Chapter 1031: Chapter 369 Humanity Has Its Limits, Mechanical Becoming a God_2

"So, could you help me get a job recommendation?" Nelson fidgeted a bit and, putting aside the messy private life, Wayne might actually be a good boss.

From an employee’s perspective, what does it matter if the boss’s private life is messy or not?

If anything, it provides employees with some entertainment to break up the monotony of work.

That’s a good thing!

Nelson comforted himself and looked forward to Regina with eagerness, hoping his sister would help with the referral. Seeing her frowning and not speaking, he hurriedly said, "Regina, you know me, I’m quite capable."

"It’s not about whether you can do it or not..."

Regina shook her head. To work for Wayne, one must be full of resentment and die once; the truth could not be revealed. Seeing her sister’s hopeful face, she could only say, "When the boss comes back, I’ll put in a good word for you, but if he refuses, there’s nothing I can do."

"From what you’re saying, he’s definitely going to refuse?"

"Unless something unexpected happens..."

"I can help you with missions, and performing well could earn me extra points."

"That’s not possible. If you dare to walk out that door, I won’t acknowledge you as my sister anymore!"

Wynne was once the capital of Austria before it was incorporated into Prussia. No longer priding itself as the capital city, surrounded on three sides by dense forests and crisscrossed by rivers, it is a romantic city covered by greenery and music.

Tonight, Wayne’s target was far from the city center. Walking along the Cyno River and into the sparsely populated depths of the forest, the night sky was dotted with stars, and the breeze carried the strains of waltzes through the air.

The city had a rich musical atmosphere. If a certain someone hadn’t learned to paint on his own but instead had studied music, maybe...

The pressure would have been greater, and he still would have flunked.

Painting wasn’t going to save Prussia!

Wayne moved fast through the forest under the night sky, with Odilia following close behind, her strength increasing rapidly as Wayne made progress, frightening even herself.

After a quick ten-minute trek, Wayne, like a human magnet radar, climbed hills and crossed ravines to reach a hidden mountain path.

He stepped on the trail and assessed, "A decent load-bearing capacity; it’s a waste to use this for civilian purposes, especially in such a secluded hollow..."

Correct place found!

A major discovery at the first target, Wayne silently praised his luck and signaled to Odilia that they would now communicate telepathically.

The two moved on and soon arrived at a military restricted area. A few beams of searchlights swept the shadows of the surrounding forest, and several teams of armed soldiers manned checkpoints.

Wayne pondered whether to sneak in. It wasn’t the time to draw the net, and it would be ill-advised to startle the snake.

But having come all the way there, there was no reason to be scared off by a few Prussian soldiers—after all, he wasn’t Frankish and could withstand being shouted at in the Prussian language.

"Let’s go and take a look."

Wayne avoided the searchlights and headed towards the restricted area. With his mental ability, the whole zone, including the underground fortress, was within his range of perception, enough to twist these soldiers’ perception and go unnoticed even when spotted.

Just in case, Wayne didn’t push his luck and avoided as much as he should, perfectly sneaking past the checkpoints and only clouding the guards’ perception at the entrance to the underground fortress.

The entrance was obscured by a heavy iron door, with passageways twisting and turning like a great labyrinth.

Upon entering, Wayne felt a chilling cold air hit his face, accompanied by the booming noise of massive machinery, seemingly working nonstop to dig something in the night.

Before crossing over, Wayne heard numerous descriptions of Prussian high-tech black magic, as well as Hell Studies and Alchemy—dark and mysterious.

The details were convincing. If it weren’t for the even more outrageous Stars-and-Stripes Captain of the Allies, it would be hard to say who would win the war.

Getting sidetracked.

Wayne spread out his mental power to crawl along the walls of the underground fortress and, in his mind, he constructed a complicated three-dimensional map of the terrain.

A huge underground base harboring several large-scale research labs, and some of the research caught Wayne’s interest.

"Void Lifeforms..."

"Hell Container..."

"Large numbers of Magical Creature Troops; Prussia really does have a lot of black tech..."

Wayne opened his eyes, rubbed his hands together, and walked towards the first laboratory with Odilia in tow, the research data useful for his evolution, the underground fortress a treasure trove of knowledge for him.

The trip wasn’t in vain; Prussia’s wool could be sheared for a long time.

The laboratories weren’t running double shifts, nor did they endorse working overtime—researchers are precious assets everywhere, and as it neared midnight, although the lights in the labs were still on, the majority of the research staff had retired to their quarters to rest.

Wayne and Odilia, dressed in white lab coats they found on the wall, relying on his strong mental ability... excellent elocution, and a friendly smile, convinced a few researchers with shiny foreheads that he was new here.

With a local guide, borrowing data became much easier for Wayne.

He quickly memorized the experimental data and found a classified directory in the secret archives, marking the locations of several other Prussian research bases.

The directory alone made Wayne’s trip worthwhile.

Odilia helped organize the information, but the shocking research data unnerved her, particularly the mass-produced Void Soldiers and their audacious design concepts, which left her thoroughly shaken.

As everyone knows, the most critical and important data wouldn’t be in the lab but in the safe of the base commander’s office.

Content with his haul and feeling even stronger desire, Wayne, now alone, went to the office. He expertly picked locks and opened numerous doors to obtain the essential information he wanted.

After reviewing it, even Wayne couldn’t help but get goosebumps.
