Chapter 1098: Chapter 386: The Weather is Dry; Beware of Fire Sources

Card techniques?

You mean gambling, right?

Vizi’s eyes flashed with a white-haired figure, and she slightly frowned, "Boss, gambling is not right."

This statement is sound, everyone knows that oaths and gambling are utterly incompatible.

Wayne inwardly agreed, but kept his expression neutral, "Makes sense, go on."

Seeing Wayne’s agreement, Vizi felt encouraged and continued, "Nine out of ten gamblers lose, those associated with gambling never end well. Once addicted, it breeds wishful thinking and a vindictive mentality, warping one’s character..."

"From a Mage’s perspective, gambling wastes a lot of time and money. Mages obsessed with it not only ruin their own futures but also destroy their relationships by borrowing money everywhere. If one is in a high position, the negative impact caused is unimaginably dreadful."

She, usually reticent, had a lot to say today, all expressing her aversion to gambling.

"Vizi, you couldn’t be more right, I think so too," Wayne said, patting her shoulder and lifting her off the ground.

"It is an honor to have your agreement, sir."

"But I like playing cards."

"..."

Vizi’s eyelid twitched, thinking of a blasphemous comparison; she felt that certain individuals were a perfect match for each other in disturbing one’s state of mind.

"Aren’t you going to speak? Have you turned mute?"

"Actually, actually..."

Vizi bowed her head, guiltily claiming, "Playing cards has many benefits, it exercises the mind’s logical abilities, enhances brain vitality, and allows Mages to unwind from strenuous work and practice, maintaining stable thoughts and a pleasant body and mind."

"Go on."

"Playing cards can also expand one’s social circle, enrich life experiences, and garner more opportunities and knowledge, which is particularly important for Mages."

"Nice, you don’t talk much, I thought you were an old Knight stuck in his ways, but you actually get it," Wayne patted Vizi’s shoulder in approval.

Vizi remained silent, head bowed; she was just a Knight, whatever the boss said was the rule.

"Seeing how obedient you are, from now on, follow me. Start with a three-month probation period, and if you perform well, move on to the second round of probation."

Wayne couldn’t fathom the Dark Goddess’s motives, deciding to keep the person and see how things unfold. He would deal with situations as they arise; the Goddess is no pushover, and he is no saint – he must not lose in demeanor.

It certainly isn’t about the white-haired figure flashing before him, seeking to amuse himself.

If nothing else, the former Dark Knight Commander was not bad to look at, just enjoying the sight is good too.

Especially since Vizi, adhering to her principled Knight spirit, reluctantly compromised her principles to cater to her boss for job security, giving Wayne a thrill akin to leading a decent family astray.

He truly couldn’t lead a decent family astray, so he settled for having Vizi do it instead.

The fault wasn’t his; everyone saw it was the Dark Goddess who pushed the Knight into the pit of fire.

"Eh, is that woman using me to train her Knight?"

That night, the Holy Maiden Hall was filled with the constant sound of snaps.

Those in the know understood they were playing cards.

Vizi’s card skills were abysmal, lacking the God-chosen Knight’s prowess at the card table. Considering the presence of two bosses, it was reasonable that she kept losing in round after round.

After the card game, Wayne and Anastasia hurried off, presumably to discuss important matters.

Idinis, arms crossed, looked at Vizi with a smile, "You have lost to me thirty-six games in total. According to our bet, you’re to accompany Wayne for three hundred and sixty years. Work hard; both he and I will not mistreat you."

"Your orders are my command!"

Vizi, expressionless, could not fathom the Dark Goddess’s thoughts.

"What are you standing around for? Your body has been returned to you. I can’t be too vigorous in this body right now, so go give Anastasia a boost. Lend her a hand; she’s a fine Holy Maiden, I’m quite fond of her, don’t let her suffer too much."

Goddess, do you hear yourself talking!

Vizi struggled to maintain her composure and ultimately could not hold back. Following the Divine Decree and the principle of honoring her gambling debts, she walked alone towards the Holy Maiden’s chambers.

The former chambers of the Holy Maiden had been temporarily converted into a guesthouse due to limited rooms at the Dark Church Headquarters, hosting The Church’s Envoy Wayne.

As Idinis watched Vizi’s brave sacrifice, a smirk formed on her lips, murmuring, "Of course, you are also interesting, but unfortunately, I have more important matters to attend to and won’t be able to train you personally during this time."

The vortex of Darkness widened, and Idinis touched the ground with the tip of her foot, falling backward into Darkness along with the reclining chair.

Behind the vortex was the Dark Divine Kingdom.

That day, a part of the Dark Goddess’s corrupted thoughts returned to her loyal Divine Nation.

Now about the guesthouse.

Well, there’s not much to say. Wayne pulled out a copy of The Adventures of Tintin, translating idioms from the book for Anastasia, who was quick to comprehend and apply them skillfully, perfectly encapsulating the essence of the idioms.

Words left unsaid, dallying and dalliance, unable to stop even if one wants to, haste makes waste...

And perhaps some concocted four-word idiom involving a frightened lusting woman – hardly a proper idiom, so let’s not dwell on that here.

Upon reaching the guesthouse door and hearing the card-playing and heated low whispers inside, Vizi hesitated with her hand in mid-air, unsure whether to knock or leave it.

Thinking of the Dark Goddess’s command, she took a deep breath and softly knocked on the door: "Boss, may I come i..."

"Get out."

"Boss..."

"Get out!"

"..."

Weighing up the pros and cons, Vizi decided she must heed both the Goddess’s words and the God’s words, obeying commands from both parties by standing guard at the door.

To prevent any rumors about the Holy Maiden snatching a ’pretty boy,’ she considerately erected a Soundproof Barrier.
