Chapter 1078: Chapter 381: His Holiness the Pope, We Have a Traitor Among Us
The howling wind raged, thunder interwoven, as catastrophe descended upon the newly birthed Divine Realm.
Amidst the boundless clash of thunder and hurricane, two residual shadows stretched into streaks, their impacts erupting into earth-shattering roars, as ferocious Energy Vortices ravaged downwards, first from east to west, then from south to north, wreaking havoc across the Divine Realm.
The earth was torn apart with gaping fissures, mountains collapsed under the force, boulders rolled, and dust billowed.
In the distance, the ocean surged into curtains, as enormous tsunamis accompanied by hurricanes struck again and again...
On the edge of the battlefield, Wayne took a deep breath.
Sarosia had opponents to fight; he had profits to make. Once the task was accomplished, they would split the spoils seventy-thirty—he would stand and take seventy percent, while Sarosia knelt and offered the remaining thirty percent as a sacrifice to her faith, ensuring a bright future for both.
"What a boring battle, barbaric, utterly devoid of aesthetic sense. Indeed befitting of the most primal original gods; their mastery over the Laws still lingers at a primitive level," Idinis commented as she inspected her nails.
"You can’t say that. There’s a beauty in brute strength; the visual impact is quite spectacular."
Wayne testified for Sarosia: "You see, she has the advantage in both weapons and the Essence of Life. If she strikes unexpectedly, she’s bound to defeat Set."
"And what about Set?"
"No weaknesses observed so far. He’s been slumbering too long; his thoughts are sluggish, he won’t last much longer."
Wayne narrowed his eyes, discerning Set’s condition as the battle escalated.
Without reincarnating into a human body, he constructed an elemental body of Storm and Thunder with his mind, which deviated from Sarosia’s prior investigations.
It’s not excluded that Set’s strength has surged greatly; a regular human body couldn’t keep up with his mind, hence he discarded it.
The likelihood was low; Hexuno reincarnated into Mona and was tormented by both Mona and Wayne, never contemplating leaving the positive energy-filled shell.
It wasn’t about desire but capability; that was the most suitable body for her. She was Mona, and Mona was her.
Only thoroughly merged, inseparable at their core.
Similarly, there was no reason for Set to abandon his reincarnated shell, unless his reincarnation took another form—possession.
Wayne thought of the Great Sage; given Set’s demonstrated combat prowess, the Great Sage was clearly the one being exploited. Once Set returned in full force, the Great Sage would be forced to vacate the position, yielding his body to Set.
Then, Set, masquerading as the Great Sage, would issue false Subsidiary God’s Divine Decrees, taking over the Dark Church and turning it into the Hall of Storms and Thunders, stealing the Mortal World’s followers of the Dark Goddess.
The Dark Goddess sent Vizi to stop him, only to be annihilated in seconds by Set, observing from the dark while waiting for the next Dark Knight to awaken.
The train of thought was correct, but...
It didn’t fit the Dark Goddess’s character.
Wayne glanced at the pretentious Idinis seated beside him. The Director of Education was shifty, her exact personality unclear to him; all he knew was that it was highly contradictory.
Of all the goddesses, the Dark Goddess cared the most for the safety of the God-chosen Continent.
She ordered Anastasia to convey the Divine Decrees and execute them, stationed a troop of Dark Elves on the Icebound Continent, temporarily had Anastasia stand in before the Dark Knight awoke, until she could no longer hold out, prompting Austin to mature swiftly.
Wayne always felt that with such an outstanding Holy Maiden, Pope, and Disciples, the Dark Goddess set an example; her subordinates were influenced by faith.
Turns out, this lady was nothing but an enchantress.
With the Goddess so dark, there was no reason for her followers to be white-washed, the most probable scenario being that the Dark Goddess had a dual nature.
The benevolent Holy Maiden and the malevolent Knight, bringing light and goodness to the followers, and destructive evil to the Heretics—only when combined, they form a true god.
Wayne shook his head. This was what The Church’s scriptures stated, wishful thinking by the believers, not to be misled by such fallacious knowledge.
The Dark Goddess was simply a wicked woman; she didn’t bring any benevolent light to her followers, only pleasure and mischief.
The whitewash of the Dark Church wasn’t due to her influence but because they continuously strove to improve, free from lowly pleasures.
But then again, without the Dark Goddess’s permission, the Church couldn’t have been whitewashed...
Wayne fell into logical contradiction, unable to justify his reasoning, and suddenly snapped awake—not good, he had grown curious about the Dark Goddess.
He shook his head to dispel all wild thoughts, focusing his mind on Sarosia, entering her body, and crammed the copied Information Laws into her, casually blessing her with a new buff.
Regardless of the Dark Goddess’s intentions, the Dark Church must remain stable, and the Laws of Storm and Thunder must belong to Sarosia completely.
The battle had lasted far too long; it was time to end it.
"Sarosia, feel this power; you have long surpassed Set. He is no match for you."
Sarosia heard Wayne’s voice in her ear, as an indescribable and bizarre energy flowed into her body. Stunned, she was struck through the air by Set with the Blade of the Hunt, crashing to the ground and creating a huge pit.
Foam splattered, her limbs twisted as she lay on her back at the bottom of the pit, unable to stand up for a while.
"Sarosia, you’re just as frail as you were back then," Set looked down from on high, uttering scornful words.
At that moment, Sarosia’s body levitated, her contorted form restored to normal, and a vertical slit tore open on her faceless visage, revealing an eye.
Buzzzzz———
A deluge of low murmurs erupted in an instant, their tangled whispers binding Set’s thoughts into rigidity.
"The Void..."
"Heaven..."
Copious incomprehensible information filled Set’s mind, halting his cognition; he stood immobilized, forced to watch as Sarosia advanced with her weapon raised.
