fuming with anger, Vikul demanded answers. Why had the plan not been followed? Kiraal sighed wistfully and refused to explain. Unable to open his mouth, he simply told Vikul to see for himself.

After much backtracking, Vikul arrived at the Buckingham Palace banquet hall. He was determined to find out exactly what kind of state Archangel Hexuno had gotten into that left Kiraal so tight-lipped.

He didn’t see Hexuno right away but instead found the pompous Uriel.

More infuriated!

...

Half an hour later, footsteps echoed in the hallway outside the banquet hall. Bedford poked his head into the room, his face brimming with joy as he rushed inside.

"Lord Pedro, the Lando Family has arrived."

"..."

Uriel opened his eyes, his dissatisfaction with Hexuno reaching its peak. To make him wait half an hour in front of so many people—when timing it from the start of the banquet, an entire forty minutes late!

As the crowd stirred, Wayne entered with Philomena’s slender waist in his arm, followed by Hexuno and Heya.

"Why didn’t Austin come?"

"His son’s here. Same thing..."

"Wayne is also the Deputy Minister of the Magic Department. The Lando Family got the support of a handful of churches entirely thanks to him greasing the wheels on all fronts. Otherwise, do you think Austin would just stand by and watch as Wayne slept with his own sister?"

"That’s just a rumor. The Lando Family’s eldest daughter was adopted to conceal Wayne’s identity."

"True enough, father and son are identical."

"Damn, fooled by rumors again."

"Makes sense!"

Amidst the muttering, Heya pulled out a guest chair and respectfully offered it to Wayne.

"Such a grand banquet hall, yet only two chairs? Has the Royal Family fallen to this extent?" Wayne asked knowingly, patting his long legs and motioning to Philomena to sit astride them.

The more, the merrier; this had always been his style.

Philomena gave Wayne a sharp sidelong glance but didn’t refuse. She gracefully took a seat on the scoundrel’s lap.

As the High Priest of the Moonlight Church, her words and actions represented the Church itself. Acting too intimately with the opposite sex in public, even for lovers, was somewhat unbecoming.

Yet Legendary Mages tended to have a streak of madness. You couldn’t expect them to follow the rules.

Philomena knew fully well about Wayne’s many "wings." But for her to be the one accompanying him to such important meetings, and publicly at that—it was an unmistakable declaration of her status. She couldn’t be happier.

Vikul: (一`´一)

No wonder Kiraal didn’t want to talk. Archangel Hexuno had indeed gone too far.

Thankfully, the situation wasn’t irredeemable. Hexuno seemed to be deliberately provoking Uriel and hadn’t engaged in any physical intimacy with this woman. After all, Hexuno symbolized purity, understood her role, and knew she couldn’t possibly act recklessly.

Exactly, that must be it!

Vikul first consoled himself, then slowly closed his eyes. It took a full thirty seconds before he summoned the courage to open them and look at Wayne.

Who the hell are you?

Wayne bore no trace of the Reincarnated Angels’ aura...

Well, not none at all. His tongue carried the intricate engraving of the Libra Cross Sword, the emblem of Hexuno’s Angel Legion.

Who was he? Hexuno’s spokesperson? At such an important occasion, why didn’t Hexuno show up herself?

Vikul was filled with doubt. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted two genuine Reincarnated Angels and instinctively looked toward them.

That glance shattered him entirely.

Frey, perfectly clean and immaculate. The supposed semblance of Hexuno was covered in filth, utterly incompatible with any notion of purity.

Clutching his chest, Vikul gasped for air. Unwilling to give up, he suspected he was seeing things—a semblance, nothing more, not the actual Archangel Hexuno. Clearly, he must have been opening his eyes wrong.

Another look.

Absolute fury!

What do you take the Angels’ purity for? Does Heaven still want its honor? Are the Seven Virtues still to be upheld?

Overcome with rage, Vikul fumed for what felt like an eternity. Sure, his past wasn’t spotless either, but that was before his awakening. Hexuno, by contrast, had awakened, and yet continued galloping down the path of impurity.

Vikul could tell: the filth on Hexuno was both old and new. Her defilement wasn’t built in a day but accumulated steadily over time.

The freshest marks could be traced back to this morning.

This is just fantastic!

Vikul buried his hands in his hair. His once-gentle and composed face turned twisted and menacing with anger. A chain of vexations erupted all at once, making him want nothing more than to storm out and demand an explanation from Hexuno.

But he held back.

For the glory of Heaven, he could only stew alone in a corner.

Behind Wayne, Hexuno’s cheeks flushed slightly, but she quickly composed herself as though nothing had happened.

What had she said again? Vikul had a calm temperament and a mild disposition. Even if he saw anything, he wouldn’t make a fuss.

Shameless as it might sound, after overcoming the initial period of fear and unease, Hexuno had come to forgive herself.

She had even found a rather convincing excuse.

The Saint Heir, successor to the Heavenly Father, had been the one to take her purity. He could do no wrong. No wrong for the Saint Heir = no wrong for her.

On the contrary, those who would expose the truth—who insisted on accusing her of sin—were the ones truly tarnishing the Kingdom of Heaven’s name, the most unforgivable of sinners.

Don’t speak of it, and everything will be fine!

Corruption is like a slide: there’s no way to stop halfway, only to slip endlessly to the bottom.

Hexuno’s descent into depravity, excused by blaming others, had Wayne as its instigator. Uriel, Kiraal, and Vikul were accomplices. These three Angels, blinded by political correctness for the sake of Heaven’s image, repeatedly turned a blind eye to Hexuno’s actions, emboldening her to continue her descent with no qualms.
