Chapter 1099: Chapter 386: The Weather is Dry; Beware of Fire Sources (Part 2)
...
On the following day, the Holy Maiden fell ill and could not attend the welcome ceremony for the Naturalism Church.
The envoy from the Naturalism Church also did not attend. Upon hearing that the Holy Maiden was unwell, they ventured a few meters away to knock on the door next door, bringing their hometown’s local remedies to treat her.
Such an outrageous claim would have sparked rumors of impurity about the Holy Maiden in any other church.
But not in the Dark Church. It’s not that the Followers and higher-ups are particularly naive, but the image of Anastasia has always been staunchly upheld. Even though Pope Ivan arranged Wayne’s bedroom in the Holy Maiden Hall in an incredibly preposterous manner, no one was suspicious.
Firstly, the faith of both the Pope and Holy Maiden is beyond question;
Secondly, even setting aside faith, a father wouldn’t harm his own daughter;
Then, Wayne is an undercover agent implanted within the Naturalism Church, one of their own, so the arrangements made by the Pope must involve some covert affairs;
Lastly, the former Dark Knight, Vizi, is also in the Holy Maiden Hall, whose purely chaste character as a Knight guarantees the prevention of any impure progress.
Their minds could always fill in the blanks.
Not until the afternoon of the next day did Wayne, to everyone’s expectations, leave the Holy Maiden Hall fully satisfied, having successfully relieved the Holy Maiden’s condition.
He prescribed another treatment, and within a few days, Anastasia would be fully recovered.
Upon thorough investigation, it was nothing but overwork. The Holy Maiden worked diligently for her faith, laboring tirelessly night after day, never uttering a complaint or grievance, never faltering despite minor injuries, and maintaining a remarkably high spirit like that of a tireless workhorse.
Such an intense workload would wear down even the sturdiest of people, let alone her at her ripe old age of one hundred.
Coinciding with the Great Sage’s defection, the Holy Maiden fell ill from shock and self-reproach for having disappointed the faith.
Vizi: (눈_눈)
The Knight’s mind is like the Naturalism Church Headquarters, filled to the brim with grass.
Wayne, accompanied by Vizi, arrived at Pope Ivan’s office.
Before closing the door, Pope Ivan stood with hands in pockets, oblivious to the concept of adversaries.
Once the door was closed, Pope Ivan appeared submissive and stood like a lackey.
Wayne took his seat behind the large desk: "Ivan, there’s no need for such formality. This is Knight Vizi. The Goddess has left, and now you are the head of The Church."
"The Goddess is always in my heart," Ivan replied without revealing a drop of emotion.
Mature!
Wayne inwardly nodded, stood up and left the desk free.
Anyhow, the man was his father-in-law, and he held a great liking for Anastasia, his opinion of Ivan far superior to that of Austin.
If Austin had even a fraction of Ivan’s decency, Wayne wouldn’t have to spread rumors and wait to see the world’s heavy artillery.
It was all Austin’s fault!
Idinis left with unclear intentions. Wayne guessed she might take her corrupted thoughts back to the Divine Nation for research.
Wayne wasn’t as optimistic about his own corruptive abilities as before. The Dark Goddess’s mind had been corrupted but continued to act unimpeded. Creatures from the Inverted World could ignore the corruption altogether, defeating their foes in a rout.
The world was vast, filled with strong beings; one mustn’t get complacent from defeating a few Devils, thinking they are invincible.
Even if one truly became invincible under the heavens, there would still be foes from above.
The path of evolution is long; one can be proud but not Prideful. The Seven Deadly Sins are to be avoided!
Ivan didn’t sit, choosing to stand like a lackey, and Wayne didn’t insist: "Before the Goddess left, she arranged for you to still be in charge of the major affairs within The Church. Don’t start opening doors of convenience for certain individuals due to their relationship to you. Stick to principles; if it’s a no, it’s a no."
Ivan dared not object, nodded in agreement, inquired about when to visit the storeroom, and subtly hinted at the dry climate, advising caution with fire.
"There’s no rush for that. There are two matters I need you to arrange."
Wayne continued, "Firstly, the Dark Church should support the Naturalism Church. You refused last time, reasoning with principles, and I had no choice but to bring the Goddess here to warn you..."
"I’m only visiting for ten days, and three or four days have already passed. Arrange for the Holy Maiden to return the visit and for the envoy to The Naturalism Church, to sign a non-aggression pact. It might not be necessarily effective, but at the very least, it could keep the people below in line."
"The second matter is to investigate the followers of the Great Sage. Have you heard of the belief in the God of Storm and Thunder? It’s been gaining traction lately, representing a malevolent force behind it. The Goddess is quite displeased, and the Dark Church needs to quickly distance itself from it."
Ivan glanced over at Dark Knight Vizi, the Goddess’s knight and bodyguard, who was just as obedient to Wayne’s commands, protecting during the day and night, with the mastermind behind her being obvious.
Though the Goddess had not explicitly said so, but with both the Holy Maiden and the Knight given to Wayne, evidently The Church would...
"I will arrange it as promptly as possible, and at that time, let the Holy Maiden accompany you back to the Naturalism Church Headquarters."
"That’s settled then."
Wayne nodded and followed Ivan to the treasure vault of the Dark Church.

March 26.
Austria, Wynne.
The Dark Church Delegation arrived at the Naturalism Church Headquarters, led by the Dark Saintess Anastasia. The Naturalism Church extended the highest standards of welcome, sending their own Holy Maiden Dusa.
The personal visit of the Holy Maiden from the Dark Church caused a huge sensation at the Naturalism Church Headquarters.
Saina, with or without intentions of her own, championed Wayne as the hero of the entire affair.
Although the Naturalism and Dark Churches were not mortal enemies, due to their allies being the Sun and Moonlight Churches, their attitudes toward the Dark had always been unmistakably cold, at most remaining mere acquaintances, with friendship being out of the question.
Likewise, the Dark Church had always maintained a high and cold posture towards the Naturalism Church, with little interaction between them.
Wayne managed to break the ice between the two in just ten days and even brought the Dark Saintess for a visit, enduring untold difficulties and suffering. Anyone with a bit of sense couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow for him.
